  1. Capt. Hooks / Shorty's has some awesome Mustad and EC treble hooks on closeout. From Shorty's they are $50/1000. I look at the strength of the hook first, I prefer a round bend if I can get it in a strong hook.
  2. I wouldn't trust Wolf split rings for fishing tackle. Had way too many failures with them. I buy my split rings from Worth. Around $20/1000.
  3. With the Bismuth you wouldn't need or want a Lee pot. Just some hot water.
  4. If you're not careful using a fluid bed you can mess with the spin.
  5. The best way I've found is with an electrostatic gun. Second best way is a powder spray gun. That being said I've dipped a lot of them in my fluid bed with good results.
  6. I've been having some pretty bad back problems the past month or so. It's really made it hard to get things done. The other day I was out in the garage doing some casting. My wife came out to check on me and noticed I only had two bricks of lead left sitting on the floor. She told me I needed more lead. I agreed and told her when I was feeling up to I'd head to the scrap yard and get some. This morning I was really hurting and was just about ready to go out to the garage and paint some lures she said "let me get ready and we'll go pick up some lead for ya". Well she got ready and we headed to the scrap yard. We pulled 134 lbs out of the barrel. There was one huge piece that must have been a weight on some sort of equipment as it two holes through it for mounting. She pulled it all out of the barrel. Loaded it in the car, unloaded it at home, helped me set up the melting equipment and helped me get it all melted down. Then when it had cooled she helped me move it all into the garage and get it stacked. She takes pretty good care of my broken body. I didn't get anything painted but I've got lead for a month or so. This hobby helps me with the pain. I've got a really good chair in the garage and a bench I built. I can go out there and do things and it helps keep my mind off the chronic pain I deal with. She also told me to go ahead and order the wire I need to keep casting slabs. Couple of months ago she got me a new airbrush. Monday we went to Hobby Lobby and we found they had marked a bunch of Createx Wicked paint down 50%. She let me load the basket.
  7. I love the outbarb Barbarian treble hooks. Just can't afford them. Not when I can get Mustad/Eagle Claw for $0.05 a hook.
  8. Depending on what colors you need you can find paint much cheaper. $20 a pound for black and white paint is more than double what you can get it for.
  9. I'm in need of some wire forms but having some difficulty figuring out which forms from O'Hare would work in place of the Do-It CC-14, 12, 34, 100, 150 and 200. Anyone have any help they can offer? Thank.
  10. Largest I'm aware of is a Mustad 32786 which goes to 8/0 in black. The Mustad 91715 goes to 9/0 but it's a tinned hook. What mold are you planning on using?
  11. I get the 3D eyes from China. They have some adhesive but it doesn't hold very well on the super slick finish the powder paint gives. I learned the hard way to glue them on. The saving grace is that they are not that much more than flat eyes.
  12. The flat eyes are a LOT easier to apply too. I have to super glue these eyes on. Takes quite a bit longer.
  13. I really like this style of bait. Can't wait to get these on the water. Not sure which eye I like best. Over 150 baits in this box. Over 10 lbs. I call it the Dream Box because I know lots of guys who dream of getting their hands on this box.
  14. 3/4, 1, 1.5 ounce. No smell at all to that sealer.
  15. Over 100 more drying in the rack today.
  16. I use Createx Wicked Color paint. The skinny slab is the Do-It Minnow mold. I use Seal-Krete Clear Gloss sealer. Home Depot or Lowe's carry it here. I'd like to try AC-1315 sealer but at almost $50 a gallon delivered I'll pass.
  17. Yep. Lead bodies. Powder paint as the base. Then the rest with an airbrush. Dip them in concrete sealer and you're done.
  18. I think I'm starting to get the hang of pouring and painting slabs! If you see white and chartreuse in the same compartment it's because those are white on one side and chartreuse on the other.
  19. I doubt you're going to have to flux that mix.
  20. The lakes I fish during the winter here in Texas are covered in Loons. It's not uncommon to have 20-30 around the boat at a time.
