Ah here Ben is the pic of that spoon I did awhile back I thought it was in my gallery but it apparently is not....
-
So I finally managed to track down the pic I took of all the spoons the kids and I did. All these spoons were bought at are local junk shop and I got a pile more of them then this. They for like 10 for $3 since they were all rusty or missing most of the paint etc... I sanded off all the faces and primered them all and we went to town with painters tape and rattle cans... the goofy designs on some are from the kids choices of stuff. Needless to say in the best Northern Pike lake we have they all caught fish and what a cheap project to do. They all got two coats of auto clear which seems to hold up almost as good as powder coat.

Just remember if you are having trouble getting so many images to fit on one piece of paper ask the guy at office max to help you and he will ;-) thats there job

There are a couple good How-To's in the hard bait section on photo finishing... just remember what ever kind of material you put the photo on make sure it is sealed really well... I put a picture of a perch on a daredevil along time ago and coated it with d2t and it still looks the same as the day I made it with a few scratches from pike nailing it... I was just experimenting at the time and only used simple bright printer paper... I also bought some clear printable sticker paper off of amazon the only problem I found with this is you have to make a colored background on the lure that matches the printed picture you made so perch you would want to use yellow's and blacks over some foil perhaps... or you can paint over the sticker... lastly if you don't have access to a good printer or that kind of paper... use your computer to make the pictures in the shape you want for your lure style put them on a USB drive or disc and run them down to office max they can print them on about anything you want and can help fit more images on a sheet as well if you can't figure that out... and its pretty cheap.

Wow that is a great idea and you could even cut them to size as needed

Now that is a good idea... I will have to try that I can just tie some simple black fly's
-
Yeah it is... they seem to work ok... caught a couple crappies on the smaller ones... it almost needs a solid collar under it to make it puff out more to give it a better look in the water...

My two cents on that is with the line tie separate from any hook hangers if your lip breaks or pops out for any reason kiss the lure good bye... the other option you could do is put the back hook hanger separate and have the line tie and front hook hanger as one... somewhere around here Dieter I think has a picture or drawing of what I am talking about... I can't remember the lure he used it on.

Have you thought of Flee Markets and perhaps just some casting and talking at your local boat launches or busy fishing piers on the weekends if you just want to sell a few... it's an easy way to get word of mouth going...

Now that I'll give a try to I am going to go pick up a minnow trap tomorrow at fleet farm since tomorrow is payday! lol I would just make one put that sounds like allot of time right now. I have never dealt with chubs in anyway shape or form and I have lived in this state all my life... and allot of guys around town that are older keep saying there is no better bait in the river... well I can see why the walleyes come up to shore at night and just go nuts for them while the smallies during the day hours go nuts for them... seems to be the predominate minnow in the river...
-
Yeah Dieter doesn't have tackle boxes or bags... he has a tackle SHED
-
No they really don't make life easy hear... I just got a tip on where to maybe find some in a creek vs the river so we will have to see what turns up there if I get the time to go check it out.
-
Must be some monster fish to do that... I've had 12lb pike on tail dancers and never had one do that... I do have to say thou that Rapala has really gotten cheap on there lures of the past few years...

Can't do the Sabiki rig here DNR wouldn't like that much lol and I tried some bread I had with a even a little corn and a baby chunk of crawler... no takers... but the one... it was strange there was a whole school of them hanging around the dam wall in the calm part and there were some really big ones in there as well... but no body was biting... I was tempted to go get a minnow trap and try some wet and dry cat food to see if that would do the job. You can watch the walleyes come up in the evening to feed on these things so I know they would make great bait once the sun set for some big eyes...
-
Yeah I can't see a bass having enough power to bite one in half... if a muskie hit one that would be a different story or perhaps a large northern pike... but even then I am guessing your using D2T or something close to glue this all together I doubt a fish could split the halfs myself...or pull the back hook hanger out.

Whats the spoon made from? Perhaps a really strong magnet from the hardware store?

So I was down at the Mississippi river yesterday for a fun day of just fishing my brains out caught tons of bass and some really nice ones... I noticed along the dam wall under water there were tons of creek chubs I tried some last little bit of crawler I had and nothing and I even made a quick 2 liter pop bottle trap (since the bottle was in the car) baited it with some crawler... .nothing... I did finally get one to smack a the absolute smallest jig I had in my box took for ever but it finally did... which I then in turn put it on a bigger hook and caught this... Just shy of a 4lbs smally on it... biggest I've caught out of the Mississippi... my question is does anyone have advice on catching these chubs... either on rod or in a minnow trap... bait for traps etc... thanks in advance guys.

I have an antique fishing lure hanging up at my moms with a bunch of others for decoration at her house its a hard plastic body with rubber legs and when you pull the line tie the legs move backward... then you stop pulling and they slide forward there is a big single hook out the center back of the body and a small single hook in the middle of each leg... after some googling I found a picture of it Halik Leg Action Frog I have the one on the bottom... Here is a lure for Dieter to try and remake lol.

Where did you get the Devcon 5 minute at? Just ask that store to get you the 30minute if its a hardware store they can usually have it with the same week

How are those bad images? lol looks really good and straight forward

Ok here is what I would do... I am sure there are better people here that know way more then me thou... You have your two shaped halfs... your lip slot cut, your ballast has its place picked out in the body that the wire with either go around or thru would be my guess... I would put the cut lexan lip on the wire first then close the two halves around your ballast and the lip/wire glue it all together and you should be good to go... Did you check out that second thread I posted about there is a ton of good info in that about this... essentially I would start with the small stuff first... after you already have a formed lure body with lip slot cut but its still in two halves... make sure to press the two pieces of balsa together with the wire between so it makes its indent before you glue it so everything fits nice when you do glue it.

I looked around on youtube on his channel didn't find one so we will have to wait and see what he says... I know about amonth ago or so we had a similar conversation about this as well thou... There was this thread ... http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/topic/26898-how-do-you-you-attach-your-lips/ and there was this one that Dieter has some really nice pics in for thru wire on crankbaits with large lips http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/index.php?/topic/26845-how-can-i-make-my-own-dive-lips-with-the-line-tie-in-it/

First question I have is are you using two halves of the wood to make the bait or cutting a slot in the bottom of a solid bait? Either way doesn't really matter that much I just know from reading around and looking at everything around each have there good and bad sides to doing what your asking about... from my own research I would use a slot in the bottom... cut the lip slot before putting in the wire... make sure you cut a slot in the bottom of the lip... attach the lip and then put your wire in the bottom of the bait and up into the lip I drew a really crappy picture in paint one time that gives an idea of this...
-
You should put this in the How-To section with the wire baits that way it stays there for new people to see as well.
