    Bondo

I have used the stuff in restoration uses. It works well when it is in a substantial mass. I try to back cut any recess that it goes into to help it stay in place if moisture get behind it.Thin coats often have an adhesion issue and will chip out. It's also a bit thick to be using as a skim coat. That is my experience anyway. Keith
  2. I use some from lurepartsonline.com The length is 3/4" not sure what that equates to in metric.I drill them diagonally if the bait is narrow. I doesn't seem to affect the action too much.
  3. Very fun and creative yet it has a good contrast and should still attract fish!
  4. I like to use my daughter's fingernail polish. You'd be amazed at how many colors, sizes. I especially like one that is a transparent glitter in a clear finish. I haven't had any issues with bonding and D2T makes a good hard topcoat. Just watch the brush marks!
  5. Mark, Yes it does. With the grain along the short axis there is more end grain along the long axis. Even with the through wire and epoxy it is much more likely to break. The end grain on the top and bottom also will give you more problems sanding and painting. Just the nature of wood. Keith
  6. Stonepointer, You might get better feedback on the wire bait side.

    Pike Swimbait

Very Nice! What did you use to make the tail?
  8. I made one of these recently. It cast great! It cast so well in fact that it broke the line mid cast and kept on going. I had to walk around the lake to look for it. I got lucky, the wind was strong and found it! Anyway I had the same issue as ROWINGADUBAY, it would not shift from side to side until you got to pretty high speeds. Too fast for this weather. other than that the lip makes it swim great!
  9. let us know how it works. I ordered my airbrush this weekend and plan to make some stencils this way. I'm real curious about the heat deforming the pattern.
  10. I think bsgorilla is onto it. Using a computer program or even freehand. Draw your stencil on both sides of the transparent stencil material while it is still flat then take each side to the former. It would be just a matter of using a reference point, like the nose or tail, on each side. Vacuum left, vacuum right, cut each side, and viola, matching stencils!
  11. I'd like to hear some more on this. I had one fall out today just as I was tieing it on. I've tried a few things, sanding the lip, drilling a hole in it. But the best I have found is to drill a hole into the chin through the wood and lip and back into the the wood. I then epoxy in a pin or nail. I usually only do this when I have a problem and I usually only have a problem on very small cranks ( the one today was only 1 1/2" long, or when I don't get a good seal and water gets in to loosen the glue joint. I've only recently started using DT2, Hoping that will help. Thanks TU

    Fatfingers Rocketshad

Incredible Fatfingers, how did you get that gill plate look?
  13. I like the point that these things started out as an idea of some craftsman. He then refined his craft into a process and decided to make it into a business. It's all backed by the search for something unique. Kind of like we all do. They look awesome and I'm sure will work well at both selling lures and catching fish. I still like to drill a hole paint the recess and fill with 5 minute epoxy. Whichever, enjoy the process!!

    Rattles

I agree Diemai's rig is great. He uses a brass tube that he cuts and bends over the ends. I use a rattle designed for inside of jig skirts from lurepartsonline.com They are about 3/4" long with a BB plug on one end. They are plastic so when I drill them into the bait I epoxy them in and can sand down the attachment plug. I have to drill them diagonally so that they don't stick out the sides. It takes very little action to get a good rattle and the closer to the sides the less dampening there is.

    Body Roll

Mel, In the bottom right of where you are posting is the More Reply Options buttons. A new screen pops up and on the bottom left is the Choose Files button. You should be able to click on that and Browse to your video file. Good luck
  19. The good news is you can use it for jigs, hangers, and such around the shop!
  20. I also saw a tutorial, I think here on TU, on how to make a mold so you can pour your own.

    Body Roll

Very interesting. Would a dorsal fin help prevent the roll or would it just inhibit the S action?
  22. Very handy. Do you coat them in place or hold on to them in a clamp then clip them in.

    Threadfin shad

I know your pain! I'm thinking of investing in a lure retriever, for just such and emergency!
