  1. On my workbench which is carpeted, I have a 18" x 18" Glaze ceramic tile works very good and plastic don't stick to it. Not as cold steel and was only $2.50 at lowe's.
  2. Heavy JRS-7-48. Also got the stuff to try belly spins. Got the minnow head mold as well. Should be fun.
  3. Said I would post back about how things came out. I'm passing on offshore jigs for now. Ask the people who asking me about the jig and they never got back to me. So I picked up a ball head mold for inshore saltwater. That I wanted. 4 1/8 and 3 1/4. cavities. That will get a good workout. Maybe next year I'll get the flutter mold.
  4. Icehouse!! I want a beer that works and not leave me with a hangover.
  5. I hate mono. on jigs. But that's just me. I have had it break on me to many times. I use 210 denier flat waxed nylon or big fly thread 400 denier. I use a whip finisher to make the knot. 3 to 4 " is not to hard to find 6" is rare. Try Barlow's you can ask about their bucktails.
  6. If when you put your hot jig in the powder paint and it melts to gloss right away it's way to hot. It should be covered with paint, but dull looking. I use a heat gun in a vise so it's pointing up. I heat it on high and the jig very close to the heat. Drip in the paint and finish melting as far away from heat as possible. I cure mine at 325 for 30 mins. Also helps if you do all the same size at the same time. So all the 1/4 oz. and then move on to the next size. If you mix sizes you will make more mistakes in heating. If you end up with voids in the paint return to the heat to gloss over then take a small paint brush and tap paint on the light spot. It will fill it in.
  7. Same thing colorant/ powder in cold plastic. If it's a new color you can do it in cold, just remember it will be lighter when it turns over. Always write down how many drops it takes to get that color again. I always put glitter in when it's ready to pour. Some glitter like LC minnow silver don't like being microwaved. Oh yeah BTW write down where you got the color from. colorant from different vendors are not the same.
  8. I tried four plastisol before I found one I liked. Lurecraft hard packed too much. Hated lurework Smelled so bad the wife wouldn't come out in the garage when I was pouring. Plus way too much bubbles. Good price. Did do-it first few pours I loved it. But the whole stuff in a box didn't work real well in humid florida. As the box got moisture in the box, which in turn made the pours very inconsistent. The I tired MF 464. No bubbles at all. Totally consistent on every pour. Kind of a sweet smell. Does not like reheating so much. Try a few in small amounts until you find something you like. You will find things you like and dislike in all of them. Time for me to buy some more. Think I will try baitjunkie in one gallon. Just to see how I like it. If not I'll back to MF. Hope this helps.
  9. It's all in what you will be fishing for. Freshwater or saltwater.
  10. As far as the whole circle hook rule it's only for natural /live/ dead bait. What I understand anyway. I looked at the flutter jig before, now might need to look at that closer. With the Lee pot not being a good choice for pouring 2-4 oz. I would have to get a lot better using a ladle or buy a RCBS. I got a post on a local forum about this. A few people use the jigs I make.i'll Wait and see what they say. But will come back and post the out come. Thank you guys for your help.
  11. BLT is that the do-it mold? The 4 0z. it said 8/0 did the 5/0 fit or did you mod it? As far as how big I'm not sure. I don't fish the big blue. Maybe that mold will do. Do you use EC 635 or something else? Thank you for your help with this.
  12. Living in Florida Off shore fishing is a big thing. I have people asking me if I will make big jig heads. I don't fish off shore myself, so I have no idea what weight or hook size to get. I was looking at the Do- it Ultra minnow SHR-3-L goes up to 4 oz. and 8/0 hook. Don't think I can use my Lee 10 lb pot for this. There is also the SHR-3-568 which is even bigger. Any help would be great.
  13. I made this when I first started pp jigs. I would get too much paint on the jig and hanging it by the hook would get cone heads. Don't use it anymore. Learned how not to get too much paint on the jigs.
  14. I have two types of molds that the sprue is in a different place. Round head the sprue is on the tip/ nose. I remove the sprue by holding the sprue with a pair of wire cutters. and holding the jig head. I rock the sprue side to side. Easy to do. no holes in the body of the jig. Then there is the kind of molds that have the sprue on the side of the jig near the tip. These are the pains to do. I still use a wire cutter to hold the sprue and rock the jig head front to back. once it starts to get loose I twist the sprue. It also works better if you hold the sprue closer to the jig head. Then I use a half round bastard file (learned this from the smart and helpful Cadman awhile back) to smooth it out. I also have a small craft file for fine smoothing.
  15. Guess no one has this mold lol Maybe why it's only $40.00 lol
  16. http://www.basstackle.com/2_Grub_mold_p/grubmold2inch.htm If so how does it shoot and have you had any luck with it. The reason I ask is I have 2 open pour molds, one from MF a 2" that has caught a lot of fish. Sweet and salt water. I also have a 3" from LC which has never caught a fish. Thank you for your help with this.
  17. Flux your lead often. I flux once the lead is hot and ready to pour. if i add lead I flux again. If it dips I flux again. I have a small long handle spoon That I use to clean dross away from the hole. If you haven't been doing this. Empty the pot and start over with it clean.
  18. BTW LC sells it. Kind of cool stuff.
  19. Yeah I have a 10# pot , which is only like two years old. I sent out to lee under warranty. They rebuild it for free. They had changed some of the parts. First thing was I don't know if it's the element or the thermostat, but it heats a lot hotter then the older ones. I set mine around 5 and it works better.
  20. http://www.lurecraft.com/Plastic-Mold-869/productinfo/5X869/ This bait has caught Three reds two rats and a slot. A 17 # AJ. Last but not least 10.5# LM Bass. It is a very easy mold to pour. Only cost $12.55 It is a open pour silicone mold. MF has a 2.5" shad Caught lots of fish. Flatties, Sea trout crappies and small LM Bass. Only $9.95 It's a hard poly. mold Not as easy to pour. Need to pour it thin and slow. So it will fill with out voids. But you can fish it anyway you want Slow, fast and that tail will swim. Hope that helps.
  21. Same thing happen to me a long time ago. That and they couldn't tell me if a color bleeds or not. I use spike-it/ lureworks. Colors are a little weaker (takes more drops) but you know what you're getting.
  22. I stopped using pop a long time ago. I use D.W.P. , I just like the way the mold comes out. Did get mold on the bottom of one. I think it was the way I let it dry. I let mine dry for a week before before I seal it. The mold was thick and I never turned it over. Must have been moisture on the bottom. Never did seal the bottom but there is still black spots on the bottom. That was over a year ago.
  23. I use 5 drops LC white and 1/2 smidgen of pearl white to 6 oz. Makes a great fish belly.or white bait.
