  1. Smalljaw, I'm with you on this one. Heck, I wouldn't have one in my tacklbox cause I know what it cost to make a quality spinnerbait. The components aren't cheap and most of us buy in a lot smaller quantity than you. I don't sell, but I wouldn't warm my pot up for that cause I'd definitely be losing money at that price. That said, if you ever fish one of our quality spinnerbaits, you'll never fish Mr. Cheapo again. It doesn't offend me that someone is trying to sell cheap spinnerbaits though. If I was a mod, I might have a problem with someone with a couple posts coming on here and pushing some though. To the OP, are you sure you're not making those spinnerbaits? Looks fishy to me. Just sayin.....
  2. BW, Let me ask you another question. Have you ever tried say a Rage Craw with the claws that give a lot of action? I actually prefer that type of bait over just the pincher that has very little action.
  3. Backwater, Here is a bait that looks real similar. Pretty cheap mold from BT. What do you think? http://a248.e.akamai.net/origin-cdn.volusion.com/r9tyo.ruqm9/v/vspfiles/photos/4craw-2.jpg
  4. No kidding. I think if you shopped around you probably could find them a bit less expensive. Also, that is why many of us got into the hobby of pouring, injecting, and building our own stuff. Seems our salaries aren't keeping up with inflation.
  5. I have a pal that fishes a gene larew craw all the time as a jig trailer. Looks very similar. Here's a link with photo. http://www.genelarew.com/4-salt-craw.htm
  6. I was thinking the same thing Smalljaw. Heck, it's hard to find a Sampo for less than a buck nowadays...
  7. Use a fluid bed. Lots of how to tutorials on how to make one. Very easy, just do a search on here. I use a heat gun to heat my jigs but some use a propane torch. For me the heat gun is best and heat is more controllable. After you powder coat tap the jig on the side of your fluid bed to remove excess powder paint. If your eye ends up plugged or with too much powder paint, now is the time to remove it. The paint is brittle now and will remove easy. After you bake it per the powder paint manufacturers instructions, it becomes very tough and durable and is very hard to remove. Hope this helps.
  8. I don't know if the dual injector, whether BJunky or BT's is really budget user or not. As a hobbiest and not someone that sells baits, it's just the ticket to make some really nice laminates with the supplies and equipment most guys already have. If you aren't selling, how many baits can you use or give away? I think it's just the ticket for the hobbiest like myself. Produces more than I can use. Anything more high volume for me would be a waste of resources.
  9. Yep, to each his own. If I wanted to save money, I would sell my bass boat, all my equipment, and never would have gotten into this bait making stuff. I throw the little green rascals back in the drink most times anyway. We aren't saving money. We're having fun doing it though. Can we agree to disagree?
  10. Chris, I agree with you but sometimes it's the challenge. If you shop at the right place you can buy tabs at half that price. Why pay retail when you don't have to? Just sayin.
  11. I believe it is a medical grade silicon with just a few suppliers. If my memory serves me GE being one of them.
  12. Steve, can I come fish with you? And I won't drink the last beer!
  13. The Baitjunky twinjector does make it look easy. I really like the blending block with the holder on it. For me that's the challenging part and an improvement over the BassTackle twinjector. The BassTackle blending block doesn't have the holder so when you shoot you have to hold the injector and the blending block together. Then we have to transfer it all from mold to mold to shoot the baits. That's the challenge I have with BassTackles equipment. Nice design Leonard!
  14. I have to agree this is not a " how to business" site. It's a tackle making how to site where we can share info and ideas with like- minded folks. Mostly good people willing to share. That being said, what works for me may not work for the next guy as our production and expectations may be quite different. There seems to be a tolerance and room for all in tackle making and on TU also.
  15. The bond with the twinjector is probably better, however, using the twin injector has some challenges in itself. Running two Pyrex cups is a PITA. Working with two presto pots is a lot better but then the blending block can be a challenge too. It's nothing you can't overcome, especially with an extra set of hands, but shooting one color at a time is easier for me. YMMV...
  16. I don't use auto stirrers as I am not doing production work. Just before I shoot my molds, I stir. As for heating the injectors, I put them back in the presto pots and have the HRM holder adjusted to let the twin injector rest in the hot plastisol in the presto pots. Right before I shoot again I pull and purge plastisol in the injector to purge any air and to fully heat them. Works good, lasts along time.
  17. I have the High Rock system w/o the heaters. I use the presto pots with just the twinjector holder and it works well. That being said, this is injection molding and it will be an expense to get into it. If you hand pour, IPT's suggestion sounds great. A lot of injection molds use a plate for two color molds. Shoot the first color with the plate, take plate out and shoot second color. Same as the can, just hand pour method.
  18. Well, I can't say what value added service Barlows, Jann's, LPO, FS.com, or the others give you but In my experience, I can tell you what Rat Trap can give you. If you make and sell your creations, RT can increase your profits. If you make baits for yourself and friends, Bubba can save you money. Some of his customers are the ones you mentioned....
  19. Lure Parts Online. If you guys need good silicone skirts at wholesale prices, you need to give Rat Trap Bait Company a call. Rat Trap Bait Company Bubba Robinson PO Box 845 106 Adams Street Auburndale FL 33823 Ph. 863-967-2148 Just give Bubba a call and ask him to email you his product and color list. A class act and super nice and helpful. No website though.
  20. Number of cavities, at least 5 in the larger volume molds. Ten for the smaller volume molds.
  21. Psilvers, one thing I would like to add is if you pour outside at an apartment complex in any common area where kids frequent, you are likely to draw a crowd. This would make me very nervous and I would use extreme caution. Pouring hot lead and children wouldn't mix well in my opinion. A child could easily touch when another had you distracted, trip on your extension cord etc. I would find a quiet personal space to do it.
  22. I have processed tire weights outside in the back yard. I feel that was much safer than my shop and the enclosure of that and the fire hazard. If I had the choice of my kitchen or outside, I would wait for a nice, no precip day and pour outside.
  23. No sir, and I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Just friendly conversation. I think Shawn Collins makes great molds.
  24. What's really funny is you can't snag one ( I catch plenty and don't snag) but the gill netters catch millions of pounds per year in Cook Inlet using miles and miles of gill nets :-(
