  1. You could carve at the hotel and test fish in the pool.
  2. You're not the only one brainstorming mark. I'm planning to take my niece fishing this spring and I am thinking she needs a princess crank bait.

    first one

It looks better than my first one. Good job.
  4. Hobby Lobby sells the 2oz bottles that paint come in but they are empty. Six pack is $3. That's what I use to mix my paint.
  5. If you have a locally circulated fishing magazine, they usually have a classified section you could sell in. I have never sold fishing lures but I have sold other things. My local magazine is called Louisiana Sportsman if you want to google it.

    unpainted

The joint is pretty strong. I used tite bond wood glue. I may never fish these. I glued the wood together for another project and these were cut from some of the scrap pieces.

    unpainted

Unpainted baits made from Cypress and Mahogany.
  8. I use cypress for my baits. If it's available in your area I recommend it. It works well with hand and power tools. It is also rot resistant. It was the go to wood for duck decoys back in the day.
  9. I use cypress. It is harder than balsa but not as dense as poplar. Old timers used to carve duck decoys from cypress because it does well in wet applications. It seemed like an easy choice for me plus it's readily available for me.
  10. I agree that everything is scale material. I was pocketing the decorative ribbon from Christmas presents because of the unique pattern.
  11. I apologize for the long delay getting back to you guys. My heat gun went AWOL. The stencil material did not do well when the heat was applied. The plastic never sagged, it just wrinkled. I used the technique demonstrated by Dakota lakes tackle on their YouTube page.

    Merry Xmas

    Merry Christmas from Hammond, LA

    Holiday's

Thanks Brent, Merry Christmas to you too.
  14. I add glitter to my clear coat (ACC) to give the finish some extra flash if I need it. It gives a similar result.
  15. I use brad point bits for mine and they work well for me. A mouse pad from a computer works well as a pad to protect the bait when you clamp it in a vice. The back side of the pad also has a slip resistant material.
  16. I've been using Amazing Clear Cast. It is available at Hobby Lobby. I like it a lot. I can't compare it to any of the other choices because its all I've ever used.

    Picture 5

This bait is a cypress body that is painted with Createx paints and clear coated with Amazing Clear Cast. It also has a rattle in the tail section. The bait dives to approximately 6 feet. Thanks for looking. Matt
  18. I make templates from thin Luan plywood. I trace them onto cypress blocks and cut them out. I cut just proud of the line and sand to it. I mark the templates to show where to drill holes for ballast. It's a process that works for me but I'm not a perfectionist.
  19. Happy thanksgiving guys.
  20. I know it's been said before but Iwata Neo Gravity Feed is $65 at Hobby Lobby. Get the 40% coupon and the gun is a bargain for beginners.

    You can't see me.

The fish will never see it....cool though
  22. Dakota Lakes Tackle has a pretty good How To video on YouTube for making a vacuum mold. The stencil material I found is $3 a sheet and works good for my baits but I mostly make flat side baits.
