  1. I felt like I was watching a real bad puppet show, but I couldn't stop watching it! Seriously though, I've never fished those kinds of jigs and it was very cool to see them in action. Thanks, David
  2. You may want to checkout Realistic Wraps as an alternative to painting. https://m.facebook.com/RealisticWraps/
  3. Depending on what top coat you use, you might run into issues. When I use D2T in lower temps, I warm it up with a hair dryer before squeezing into the mixing cup.
  4. Very impressive! I'd love to see a video of your duplicator duplicating someday. I'm amazed at what y'all accomplish! David
  5. Well said! (And I think people pay it forward as well which is what makes TU such a great community.)
  6. Curt: Thanks for getting the site back up! Hackers suck. David
  7. Poured some lead so I could do some more testing and learning.
  8. While I can navigate the site, I am unable to view any content. I suspect the site Admin is already aware of this, but wanted to post just in case. good luck! David
  9. Just able to get back to this project last night. (Father in law passed away.). Yes, I am using a fluid bed and I believe you are probably right about overheating the jig. I was heating them in the oven at 350. Last night, I was testing some new powder paints from Prismatic and I baked them at 325 and the powder seemed to flow better. Gonna play around some more this afternoon and work on my processes and techniques based upon the great info y'all have been willing to share. David
  10. Yikes! Much more difficult than I was hoping. I was working with 3 and 4 oz jig heads which made things a little tedious. Gonna need to spend more time and take care of some basics before the next attempt. It was ugly!
  11. I want to thank everyone for the very helpful information and the pictures showing the results of using this method. Got sometime right now so I'm gonna go practice and experiment. I'll definitely post some pics whether they're good, bad or ugly results. thanks David
  12. Apdriver, appreciate the info and would definitely like to see pics of what you've been able to accomplish. I'm gonna try some brush tapping tomorrow.
  13. I've come across a few posts related to powder coating where "tapping" powder paint onto jigs is a method used to apply multiple colors onto a jig. I've looked for more details about the methods of tapping, but didn't find much. I took an old pill bottle and poked holes in a few different ways, but found that I couldn't achieve reasonably precise results. For example, if I was trying to apply a color to the top of a jig, powder would make its way to the side or sides of it. I'm also trying to achieve bars and stripes on larger salt water jigs. Appreciate any and all help! thanks, David
  14. KBS has a customer referral program. If you use the link below, you'll get a 15% discount which lowers the cost to about $17. In the interest of full disclosure, I get a $10 off credit. http://kbscoatings.refr.cc/S5LZGPP David
  15. Yes, I bought and have used the aerosol version. Here's the link to my experience so far. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/32103-kbs-diamond-clear-coat-aerosol-can-update/#entry262435
  16. Alex's, aka Realistic Wraps, wraps are very cool and very easy to apply to lures. For more info, go to http://www.realisticwraps.com/
  17. I meant PITA as in pain in the a$$. Give it a try and let us know how it works. David
  18. It was a PIA and all I caught on them was catfish. Was targeting Stripers.
  19. Similar to Chuck, but I filled them up and then sealed the holes with bondo. I wouldn't do it again, but it worked.
  20. KBS released the KBS Diamond clearcoat in the aerosol can last week and I recieved my order on Wednesday. The reason I am trying this product is to see how well it works as the seal coat on wooden lures. I'm a home builder and have very little experience making wood lures. I buy kits from Salty's. The appeal for the aerosol can product was the ability to easily spray on KBS for the seal coat rather brush it or something like Solarez on and then have sand out my screw ups and other imperfections. So far, I like it. As expected, I can easily lay down smooth coats of KBS. The only issue I encountered was that I got some bubbles on two of the 12 coats that I sprayed. I'm not sure why, but in both case, it was on the first coat. I sprayed three coats on each lure and only sanded between coats on those that had bubbles. I waited about an hour between coats. They came out great! The coating was super clear and glossy and I think, adequately thick enough. After 24 hours, I sanded them with 150 and primers them with Wicked white opaque. Here's some pics showing them in the three stages. I'll follow up with additional info as work on these lures progresses. David
  21. Super Ron - think the link below to another post helps answer part of your question related to quality. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/28966-blank-crankbait-body-links/page-4#entry261491 Things that I value when assessing quality include: Durability - does the lure break under normal use more frequently than expected How well the lure swims - I've run into issues with ones I've ordered directly from China. I like buying from vendors that have tested and provide detailed info about the lure with different topcoats, split rings, etc. Prep worked needed - how much prep work is required prior to painting; less is more Blemishes - they just piss me off These are just my opinions though and others I'm sure have different experiences points of view. David
  22. I've purchased from Predator, GetBit and Dinger and would recommend all three for the following reasons: 1. Quality blanks 2. Fast shipping 3. Responsiveness to product questions I use an iPad and I haven't had any issues with any of these vendors websites, especially related to product info and viewing the lures. I know kids use their phones for everything these days, but checking out lure blanks, I got view them on something bigger. Also, I buy from all three because none of them carry all the blanks I use or want. As others have recommended, buy a few at first and don't be afraid to ask them questions before you buy. I'm pretty sure they all want you to be a satisfied customer and purchase many more of their products. David
  23. KBS notified me today that the aerosol version was now available. I placed my order today along with 4oz can to test out brushing on the product as well. Will post up as soon as I have tried it out. David
  24. I was unable to order the KBS Diamond Clear aerosol so I contacted KBS and this is the response I received. "Thank you for contacting the KBS Coatings. Our goal is to give you the best possible KBS experience that exceeds your expectations. I am sorry for the confusion. DiamondFinish Clear in the Aerosol will be available within a few weeks and we will send out an email as soon as it is available." I'll order some up once it's available. David
