  1. i bought stencil material from Hobby Lobby two weeks ago. It was advertised to be used for making quilt stencils. It is thicker than overhead projector sheets but cuts easily with scissors and an exacto knife. I havent tried to heat it and vaccum form it, but I will give it a go in the interest of "Science."

    New Ones.

It floats. When I retrieve it it dives and runs about 18" under the water. If I stop reeling it goes back to the surface... Fast!

    Before and After

The lure on the right is one of the first lures I made over a year ago. The one on the left is one I finished this morning. I think I have come along way.... Thanks Guys.
  4. You can rotate by hand but I got a much better result with my lure turner because i tend to forget to turn the lures. It has no noticeable smell.
  5. I have not used Devon to compare it. I brush it on. It does have to be rotated. It is about the consistency of pancake syrup and it will run as it dries.
  6. I went to buy supplies today at Hobby Lobby and found "Quilters Template Plastic." It is a 12"x18" sheet of thin plastic that is advertised as "Excellent for making reusable quilt templates." It was $2. I bought one and I am cutting templates for future projects. Has anybody tried this stuff? Does anyone have any recommendations of standard templates I should have on hand for future lures?
  7. I was in academy the other day and they had rotisseries on clearance for $12. FYI.
  8. #2 hooks look right, IMO. I have no experience with plastic dip. I am still loyal to Amazing Clear Cast for a clear coat.
  9. My turner is pretty similar to the two pictured. The block of wood attached to my turner motor is covered in the rough side of some Velcro. I have dowel rods that have alligator clips on one end and the soft side of the Velcro on the other end. I use the dowel rod as a handle while I paint and clear the bait. Then just stick the handle to the turner using the Velcro while the clear dries.
  10. I'm a hobbyist. I have been toying around with making lures since high school but got serious about it two years ago. I have an uncle who ties flies. He really started motivating me but I have no interest in fly fishing so I focused on crank baits. With a little help from a friend who makes awesome crank baits and the info on TU I have been honing my craft. I make what I consider to be a mediocre crank bait. I get a lot of positive feedback from others and I catch fish. I don't sell any lures. I fish them myself and barter them to a friend who owns a cypress mill for rough cut cypress to make more lures.
  11. I love the NEO. I started with a siphon feed Pasche and stepped up about eight months ago. It made a world of improvement. JoliePa, if you can wait about a month, Lowes and Home Depot usually put an air compressor on sale for cheap for the day after thanksgiving. Then you can start a great set up. You can also check garage sales and flea markets for cheap air compressors.
  12. I bought the iwata neo gravity feed from Hobby Lobby using the 40% off coupon and I think it was about $30.
  13. I live in a rural area and if UPS doesn't have any other deliveries in my area they will drop off at USPS to complete a delivery. I'm not saying that's what happened here but a possibility. I order my products from Janns Netcraft. I have nothing but positive experiences with them.
  14. The fabric in the picture looks like tule. It's available at any craft store in a variety of sizes. Has anyone tried fiberglass drywall tape for scale patterns?
  15. Start with an LLC or Corporation. It will help to protect your personal assets. Good luck in your endeavor.
  16. They have a good action. They are light so I have a hard time casting them with any distance.
  17. EDL- Amazing Clear Cast Tree Fish, I had problems around 35 or 40 degrees Fahrenheit. I live in southeast louisiana it doesn't get that cold here except on occasion.
  18. I mix my ACC using measuring spoons for cooking. The set cost a dollar and I keep using them. I learned from experience ACC does not mix or cure well in cold weather.
  19. . I have the $60 Harbor Freight special. It has a variable speed control that at lower speeds is very quiet. I would think it would be okay as long as your not running it at 2:00am. I would also speak to the neighbors and ask them to let you know if you are making to much noise before they call the law on you.
  20. Back to the original question... If anyone feels they have "too many lures" I will gladly take your surplus.
  21. Thanks Jig Man. Paint Stripper did the job with a little help from a wire brush. I don't have the gear to powder coat. I have been making crank baits for about a year now. I am planning to use those techniques to revitalize these old spinners.
