  1. I heat mine on either a hotplate or a presto pot. I heat until it's the consistency of hot syrup.
  2. Dang.. You're further down the road than I am!! I have some BT molds but a dual injector is still on the wishlist right now. I'm going to wait until Baitjunky's twin setup is ready....
  3. If you are carving masters out of wood, i would try an epoxy like Trout said... Once the two part sets up, it should be bombproof. Maybe spraying some sort of release agent (PAM cooking spray? WD-40?) on the epoxied master would help keep it from sticking to the bondo...
  4. I'll be getting my bags from Baitjunky's also... Can't beat the price. Off topic I know, but if you haven't seen the site his injectors look fantastic.
  5. For some reason I can't edit my reply so I'm reposting with the edit.... And welcome to TU!! You'll find practically every (and I mean EVERY!!) answer to any question you could imagine here and you'll find all the folks here to be encouraging and very helpful. I know I have benefitted greatly by being here and my learning curve was flattened considerably. By the by... I am new to soft plastics myself but to answer your question, I use 1/4 tsp to a 4oz. portion of plastisol. As far as plastisol goes, try everybody's stuff out before settling on one brand... Most folks will gladly send you a sample to try out.... I'm sure you're aware that there are several manufacturers out there, all with different grades (soft, medium, hard and more!) of plastisol... I am currently trying quite a few and have developed some pretty good ideas about what I do and don't like about each brand.... Personally, I prefer softer plastics as I feel they have better action (at the potential cost of durability, but if I'm only catching one fish per worm I'm ok with that...) but with other lures that I will be making in the near future I believe I'll find that a firmer plastic would work better.... Like I said, try as many out as you can...

  7. I hope you realize and appreciate how blessed you are to have a wife who wants to share this with you... My wife is a wonderful person in many ways but one thing she could not care less about is my luremaking/fishing "hobby"...
  8. Scroll waaaaaaaaayyyy down til you get to yhe PH Rainey lure.... http://www.joeyates.com/floridalures.htm
  9. I'm sure this isn't it but it might be a suitable replacement... http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/bassboard/fishing_tactics/message.html?message_id=315070
  10. Got some BT holographic glitter the other day and really like the look of it.... My problem is that when I heat the plastic enough to pour correctly ( and I am hand pouring these worms, not injecting) the glitter shrivels up and/or "taco's" on me. Should I add the glitter while the plastic is still cold or just add the heat more slowly or what? I know now that (unlike almost every other glitter I use) you can't just heat up the plastic and toss in the glitter... This stuff actually made popping noises like Rice Krispies when I added it today... I need to know the balance between getting the plastic up to the correct temp to pour without ruining the glitter in the process...
  11. X2. Baitjunky's is about to get a LOT of business from me... I already have a mold coming and I got some samples of plastisol to try also... I like that he's right up the riad from me too. Between Spike-it and Baitjunky's, my soft plastic needs are totally covered locally. You cannot beat that!!

    Clemson Crank

Seriously though, nice job! Glad they caught the jerk who broke Howard's rock.... I couldn't believe it was a Clemson fan!

    Clemson Crank

What does IPTAY stand for anyway?? I Pay Ten Athletes aYear? I Plant 'Taters All Year? I see those stickers on Clemson fans' windows all the time...
  14. Especially if you live in a humid area (as I do here in Georgia)... I really love the results I got from DN but if I ever buy some more I'll do the "tap the can" method and brush on. I just love the ease of dipping baits so much that it would be hard for me to go another route right now.... Maybe when the weather gets cooler and the humidity dies down I'll revisit brushing on topcoats...
  15. I wonder how that would work with a topwater or a jerkbait.... Hmmmmmm.....
  16. Gotcha. I'm fairly illiterate where stuff like this is concerned....
  17. I registered my domain name with Godaddy but will transfer it when I decide on a host...
  18. Excellent!! At least we know what NOT to do!! You saved me (and maybe a few others) some time and frustration.... I had thought about trying that also....
  19. I've been busy with my new plastisol stuff and haven't been doing much with the balsa lately but I did try out some ideas that I had been kicking around. I put some weight up higher in the crank just a bit forward of CoG and was surprised at the results. I had always thought that you didn't want to have weight that high in a bait but i guess as long as you have weight at the bottom you can have that wiggle room, so to speak.... i see now what folks mean when they say its a comete system.... No one part of the puzzle is enough....
  20. My experience was that it took clise to a month from order to delivery but IIRC, Dick is a one man band so you have to consider that. Your patience will be rewarded. DN is a great product.

That's almost (almost, I say!!!) unfair to the fish!!!
  22. An online store. It's really a ways diwn the riad for me but like anything else, I want to go ahead and get my plan together well beforehand. Your site is really well done. Did you do the whole thing through godaddy?
  23. I went ahead and locked down my domain name for one year (only) with one of the well known providers.... I'll PM you shortly to get details on getting your husbands help to get a site up and running. Thanks!!
  24. Did a search on this subject and the threads are several years old.... Anybody have any current advice on getting up and running? I'm kind of leery of some of the sites I saw claiming to "Register your domain name for CHEEP!!!".... I don't want to make any more trouble for myself than neccesary.... TIA for your help!!
  25. Really happy with the flexibility and clarity of the LW i got yesterday.... The stuff smokes like crazy though!! I didn't experience any more bubbling than with the MF but i use hotplates and stir slooooowwwwwwly... Do I need to heat this stuff more gradually than the MF? I did experience some pourability issues but i'm chalking that up to operator error at this point. I feel like once I get used to LW I'm really going to like it. I will be trying some plastisol from another local supplier I found out about yesterday and will decide between those two. My gut is that I'll end up using a lot of both!!
