  1. I guess the question I had is are the Rapalas balsa or plastic... since husky jerks are plastic and some of there other baits are as well just keep an eye on what your sanding... if you get a nice mix I would separate them into two groups wood and plastic since the plastic is much easier to deal with then the wood.
  2. If you were going to make a punch for 1/4" balsa just to get ruff shapes cut out you would almost need to make it like a perforation type punch with 100's of little needle type punches in the shape you want the lure to be in have them all touching each other a extremely thin and only a touch longer then 1/4" and you might be able to stamp out some shapes then...
  3. Thats really interesting Rob... I was thinking about some stuff along micro balloons there is a kids product they sell all over even the dollar store that is made from micro balloons of a sort and I know they float cause the kids have had it... its made to sculpt into shapes of random things I had wondered if a person could shape it into a lure and resin it over with something... and it still float.
  4. Well from the pics I looked up looks like a nice real... my experience with (bait casting reels) as I call them is pretty high I have about 6 of them right now and have had many more since I was a kid... I have a couple of cheaper quantom reels even which work just fine... the first thing I can say is know the weight of the lures you are casting and the more you use it the more you can give a short cast to get an idea of how a lure will cast so you can adjust the break a touch if you need to... the other thing is I pretty much only use Fireline type lines on all of them which when it "bird nests" is much easier to untangle and rarely gets in a knot that I can't get out very quickly. And I generally stick with the medium to the thicker side of the lines that the real is made for... for example most of my casting or pitching setups have around 14lb diameter which with fireline is like 40lb test give or take... rarely have break offs... if your looking for a reel that can cast most weights I would say the one you are looking at would probably do the job rather well just don't forget to match a rod to go with it... the longer they are the better the lighter stuff casts to me anyway. Hope it helps and good luck!
  5. Does Firefox still have IE tab add on for it? I know they did years ago and that helped with some websites... I use chrome only and have zero issues. I know the site pulls up just fine on my linux machine with FF and opera as well so I am not even sure. You could also see if your java and flash need to be updated or are blocked in anyway.
  6. pretty neat seeing the whole process

wow those are nice looking baits
  8. I am gonna blame the clear coat paint on the cloudy part... with muskie lures use etex or d2t and let them dry for at least a full 24hrs two days would be better... especially this time of year with humidity a couple other guys I know up north just use many coats of clear coat however all there lures are wood and are only expected to last a season 2 at most.
  9. LOL I think plastic worms and sunlight against any type of lure is not safe
  10. Im curious as well for that price even the two tubes around me is like $6 and I've found the smaller bottles on line for like $20ish
  11. So here is one of the three rattle trap type baits I got they have very wide heads on them you can't really see that well in the picture if anyone wants a better shot of the head let me know... again painted with brush and bottle acrylics and coated in D2T. And again I made the eyes they are eye sockets under the eyes but I didnt have a punch small enough yet to make the next size down. Thanks for any comments and feedback
  12. So here is one of 8 baits I got from dakotalakesbaits.com I got two of these Jerk 3.5, 3 rattle shads, 2 smaller minnow type baits and one floater walk the dog type I decided to paint two before work since I just got them in the mail this morning. They are both brush painted with bottle type acrylics and coated with D2T I used painters tape to make the stripes and sponged on the black paint after applying the tape. Thanks for any comments and feedback

    Sleek Torpedo

    thats pretty slick looking
  14. Musky's will eat that thing up great looking lure
  15. Here is my one small bit of less experienced advice... I would base the coating your using on the size and quantity of lures you are making... making a couple at a time D2T is perfect in its hardware store side by side two tube dispenser... but if your going for a bunch of lures at once I know the other sources can be had at better prices in bigger quantities... I also know awhile back there were a few guys on here that used auto clear coat as well I'm not sure what ever came of that but I know that the few that used it had good luck... and the only other suggestion I would make is if using D2T from my personal experience having a lure turner is almost a must to get a perfect even finish... just my two cents Either way it sounds like your gonna have a grand little set up for a room when it is all done and said don't forget to show it off to the rest of us
  16. Anyone have any good recommendations for rattle trap type baits I was looking at LPO's and Dakota Lakes Tackle had a couple different versions... looking for the sinking style not the floaters since apparently they are the answer to the walleye question in the rivers around here this time of year and when the flow is strong... I am not picky on exact design just looking to see if anyone has tried any that are out there and there thoughts on the ones you have tried. Thanks in advance D

    topwater time

neat looking lure what is it made from?
  18. Are you using just resin or you using glass mats as well? I am curious of the process
  19. If you don't want a spool of Stainless Steel then just get a one pound box of R308L Stainless Steal TIG Rods comes in various sizes of your choosing from about .9mil to almost 2mil every welding company makes it so I guess brand doesn't really matter just pick a size and shop around til you find it the cheapest. Also don't forget if you find it on the big box stores you can ship to the store for free most of the time.
  20. Hey all I just bought a HT (Hi-Tech Fishing) All Purpose Powder Coated Minnow Trap its black and round and two pieces comes with a cheap clip to keep it together I figured I would give one a try since they were on sale at fleet farm for $6... First impressions... barely and I mean barely worth the $6 I had to bend and bend a little more to get it all to line up the powder coat is more like a silicone or latex paint coating it comes right off on the flip point areas when you put the clip on that is supposed to hold it together... the good news is they had two really nice twist ties that held the two pieces together for shipping that will work as a nice safety precaution to keep the two ends together. My opinion on this is don't pay full retail for one of these not worth it @ regular price $10. I would either recommend going with a different brand and spend more or buy a roll of hardware cloth and some zip ties and make your own which is next on my list... cheers all D

    Minwax?

Now this has been and interesting thread I have coated one lure along time back that I made one of my first in minwax just to try it out the lure wasnt weighted correctly so I just made it a wall hanger but it was super easy to use it did tint the white paint just a touch I think it just could have been an older can from the hardware store thou... I would be interested to see if anyone has tried Marine grade urethane... much longer dry time but made for constant water and drys clear like this stuff here http://www.zoro.com/g/00060673/k-G2901936?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google_Shopping_Feed&kpid=G2901936&gclid=CM2h9KSWsL4CFWNgMgodvBgAWA

    Hi All

Welcome to TU Matt I don't pour my own lead but there are enough people on here that do you could write a dictionary of instruction on it I am guessing.
  23. I totally thought of that idea when I watched the above video... how interesting it would be to have your own personal fish to swim around the lake and see whats down there.
  24. I always have wondered what would happen if you drilled a bigger hole in the middle
