  1. I saw an ad the other day, Arashi lure company released a new line of baits with circut board lips. There may be a few reviews on them. I'm probably a smaller guy than either of the other two posters here. I like the circut board bills just fine.
  2. I've been making baits for about two years now. I feel the same way. Don't be hard on yourself. I find that I am my biggest critic. Just have fun.
  3. I use rattle can white primer than base coat is brush on cheap acrylic craft paint. I do detail work with Createx in an airbrush then top coat with ACC. I find the primer gives the bait a brighter finish.

    No paint

    It looks great.
  5. I brushed the d2t clear coat on. It goes on with the consistency of maple syrup. The brush marks level out as it sets and cures. Just make sure you don't get the stuff on any parts that need to move. As far as wear or gumming up. I haven't had alot of time to test it. I have an infant and he's been cutting into my fishing time. The d2t dries very hard.

I pulled this out of spot a guy fishing with a store bought lure gave up on.
  7. You can try looking up Dr. Todd Larson. He knows more about antique fishing tackle than any one person should.
  8. Try Jannsnetcraft.com They sell a Mylar tubing in the fly tying supplies. It looks like it would be the same stuff
  9. Specs on their website says 24 hr pot life. And you need a respirator while spraying that stuff. It looks like a good choice.
  10. I was invited to join a group on Facebook the other day called "Custom Tackle Auctions" it seems like it may be a viable option to sell a few baits. I haven't tried it yet.
  11. Thanks mark, it took about three days. I would work on it when I got home from work.
  12. Thanks guys. Mark, the first picture in the link you sent is my finished product. I added the picture this morning. Gon2Long, I used my Createx paint process I use on my crank baits. I was very careful not to put any D2T on anything that moved. The reel looks okay, but works better than it did. Thanks for the reply guys.

My first attempt at a reel. It's better than I expected.

It worked for me, that is awesome. Bassin901 you may have to adjust your picture size in the settings on your phone.

  16. The area I fish in Louisiana has pretty dark stained water. I do pretty well with bright reds and chartreuse colors. You could also check local fishing reports on the internet and hope they are honest.
  17. I use a ball rasp chucked in a rotozip (Dremel should work) to create the mouth on top waters.
  18. I use the same technique as Musky Glen and it works well for me. I recommend laying out both top and side profiles before you make any cuts.
  19. What about empty 20oz water bottles?
  20. I recently was given an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur fishing reel. I am considering painting it a "custom" color. Is Createx paint okay to use for this? Any recommendations on a clear coat? Any tips or experience are welcome. Matt
  21. Try contacting whoever makes Mona Lisa glue. It seems that the glue is releasing when you apply the epoxy topcoat. Maybe they can recommend something that will play nice.
  22. I used a small electric space heater to speed up dry time on my clear coat (Amazing Clear Cast). It worked but I find the clear coat wasn't as hard and the baits chipped easier. Check the specs on your clear coat for ideal drying temps.
  23. The equipment I use to hold the bait is a dowel rod with an electrical alligator clip attached one end. The other end has a piece of Velcro that attaches to my lure turner. My clear coat is amazing clear casts.
  24. Xtx, cut a piece of wood, drill a bunch of holes in it, then paint it yellow. Hang a hook on one end and you're done.
