I was recently given a handful of old spinnerbaits. The skirts are shot and the jig heads need to be repainted. Is there a secret to removing the old paint prior to priming and painting?

Have you tried carving your bodies from cypress? I get great wobble from mine. I am not sure about "back up."

I use the "cheap acrylics" on my baits. I thin with water about 50/50. It works okay especially for smaller accent colors. The paint will run because it is very thin. Due to the thinned pigment it sometimes takes two coats.

I used that technique after Rayburn Guy posted about it. I put my sealer coat on to thick. When the netting was removed it left for a rough finish that looked bad.... Thin coats are the key.

I use tulle (from Hobby Lobby) but clip it to my lures with binder clips so the tulle doesn't shift and blur the lines. It works good enough to catch fish.

I keep my tackle in a plastic tackle box on a top shelf in my garage. The temps easily break 100 degrees in August in SE Louisiana. I have ony made three batches of lures using ACC in the past two months. I have had no issues with yellowing or bubbling of the clear coat. The specs sheet that came with the ACC states that it contains "UV Stabilizers." On an unrelated issue, I did add glitter to the ACC prior to brushing it on and it added a pretty cool effect to the finish on the lure. I hope the bass feel the same way. Matt

Boyd, I use a belt sander flipped upside down and clamped in my vice to help shape lures. I bought my sander at a flea market by my house. In my experience, Flea markets and garage sales are a good place to find cheap tools. If the foam you have doesn't work to protect you lures from you vice jaws, try a computer mouse pad. It will protect the wood from the metal jaws and the no slip rubber backing will keep the lure from shifting.

I don't have a turner and started using ACC based on this feed. I hang them and turn them every fifteen minutes for an hour and the final finish is great.

I have read several articles by Dr. Todd Larson regarding antique tackle. The man apparently knows more about the topic than any single person should. You could try a google search. He is affiliated with Field and Stream Magazine.

I have been making lures through the trial and error process for about three months now. Based on a post on this site I bought ACC. I made one batch of lures with it and the results were great. Also the instructions that came with the pack say that " UV Inhibitors have been added to the ACC." Does that mean that the ACC can still yellow?
