Well after sealing it and goofing around in the sink for a half hour trying different things it seems like about a half ounce of lead is needed right about where the stencil has it to get a nice sinking glide without just sinking straight to the bottom actually 7/16 of lead would be better but I don't have a scale so will have to work with 1/2oz is gonna have to do

The other place you can put photos and link to them if you want them public or private is if you have a google account... you can either put them in your google drive area or add them to your google plus page and then open photo on google plus page right click photo click "copy image URL" and paste it in the photo bar that comes up when you click the photo icon. If you use google drive you can click the share button and it will give you the link to copy and paste... I know other Email providers have this option as well I am just not sure how it is done.

Hi Curt I've been a member for almost two years and I use this site now more then I did in the recent months past work will do that for ya thou, and now that I have more free time I find myself back here reading up on the conversations of things I missed out on and expanding my knowledge of luring building. I had a random thought this morning about a small improvement... in the black button bar across the top how about adding a video section up there and breaking it down just similar to how we have the gallery and if you took the original idea of the gallery from the idea above where people saw the new pic posts every time you came to the home page you could have a small section below it for the new video posts. I think this would not only help out the video makers but help new people find videos that would help and increase more discussions from them here on the forum.

Tried it in the shear with a new blade when I worked at the sign shop years back and it chips at the starting edge and still needs sanding you need something under it to get the clean cut. You can buy a sliding cutter that cuts pretty clean but it costs allot same thing the hardware stores have for glass and plexy

Yeah I figured before I paint anymore of the bodies I've just made by hand I should practice a bit... I took a piece of heavy artist paper and traced out different lure body styles on it and have started painting them... I am just using general acrylic paint from the craft shop since we already had a ton of it and most of it is for outdoor use... but he have all the primary colors so you can mix them to get just about anything seems to be working out ok I'm gonna glue some tin foil on a sheet later and repeat the shapes on that and see what happens there... the silver paint turn out ok but still looks a little cheesy...

Ok so I did my homework and searched the forum fairly well I really didn't find a thread about painting with a paint brush... Since I just tried my hand at it and found it allot tougher then I thought it was going to be I am asking who paints there baits with a paint brush? What kind of paint and brushes do you use? I know there are a few people here that do and there has got to be some tips of good ideas or bad ideas for using paint brushes.

Yeah and if you want straight line cuts if you buy a 4'x8' sheet of the stuff just put a trim blade in the table saw and run it thru that I am not sure about if I would bother with a 1/32 sheet 1/4" and up it worked like a champ.

Interesting the hole in the lip with the wire thru it just about guarantee's centering the lip pretty easily onto the bait... I would be interested to see if that would work with a long lip crank bait where you bring the wire out into the lip

Well I tried Paul Adams trick on youtube... glued three hacksaw blade sections together and just cut it out... worked like a champ... if your are using thinner material just glue two sections together...

good use of a pellet gun pellet I would have never thought to use one of those for weighting

Diemai great video earlier today you posted on youtube I was hoping to see one of these lures in it... but you didnt have one! How are they coming along?

Hey by the way guys I found this handy calculator for figuring weight out I punched in the mm dimensions for the lure design Deiter showed me and ended up with 5.7 grams or .0126 pounds and just use google to change either one to onces... turns out really close to 1/4 once as a starting reference! Handy sight I would say especially if you are using the templates that don't give weight just dimension of holes size to fill here is the site if you want to check it out. http://www.matweb.com/tools/weightcalculator.aspx

This Is What Happens When It Rains For The Weekend
Griffond replied to Griffond's topic in Hard Baits
Well I will finish this thread off with the end result of old guys debating over color and my horrible hand painting skills I guess I need to practice more with brush painting it's very difficult for me do since it never does what I want it to. I used acrylic paints from the craft store to paint this fyi... that might be part of it. Coated in D2T -

Well the first thing I have to do is make a glider/jerkbait so I think I will go with deiters idea first but I have a question for ya Deiter on that 11cm roach how much weight do you think goes in that hole at the rear of the bait? I'm using aspen for this I figured like a 1/2 once of lead?

That's been around for awhile I wasn't to impressed with it when I saw one being used at the fish expo in Walker, MN awhile back...

So what I am getting out of all this is weight + mass gets better glide which makes sense kind like a big bullet has allot of energy but so does a really long one of a smaller diameter... so maybe we are going about smaller jerk baits the wrong way... what if we were to take weight into account first over mass which makes things sink for example then add the mass to make it float... so my hair brained idea would be something along the lines of perhaps a lexan or brass body with a small dowel or foam top to make it float... almost like a backwards of those metal minnows that are weighted with lead on the bottom I can't think of the name of them you can buy molds to make your own... we use them for ice fishing more then anything in MN... anyone's thoughts on this?

So we have great talks and and threads going hear about properly weighting crank baits which usually means something with a lip that dives even if its very little... but what about properly weighting glide baits? Now I am guessing that not allot of people fish with them and if you don't you are missing out because I have had some experience now with some and believe them to be a very great lure especially in the fall which is now coming on strong in the northern part of north america anyway... and the thing I don't see about them or ever talked about is size. I've used plenty of musky sized ones now because that is what's made the most but really how about some bass/ northern size ones that fall in the 3-4 inch range or less all the predatory species in North America would destroy these things in the fall feeding... I've just recently purchased some 1/4 thick aspen wood and some balsa of same size and am going to try my hand at making some smaller and larger gliders and would love to hear some input on everyone's thoughts.
