  1. I see a new how tutorial coming on for a metal lip design.
  2. Just out of curiousty how does that bait act without the hooks on it? And also if you needed to make it more buoyant you could always fill a cavity with a quick dot of spray foam... With all the reading I've been doing on here about how things float and adding weight and so fourth I've come to the conclusion sometimes weight may not be the answer... but something that makes it float better... I'd be curious to see how a lure like that would turn out made out of PVC(azek) Just my thoughts
  3. I got some .040 stainless its a little bit hard to bend not bad but I can bend up a spinner harness like the one you have pictured pretty easily... I wanted some bigger heavier ones for some hungry pike on opener for a certain lake... my only thoughts on the matter are instead of twisting the top double loop it instead its easier to do.
  4. So your trying to make a lipless bait that sinks or at least goes down... a little bit? What size bait would be the other question. Bass bait, northern/musky bait... ? My suggestion would be for a starter lure would be to look at Diemi's banana type lures... or Lazy Ike style... it has a built in lip persay but it doesn't require a lexon lip.
  5. question for your FAQ if you want to thin Devcon how much acetone should you use?
  6. So I decided to add one more thing to this string... my fiancee gave me an interesting idea... as far as making tinsel skirts goes... anyone ever used tinsel hair extensions? Not the ones made from real hair but the fake ones... you can get them wet and wash them and the whole nine yards and a big bag of them is farely cheap... I thought it was an interesting idea was just asking around to see if anyone had tried this before...
  7. I was asking a friend of mine that does some machining to see if we could come up with a way to make a coning bit of some sort kind like an over grown pencil sharpener... thats actually what I used to put end on dowels I used to make sunfish poppers with the kids... worked great... they painted them and I just added the eyes and the hooks after dipping them about three times in clear coat ;-) just need to find something a little bigger to make those noses on those jerk baits... good news is another neighbor just gave me some more dowels... these are oak 1 1/2 inch good musky wood lol
  8. I wonder if I can cut those angles with a table saw... and then round the edges
  9. Wow as usual diemai good video I think I watched that one on youtube a little while back just forgot about it... at 3:02 in your video what did you use to make those cuts with?
  10. Riley I like the Jackpot idea that looks like something I could do with hand tools...since I don't have a lathe... Got a link for the woodchopper type your talking about?
  11. So I have a bunch of scrap dowels laying around from pine to oak and maybe even a couple of aspen ones(popal) I've made some small sunfish poppers out of the little ones but I have some nice chunks of 1 1/2" and larger to 2" that I was thinking about making into musky baits I've used them a few times to try and come up with some stuff along time ago and have pretty much been modifiing them to get them to work correctly... heck I even made a lure out of a broken hickory broom handle just for the fun of it... hard stuff to shape thou... any thoughts on the woods... or easy shapes I dont have alot of tools to work with but I'm just shooting for basic jerk baits.
  12. They only really good advantage I can see from PVC over wood for musky any way would be the easiness to repaint it if it was necessary since you don't have to worry about the pvc cracking if the fish takes the paint off or any of that... you can just sand lightly and repaint and recoat.... I was thinking to myself the other day pvc I am guessing still working on my first lures with it as well is going to be easier to glue foiled images to as well I would think since its plastic after all...
  13. Awesome test results the other thing I was going to mention before I forget is there is always the brass cooder key option as well like Suick lures uses on there glider bates... seems to hold up pretty well to anything I've ever seen in person and on shows... and if a lure holds 105lbs and the eye doesn't come out I think you are really good to go... since even a 50lb fish in Water isn't going to exert 105lbs of force I wouldn't think... since both the lure and the fish are in water impact force I am guessing would not be as much.
  14. Ah the other thing I guess I would mention is if you are going fishing somewhere like canada I actually use cheaper hooks like eagle claw because instead of taking the hook out of the fishes mouth and harming the fish we just cut the hook with a side cutter... and actually the cheap hooks hold up rather well never had one straighten out anyway... did have a couple break... didn't loose any fish thou...
  15. weirdest fish story ever about a weird scent there was a guy fishing for Walleyes on Nest Lake in the Spicer Minnesota area and he caught tons of fish (which is weird) using preperation h cream smoothered on his live baits... very odd.
  16. Yeah I use Gamakatsu and VMC never used owner....
  17. Well I would have to say depending on the size of the jerk baits... what your using for screw eyes? also are you going to put recessed washers on the lure as well to help hold those eyes in? Like most of the good quality musky lures in Minnesota have washers on them... you can buy a whole bag of them at menards for cheap just remember to prime and paint them since they are galvanized metal... also are you using screw eyes that you bought or are you making your own? I just ask because you can make much longer eyes your self and if you want them a little beefier just make a double eye then create the twist... and if you want it stronger then that just add a little silver solider to the seem. just my thoughts D
  18. I noticed that the azek stuff that home depot sells has one side of it textured since it is trim board for houses.
  19. Well that I knew lol... I was just wondering since if I was going to build divers... I would cut them in half and make thru wire construction but for certain jerk baits I would just make my own twist wire eyes longer and D2T them in
  20. So what kind of baits for Musky or Pike are you going to make with this pvc board anyway jerk baits or divers?
  21. Berkley fireline or Spiderwire .... its not cheap but well worth what you pay for it... can you have stuff shipped from Amazon.com or Cabela's?
  22. might I suggest trying aluminum arrow shafts
