  1. Sweet paint job! I make my own lures and airbrush them so I was wondering what you are using for the paint? And also for the clear coat? Automotive finishes? I shoot lacquer on my lures but use an epoxy clear coat, so don't think that would work on the reels. I have been wanting to paint all of my baitcasters but have been scared to try. Any tips?
  2. This would work on bass here in California!
  3. Here is a remake of a vintage lure from the 1920's with a little modification from me. The lure is made from cedar, airbrushed, and then clear coated with epoxy. That part was the easy part. The hard part was making the wire frame to hold the lure. I used .051 wire and then bent and formed the wire to follow the contour of the lure with some loops to hold the hooks and connect the two ends of the lure. It rotates as water is pushed against the thin aluminum "fin" I made from a soda can. This aluminum seemed to be the best fit for what I was doing here. It was really difficult to get the fin turned just right on the side of the lure. This by far is the most difficult lure I have attempted, but the most enjoyable and satisfying when I finished. I hope you enjoy! This lure was accidently entered in the best paint job category when I dropped my keyboard and mouse on the floor! I apologize for that.
  4. Really nice looking bait! That would definitely catch some here in the California lakes.
  5. These dragon fly lures are made of walnut after making a prototype that was too fragile. I have used through wire construction on these with a hook hanger on the bottom. I think I will be adding a Jitterbug bill on these.

    Big Swimbait

Just finished this prototype of a large swimbait. It is made of red cedar with weights and rattles. I used thick plastic for the tail and fins. Hope you enjoy! Mike
  7. Mark, I am going to check around and see what if any is out there. I am going into an art gallery in April and I think those props with also glass eyes is not an option for the "higher end" customer that will buy from there. Thanks again for the help. Mike
  8. Mark and sonoman thanks for the help. I contacted Kermett Adams and he gets them from the source I found. I was hoping to find a bulk supplier to cut costs. Mark I use the cup washers you were referring to already. The props I am speaking of are a little different. They are on www.walleyesupply.com. Thanks again guys for the help. Mike
  9. Sonoman, Yeah I figured he would be able to tell me, but I e-mailed him several months ago so I will have to try him again. Thanks Mike
  10. Mark I have never even considered using that, but now that makes me want to try some. Getting the whole thing balanced without sealing or painting would be a HUGE advantage! Thanks. Mike
  11. Hey Mark this is where I get mine now but its the props that have I guess you would call it a collar attached to the prop. Do you understand what I am talking about. Don't know if that's the correct description. And thanks for the quick answer. Mike
  12. Gentleman, I need a little help with finding the old school propellers such as are found on the old Heddon lures. I have searched but have only found one source which includes the eye screws, which gets pricey. I am trying to up my game on prop baits since I am going into an art gallery in April so these would look much better than the ones I am used to getting. Any help? Thanks Mike
  13. I mostly use Cedar but have used basswood since there is so much around my in laws house since they are woodcarvers. It works great if you want to do some personal carving on your lures. Like Travis I do suggest sealing with a wood hardener then sanding the raised grain off. This really isn't and option. I have learned you are not going to learn without trying, and yes have successes and failures but that is what makes it so much fun.
  14. Love your wasp since I have been making insects too. What are they made of? Great detail.
  15. I have not added hooks to the insects. The insects are something I have been having fun with so not intended to be lures. Thanks for liking them.
