  1. Fishing and firearms, that’s about it.
  2. I heat mine in hot water which thins them out before mixing and applying them. I learned this from a bait maker. It goes on easier, but it seems to set quicker. On a swimbait I can only do on piece at a time, with smaller baits I am sure you could do more. I don’t mix mine very long or that thoroughly and normally I don’t have issues unless I mess up the 1:1
  3. I would name him George he looks like a George
  4. I learned yesterday that the joints need to be much looser than what you’re used to with other lures. I was not getting any clacking on the joint but then loosened it a couple turns and now it’s noisy. If it’s a two piece make sure the back in is smaller than the front end and make the front a little thicker or fatter. At least that’s what works for me. One very important lesson I learned the hard way, I was testing my wake in my pool and it was working fine but when I got to the lake I had already painted it and clear coated and it dove. I have a nice little wake and crank but that’s not what I wanted. Where are you place the line tie is also important. If you place it right up against the lip you make it a better wake, but I may not be that stable at a medium to fast retrieve. From the nose you’re going to get a tighter wiggle, but maybe not the wide wobble you want.
  5. Agreed, I love when baits do that, as long as they returns the center, I call it done.
  6. 100% acetone will work, but will melt the plastic of most baits. But it can get you a start then fishing with a light sandpaper.
  7. Being new to lure making I agree with what some of the guys are saying that maybe you should start with something more simple like a top water, a twitch bait, multi joined bait or a wake. My first glide was like my fifth or sixth lure and it still didn’t work. If you can make one from resin that would be your best bet because you can experiment like crazy on it and just throw it away if it doesn’t work and pour another one.
  8. Hello everyone my name is David, I'm a swimbaiter and part time lure maker. I'm still learning and have a long ways to go. I've made top water baits in the past and now I'm working on swimbaits and trying my hand at painting. I'm really hoping to learn a lot from you guys to help me at improving my techniques. Attached are a few pics of my first and second attempted to repaint a lure. My first attempt failed miserably on the glidebait. Soon after using it, all the paint completely peeled off, the second paint job seems to be holding up.
