  1. Be safe and follow the adviceg oven here. Also check out the pinned lead safety thread at the top of this page.
  2. The email I have is sc3696@aol.com . He has taken awhile to get back to me on the mold he is making me right now. But he is now working on it. Usually he is fairly prompt to answer my emails. I think he is done with eBay for good or at least a long time. If you need a total custom mold you could try Bob LaLonde at CNC molds n stuff. He does real good quality work. He is also a member here.
  3. Shawn Collins has some great slab molds. If you need some samples I would be willing to send you some. I must have 20 or so of Shawns molds. In fact I have one on order right now for a slab jig.
  4. Lead especially scrap has impurities in it and on it. Dirt, debris, old alloy metals etc. These impurities can clog lead pot spouts and make for incomplete castings among other things. When it is melted only some of those impurities come out from the melting process alone. Fluxing causes most of the rest if not all of those impurities to separate and being lighter than lead float to the top where they can be skimmed off.
  5. How much lead can you flux with a tube? I have 600#+ of dead soft lead scrap waiting to be ingotized and was wondering if a guy found some Vitaflux how far does a tube go? I use several hundred pounds of lead a year so need something that I can find enough of to do that with every year.
  6. I use beeswax. It isn't really that expensive since so little is used. I buy a pound or two on sale at the state fair from the beekeepers booth every other year or so. That's enough to do hundreds of pounds. I make ingots outdoors using a dutch oven on a 30,000 btu turkey fryer burner. This pot holds 196# of lead at a time. Flux all the lead well and then reflux it once added to the pot in my shop. I have enough ingot molds I just cycle through them so I don't have to stop to let one cool.
  7. Good point that would probably be the least expensive way to get a few copies of this bait. If it turns out a real winner then a more expensive aluminum mold could be ordered. You could most likely use the inserts for the cut face tail spinner Do-It sells.
  8. Great Job on quitting the cancer sticks! I bet you feel healthier already and your food tastes better. Your body and your grandkids will thank you later and you will be around to teach the jig making and fishing to your granddaughter.
  9. What is so different from the cutface tail spinner Do-It makes? Will the minor differences really matter to the fish? I.E. is it that radically different that you can see a difference in the lures action or your catch rate suffering? Just curious as I do see some differences but not enough for me to spend $200-$300 vs a $35 Do -It mold. But if you gotta have it you gotta have it. I do own some custom CNC molds myself but with the ones I have nothing comes close in size or style commercially.
  10. I looked up the little Suzy and you are correct Bob the cut face tail spinner is a pretty close match. Nice catch. Hope it helps Roadkill out.
  11. When you sell jigs it does allow you to buy more molds and equipment. I had given some jigs to a friend who went fishing with an acquaintance of mine and showed him how well they work. The guy came over and bought $1,000 worth for his boat. That allowed me to buy some more Shawn Collins molds. Besides it could be worse I could be collecting beanie babies or something!
  12. Sorry but that's not one I have in my collection, Was the mold ever commercially available? If you need one forum member Bob Lalonde could certainly help you out by making one on his CNC machine.
  13. I must be close to 120 including my ingot molds.I know I was over 110 awhile back. Just got 3 more in the other day. Some from Do-it about 20 Shawn Collins molds. Some from Lil Mac,some from Hilts,a couple of old Herters and Palmer molds some others including a few from Europe. I just always find a mold I just gotta have or something I have been dying to try and so eventually just order the molds. I do have a few old molds I probably need to Ebay at some point as I will never use them. Bought them on Ebay in a lot and use the ones I wanted but have no use for the others. collecting molds to use is addicting that's for sure.
  14. Just be aware pig lead comes in a larger chunk. you may have issues getting into a smaller pot if thats what you have.
  15. You can email him and have him make the same mold to fit the hook you want. I haqve close to 20 of shawns molds and have had him make custom sizes etc for me.
  16. I also highly recommend Barlows. They have everything you need and I am always needing other stuff as well so it makes sense to get it all at once. Excellent customer service and always well packaged. I had an issue with a Zeiners order so gave up on them myself. I believe Shark River Mail order was cheaper than Zeiners but it took awhile to get my molds.
  17. That's just Awesome Mark! Don't know how I would use it for jig making but it's still cool.
  18. How in the heck did you pull the base off? My fluid beds are made using end caps and they are glued in using PVC/ABS glue. I would break the PVC before it pulled off..
  19. I use the cheap aquarium valves from walmart. use epoxy or JB weld to secure them in. Been working great for 5+ years
  20. That's great! Good job! You are going to be much healthier and feel that way also. Keep it up and before long you won't remember why you ever smoked in the first place.
  21. Thought about it but haven't tried it. On my big saltwater jigs I think they would cool to much but on smaller Bass sized jigs it might work.
  22. I made my table 4'x4' out of 3/4" plywood. Used 4x4's for the legs and 2x4's for the braces. Then I went to a sheetmetal shop and had them cut me a top for it. Their sheets are 4'x4' so on opposing ends I had them bend one inch down. I don't recall the cost but the sheetmetal was less than $30 I believe. A smaller table would also be easy to make in the same fashion. I used to use the cookie sheet idea but when I moved I decided to get a real table and decided just to build one like I did. Mine sits next to my garage roll up door so if need be I can just slide it out to work outside or to make ingots. I always make my scrap lead ingots outside. I'm glad this was the worst of what happened. It certainly could have been worse.
  23. That Oven looks remarkably similar to the Sunbeam toaster oven I bought at a garage sale for $30. Yours might be a bit better quality overall but sizewise etc. looks quite similar. Let us know how it works for you. In the event I need another one sometime I may consider it.
  24. Good to hear you are working on keeping your self healthier.Good luck and stay safe.
