  1. Yes, that is true. The only baits I purposely salt heavily are my stick baits in order for them to have a good fall rate comparable to that of the Yamamoto Senko.
  2. Some people feel it makes the fish hold the bait longer, the fish can taste it, etc. I'm not personally of that belief and from all the research I've done and seen nothing shows me that bass can taste, but they can smell as well as see colors. The only time I would say salt is a benefit is for tube baits as it helps keep the tails separated in the bag.
  3. I don't make saltwater plastics as I don't live close enough to the salt unfortunately. I don't put salt in many of my baits because I find the more salt in the bait the easier it is to tear up. If someone wants salt in their baits I'll put salt in them but I personally don't find any benefits to having salt in the baits as opposed to not having it.
  4. I use both sea salt without iodine and kosher salt as well. Both of which I grind to a powder or very near to a powder.
  5. I'm using LW med/soft pourasol with 2 1/4 T salt and 3/4 T softener in 1/2 cup of plastic. A Yamamoto senko was 11g and mine end up weighing between 10.8-11g and a great looking wiggle. Give it a try, play with it until you get it the way you want it.
  6. Now that I can see it on my laptop screen I am definitely saying its a light black grape with blue flake and blue hi lite.
  7. Looks like black grape with silver flake and blue hi lite. May be some .008 blue flake in there. Hard to tell.
  8. Carcinogens are everywhere you look. No matter how carefully and clean free you try and live your life you run into at least one every single day just around your house. While plastisol fumes may not be considered a carcinogen I'm sure that it in some way damages the alveoli inside of your lungs as well as other tissues in the lungs to boot. Bottom line, just be careful with it and protect yourself and you'll be fine. You undoubtedly do more damage to your lungs smoking or being around those that smoke than making fishing lures. Plus, I'm sure you use an airbrush and already know the benefits of owning a respirator while painting.
  9. It would be easier to use clay and push half of your master into the clay and then pour RTV on one half, let cure and then mold the other half with RTV. Make some alignment holes in the clay with a large dowel so you can ensure the two halves align each and every time. You could still use the tubing or even some clay to make the pour channel for the bait. There are a few videos you can find on YouTube to give you a better idea of how to do this.
  10. That's a heck of a lot more work than slipping an o ring around my stick baits.
  11. That bait looks like its a violet plastics with a brown skin which is why I was thinking I might be able to mix something up to get that certain effect. Brown plastic with a violet hi lite I can do no problem.
  12. I would love to have that chameleon color. I may try and make it sometime soon, just have to get some more plastic first. I'm thinking of trying a good bit of Purple or maybe Florida grape and then a couple drops of either natural or pumpkin seed. Any other ideas that might be good to try?
  13. Like this, Monte? This is Berkley Havoc's Big Texan color, I've made my own version as well and it is a great flipping color like you said. I really like it in the 702 craw on the back of a jig, or even rigged on a spot sticker when I'm fishing a rocky bottom for big spots.
  14. I don't know if those are a really close match or not without having the actual worm on hand, but at the very least it may be able to point him in the right direction.
  15. Hey Va, I know you got your sweet potato colorant but I tried to match that color based on your picture and I think I got it or at least I am pretty close. My pictures don't do the color justice because my work area isn't lit the best and the camera on my phone is garbage haha. 1/2 cup plastic 2 drops pumpkinseed 2 drops natural 2 drops orange 2 drops white Without having the worm I can't really tell if that is as close as I think it is but you may want to add another drop of white if it isn't as "bright" as the one you have pictured. After I made those I melted them down and made a new little drop shot color I'm really liking that has .008 purple and .015 red flake.
  16. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
  17. Think that is just a reflection als. I think it looks a lot like maybe oxblood, natural and sweet potato colors mixed together. Weird color, I'd love to see it in person to get a better idea of what it really is.
  18. Disco Violet 1/2 cup plastic 1/4 teaspoon powdered salt 1 drop white .035 square black flake .015 purple holo flake match head size violet hi lite Hey Curt, I posted this pic to show the end result. If you want me to remove it I will, or you can whichever just let me know.
  19. Thanks, I'll give it a look and see what I think it might be when I get home.
  20. If you could post a pic that would really help us out a lot. I haven't been able to find a pic online and it isn't a brand I am familiar with.
  21. If you pour or inject your own you should give the bass tackle 702 craw a look. It's my favorite craw now by far.
  22. Hey Ranger, I have misplaced some of my recipes and one of those happens to be my recipe for Dirty Sanchez but I do have a rough idea of what was in it. Chartreuse Lime side 1/2 cup plastic 1 drop white 4-8 drops chartreuse 6-10 drops Lime Green .040 Black flake The brown green pumpkin I can help you with (Exact color shown in pic) 1/2 cup plastic 6 drops Watermelon (LC) 6 drops Pumpkin Seed (LC) 4 drops Green pumpkin (LC) .040 Black flake For the Houdini recipe, what I have is as follows Back color is watermelon red 1/2 cup plastic 3 drops Green Pumpkin 1 drop Watermelon 1 drop Natural 4 drops Lime Green .040 black flake .015 red flake Bottom color is a white pearl 1/2 cup plastic 3 drops white Pearl Powder (just a touch) .040 black flake .015 copper flake .015 gold flake In the actual bait I think the copper and gold flake may be .035 but regardless of size, what ever you go with will still make a sharp looking bait. Here is a pic of some baits I have. The bottom bait is my houdini color with a greener watermelon than the recipe I listed above simply because I like it better that way. The color listed above will be that browner color that RI uses. Also on mine I use .008 gold flake and .015 copper flake with only a small amount of black flake which is why it looks different. In all honesty, I did all that in a hurry just to give you an idea of how it will turn out. You may want to try larger flake in it but that is up to you, I go for what I want my baits to look like (or what my customer wants). Either way, good luck with it and let me know how it works out for you.
