  1. Saltwater don't seem to bother plastic at all. The thing about fishing in saltwater is that most of the fish have teeth. IMO nothing will hold up to Blues. lol I tied Three different Saltwater plastics and found all of then lack good action. I use MF 464 50/ reg. and 50/ saltwater. Tough baits with real good action. Your med/soft should work fine. It all in how it holds up to teeth bites.
  2. I tried LC saltwater, Do-it saltwater and Spite it saltwater. Then I got MF 464 50 reg./ 50 saltwater. Great stuff. Tough with real good action. Had a guy catch three Red fish on it before he had to replace the bait. Give it a try you will like it.
  3. Black, white, watermelon, green pumpkin, Carolina pumpkin, Yellow chart., green chart., clear red (for red tails), blue. Powders copper , purple and pearl white
  4. LC makes a Lumina copper power. This is the color for the top. Very strong stuff In 6 oz. I use 5 small flat tip pocket screw driver. Sorry about don't a anything else that small.to measure it. small copper flake and med. Black flake. Watch the power must be added to cold plastic and mixed real well. Bottom 3 drops LC white, two measures of Pearl white power LC also 6 oz.( makes a great fish belly white color) Med black flake. BTW saltwater fish love copper and black flake.
  5. Hmm maybe it's the same thing. but you maybe get by using any deep fat fryer. . Don't know just trying to help.
  6. Not 100% sure. But I think you can use a Fry daddy.
  7. From what I have read on this site, which I have never tried. You can use a clay model to use in pop or dwp (Duran's water putty). Just don't bake the clay. But from what I understand you loss the model. trying to get it out. Yesterday I took a 3 1/2" swim bait mold that I got from Lure craft . Nice bait with 1/4" eyes. Poured 15 baits in clear plastic. Cut the heads off. Left me a 2 7/8" bait that I could put a jig head on. Sure you can just use it on a jig head with the head, but I wanted a flat front on the bait. Got a flat bottom plastic bowl from the dollar store, well for a dollar. Super glued the baits on the bottom of the bowl. They were open poured baits , so I glued the flat side down on the bottom of the bowl. Mixed the DWP( you can use Plaster of Paris(pop) if you want. I like DWP better) with water and poured over the baits. It sets up In a two hours because of the size. Take it out of bowl. Make sure it's setup good and remove the models. I let it dry for a week clean it up, sand it and then seal it. When it's done I'll have a real nice mold that I can pour a lot of baits at one time. For what 10 bucks.
  8. Sorry the clay is to make the master or model out of. Just so you know Hard model needs a soft mold. A soft model needs a hard mold. All that has to do with is getting the model back out of the mold. If your going to make your own mold, it all starts with the model
  9. First welcome to the site. If you want to make your own molds. Just go to Wal-Mart, they sell the oven bake clay. If your good with clay and somewhat of a artist. Your way ahead of me when I started. Read every thing you can on this site. Go to you tube and watch every video you can find. You have a lot to learn and the more you learn the more money you will spend. Good luck and have fun. BTW I have made over a dozen molds and only two caught any fish. The rest I dumped in the thrash.
  10. I'm 59 and I do remember them. So somewhere in that time line. Middle to later 1960's ? I think is when they came out. Not sure
  11. The tails do look like knives. But it seems you could cut metal to get that shape. Coat it with worm oil and dip a few times to build up the plastic, then pull the metal out. The heads seem a little different... almost looks like it's cut apart then put back together and dipped a few more times. Not for sure but it looks cool.
  12. Do I understand you right? There is no mold? Then how do you pour it?
  13. Very nice looking bait. Sometimes simple is better. Thank you for the post.
  14. All my molds are open pour. I do ok with bigger baits. Not so much with small baits. Always seem to over pour or the baits are missing parts. Just not that good at hand pouring. Was going to try a injection mold for small baits for crappie or specks as they call them down here in Florida. I do have a 2" curl tail grub mold which I pour fairly well and my friends do catch fish on those. Just wondering If you were to pick a mold to start pouring for crappie. Which mold would you pick? I have looked at Bears, BT and Jacobs. I just don't know where to start. Thank you for your time.
  15. I use MF 464 plastic 50 reg./ 50 saltwater. Good stuff; tough bait with good action. I use LC, LW and MF colors and flakes. So I know it works to mix and match. You will find some colors are weaker.. LC is a stronger color then say LW. But LW has some great colors .Nice baits btw
  16. Those are some wild looking baits.
  17. Same here Wally world 900w $40.00 has a turn table. Heats faster and more evenly.
  18. What Bassinfool said x2. I'll add that I have 2 fluke molds by LC, had the same trouble with the tail having voids in them. 8 baits and maybe 5 would come out sometimes less. I pour at 340f, very small stream, start at the head. I fill the whole body of the bait. Then push forward slowly to the tail. A lot of the time the plastic will run down hill from the tail back into the body of the bait. If the body is full it can't do that as easily. Just takes time to learn how to fill them. With the small forked tail you need to get real good at trimming. lol But the fish love them flukes.
  19. Thx everybody for your reply. This isn't the first time I have used this stuff. Something like the fourth or fifth time. I always put my color in cold plastic and stir it up real good. I heat until almost done and then add flake stir and pour or heat for 10 or 15 sec. if needed. I know this is a flake or whatever, but never had trouble with it before. Two weeks ago I used it and had to thrown out two baits because of black spots in them. I only use it in two baits I make. So I'll just find something else to use. Maybe silver pearl powder and some .008 flake. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who uses it. To watch it as it gets old.
  20. If anybody has any Minnow Silver LC, with any age on it you may want to thrown it out. Mines was about a year old. I went to heat it in the microwave and it started a fire. I had shake it well,. stirred it well into the cold Plastisol. Set the microwave for one min. turn it on and started setting things up to pour. I saw out of the corner of my eye A light inside the microwave. Whatever base they use to suspend that flake it had turned almost to like a glue. The flake had caked itself to the bottom of my cup. I dumped the 3/4 cup of Plastisol out but the stuff was burned to the bottom. So like a dummy Tired washing it out Hot glass hot water = no more cup. No one got hurt. So I'm out a cup and 3/4 cup Plastisol. Guess I'll try .008 sliver to get what I want in a bait. Won't use that stuff again.
  21. It's kind of an unusual looking bait. Just wondering how the action on the bait and the big one, does it catch fish.
  22. I have the LC 5x886. 3 1/2 " with hook slot and 1/4 " eyes. Pick up some y. char. 3d eyes. So far this bait has got 3 Bass one shorty two around 4 lb. 3 Red fish two rats an one 21". Easy to pour. I love it because it caught fish lol
  23. Try adding flake just before you pour. If it comes out right then it's the flake. Get some LC works real good.
  24. That's one good looking bait! Is that a custom Bait?
