  1. Ultra Molds Mini Shooting Star has 2 aluminum pots at 2 quarts each. Their large Shooting Star has 2 stainless pots at 2.5 gallons each. If you want an actual injection machine (remember you have to buy all new "production" molds for it) get in touch with Leonard at BaitJunkys, he has a friend selling several used production machines.
  2. Do you want a hand injection pot system, or do you want an injection machine? For what it's worth an injection machine will run you $20,000 + and the molds will run $5,000 and up each depending on complexity and design. They DO NOT operate with our small hand molds.
  3. No, I completely cook the plastic in the microwave (bring it to 350) before it goes in the pot. mix colour, flake and salt and dump it in the pot. I am not using Ultramold's PID's to control it, using different ones. Mine will vary about 10 - 15 degrees for the first 10 minutes I get plastic in it and settles to keep it within a few degrees of the setting.
  4. Like I posted above. I am running a pair of the large SS pot setups. I cook in a microwave initially and transfer to the pots. Takes WAY too long to cook in the pots for me. Within 20 minutes I can have a gallon ready to shoot, with 5 minutes to go on the initial heating I preheat the pots (empty) to around 315* and transfer to the pots as soon as colour and flake are mixed, then I can get another gallon cooking immediately after. I have 2 setups so I don't have to wait for the pots to cool to change colours, I just swap them out and can have another colour going in as long as it takes to cook it.
  5. Use a microwave to cook the plastic initially and transfer to the pots once heated.
  6. Spike-It Motor Oil STD Dye
  7. Hey Rob, there are 3 types of "hobby" aluminum molds out there. 1 piece open pour, 2 piece hand pour and 2 piece injection. Just make sure you get a hand pour type and you should be good to go.
  8. thats all you can do with any product you sell.
  9. I just looked into this and he was a smart man, from what I can see he has multiple patent numbers on this. Utility and Design patents on the tail and Utility and Design patents on the different rate of fall deal. Crazy.
  10. It doesn't really matter, the person that files the patent thinks they invented something worth protecting, spend the money to have a patent attorney prep and file an application. If the USPTO agrees that its not infringing on an existing design etc then they approve it, if its a utility patent then they just have to keep up with the fees to maintain it. Doesn't much matter if you, me or anyone else agrees with it, it was approved and now he has a legal right to protect it.
  11. The fun part is you can call BS all you want. Fact is that particular patent would be long expired, and the USPTO approved Ken's patent. It would be up to you to pay a lawyer and fight it, then if you lose you're on the hook for a whole lot more than just you're legal fees. Far as I am concerned he has spent the time and money filing for and maintaining the patent, i'd let him have it. You would be violating the patent whether you sold any or not.
  12. Most will carry a 10,000 bag minimum. I have even seen a couple with 25k and 50k minimum orders.
  13. What kind of volume are you after?
  14. Laminates that don't come out near perfect are almost always temp related. Make sure your temps are within 10 degrees of each other and aim for 300 - 315 degree mark and they should some out good.
  15. Les, That particular colour is VERY sensitive to being over heated. by the looks of it through a computer monitor I would have to say you are over heating it. What is the actual temp you are shooting at......not a guess, I need to know what the exact temp is.....if you can't answer that then you need a thermometer to verify and make sure you aren't getting it too hot.
  16. hmmmmmm, funny, last I checked he was using Rex Engineering motors (not dayton) and they can be had at McMaster Carr.
  17. I would start with Spike It's green pumpkin 109 personally, add a touch of watermelon 101 to it to get it a shade greener.
  18. There isn't a plastisol out there that is free of plasticizer, it's kind of how they make the PVC soft.
  19. Southland Bait Manufacturing - 910-292-2067 Give them a call.
  20. Setup fees are just plain high and the minimum orders are just as high. honestly might as well order from what you have found.
  21. Using Spike-It's SB Coat and VPI paint you don't need to use a sealer, spray it on and go. You can use the clear paint afterwards if you wish.
  22. Sorry, PVC Plastisol isn't a material you can just make at home, all of the raw components that go into it are bought in massive volumes and you must have very controlled settings to mix it in.
  23. They are almost Identical in most cases as they are both plasticizer. The main component is the same, BUT, softener has a few extras added to it to help maintain the proper chemical ratios when using it (as told to me by one of the larger plastic manufacturers)
  24. The thinner that Spike It sells for the paint.
