  1. Just got this info yesterday. I understand laminate bags are what you want. Here is a link to a supplier that one of the resalers uses. I have not used these yet but plan on ordering within the next few days. http://www.clearbags.com/bags/clear-bags/laminated?p=1 Hope this helps and would like to offer better info than "I heard about these guys".
  2. To topcoat a spoon for protective finish after color, most of us use a good two part epoxy. Devcon two ton (d2t) is what a lot of us use.
  3. Frank, this thread started as a swim jig trailer. How else have you fished this bait?....Bill.....
  4. That's what I thought. Is it that good? Probably a lot of milling for the rings.
  5. Signed the petition. Hope it helps.
  6. Here's what I did: As Smalljaw suggested, I went to Capt. Hook and ordered the Eagle Claw Black Platinum hook in #6, 1/0, and 2/0. 100 of each. The # 6 and 1/0 hook points look the same and I would say they are the EC hooks. However, the 2/0 looks just like a Gamakatsu hook. I would think if they didn't have the EC they would just back order them as opposed to substituting a much more expensive hook. They will all work nicely and my son has already poured up a bunch and caught a big spot yesterday with one.
  7. Hi Mr. Nsmith, I too have searched and tried different things to cut costs on spoons for bass fishing. You mentioned Lake Fork flutter spoons and this is what the spoon manufacturers call their casting spoons. The most cost effective alternative I think is to buy the spoon blank and put the split ring and treble hook on yourself. If you want special finish and feathers, that isn't all that difficult with add on tape, Devcon 2 ton, and Mylar on hook. Here's a link to the type spoon they use down on Lake Fork. http://lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/Casting-Spoons/Fingerling-Casting-Spoons.html By the way, the bass and spoon on my avatar are both from Lake Fork.
  8. Thanks Smalljaw and Cadman. I knew you fellows would know what I needed. I have felt the same about Mustad hooks but haven't used the Chinese made version yet and maybe I won't. I think I will try the EC lazer sharp 570. Tight lines...APD.
  9. Hey Guys, My son wanted to order Do-It mold CRJ-6-WBA which calls for a Mustad 32756 or Eagle Claw 570. The problem is I would prefer a black nickel Mustad hook versus the bronze. I have searched for a 32756bln and seems Mustad doesn't make one. My question is does Mustad make a black nickel hook that is a sub for the 32756. Thanks.
  10. Gonefishn, I ordered a 5 or 6 foot piece from McMaster Carr. Cut my own and worked out great.
  11. Chris, I use a heat gun to heat up my molds before I begin the pour too. I have also found you have to pour pretty fast to get complete pours in my do-it bass jig molds. I have found I can get the molds much hotter with the heat gun than I ever could with just making incomplete pours til it got hot. Much less frustrating too. Message also sent for your request to pot question. Good luck.
  12. Hey Bob, I have bought from these guys before. Casting spoons though. They do have trolling spoons though. Not sure if it's what you are looking for. http://lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/Spoon-Blanks/.
  13. Wow, you jumped in feet first. That's a lot of colors. Cadman can tell you how to put those colors on in layers. He's the best. Lots of good info in the lead safety and flux threads that are pinned at the top. Heck, all these threads have some useful info. Welcome aboard and good luck.
  14. Heck, I thought you were just getting into jig making. It looks like you've been at it awhile judging from your paint supplies.
  15. Looks really nice Saskat! Have you made your mind up how to paint your heads? I really like the powder paint. As with anything there is a bit of a learning curve to it but it's all fun. I have tried some of the other paints and methods and think powder is the way to go. One great reason for me is just the shelf life alone for the powder. Keep it dry and I guess it will last forever. Not so much for the other stuff. Being just a hobbyist, making my own jigs and giving a few away, it is hard to use the liquids up before you have to throw them out. Hope those jigs catch a lot of fish!
  16. Jigs, Can't really help much with your first two questions, but the old timer who got me into making my own baits put a screw in his pour hole and quit using it. He said it dripped and was just too much trouble to mess with. He had a small ladle with a pour hole. I found one at an outdoor store in their reloading supplies. Works nice and allows you to make precise pours. The other thing is you need to heat your mold up. Some guys lay it touching their pot and as the pot is heating, the mold will also get hot. I use my heat gun and put it in front of it and get it good and hot that way. Makes a BIG difference in your ability to get a good pour. Also, I think your lead mix makes a difference too. If you are using straight wheel weights you may want to add some pure lead. I think some guys use 70%ww to 30% lead. I use 50/50 but have a good supply of lead. Hopefully some of the more astute guys with lots of experience will chime in. Good luck.
  17. Thanks Chris, There is a scrapyard close by that I will check. Just wondered what the going rate for 5 gallon bucket of WW's. I melted and fluxed 5 gallons this past weekend and got 100 pounds of melted WW material out of the 5 gallons. If you can get 5 gallons for 50 bucks, I think that's a pretty good buy. You have the labor and gas to clean it up though. By the way, you live in a special place. Gotta love the Kenai. Sorry for the double post. Still trying to figure this stuff out.
  18. First of all, I would like to thank all the great posters for their wealth of knowledge and willingness to share on this sight. Have learned a great deal in just reading through the archives that would have taken me years of trial and error, if I would have learned it at all. Thanks again. I have a question about the purchase of wheel weights. I looked today and lead is selling around a buck a pound. So what is a fair price for a five gallon bucket of wheel weights. I haven't ran into anyone willing to give them away yet. Seems we have guys coming around to the local tire shops paying for their WW.
  19. Welcome Faster, I am new here too. It's hard to believe guys will pay 13.00 for a spinnerbait. It's no wonder this sight is so successful with prices like that.
  20. Those are great looking baits. If I were a Wahoo, my mouth would be on one.
  21. Thundercat, You ordered the right hook. Mustad is hard to beat in that 32786BN hook. I use those exclusively as a bass jig hook in several 60 degree molds. Very sharp and strong!!!
  22. If you just want a little bit, Jann's, Barlows, Tackle online etc. are probably your best shot. I have ordered skirt material from them before and have been satisfied.
