Me too biglures. I just couldn't resist. They really look good. what did you use to get that back pattern.
  4. I think we are all right BobP. That is what gives this hobby its allure. Catch the fisherman not just the fish. I think they are some of the coolest lures on here, I just think the eye on the butt is silly. Those that go for the carved lures do so for their own pleasure of overcoming a challenge while others see this lure pattern and ask themselves if they can do that too. Carve on or paint on gentlemen, enjoy the challenge .
  5. Gonna have a little fun with this. What is with the craw pattern craze? We paint crayfish patterns on the side of a fish? I get, the blanks are cheap or easy to make in a fish body. It is all the rage but come on, its still on the side of a fish. And craw dads, they swim backwards so why are you wasting a pair of 3D eyes on it's butt? Their eyes are on the other end! At least dress the trailing hook to look like pincers or antenna. Don't get me wrong some of theses things are incredible works of art. And most of the people on here are pretty impressive. So why can't we come up with a body that looks like a craw? Do we need to find a blank that at least looks like a craw? Do they even catch fish differently or better? kajay

    Vision 110

    Might catch a fisherman!
  9. Nice looking site Cougar, I've always liked your work.
  10. I've never airbrushed outside But I have painted a lot of house trim and such in temps down to zero. As a general rule, surface and material temps are what's important. 50 degrees is about the bottom. Things like keeping your blanks and paints inside are smart moves. Heat drying, which most people do at all temps, is what keeps the paint warm when is at its most vulnerable... when is thin. As long as it dries before it freezes you should be alright. Best of luck to you outdoor air brushers, I like to stay inside for those sub zero days. Been a nice winter so far!

That thing is loaded with knick-knacks. I especially like the dropped propeller. How does it work.

I very much like this one! well done
  13. That is awesome FroggAddict! I might have to get into that RTV stuff. Is it a rigid mold or flexible?
  14. I like the concept. Maybe you need different settings on the printer. What type of paper are you using? Are you using photo eyes or just making circles on a graphic software?

    Naked bait supreme

Thanks. I plan on doing some more. I gave this one to a friend.
  17. It is a common phrase in those topics because that is the material you are looking for. It is sold as trim boards in most DIY stores and lumber yards. I reccomend the original AZEK namebrand. Some of the knock offs have voids in them that don't affect use as exterior trim but would not benifit you on a crankbait as you whittled it away. Happy searching.
  18. Use "Trim Boards" it takes you to where you want to be.

    Today

You would have had to put hook protectors on them.
  20. Minwax makes a wood hardener that is used for restoration purposes. It is as thin as water and penatrates well. It take a good overnite drying session and is messy and toxic. Best used as a dip rather than a brush on. Not sure what it is made of.
  21. Another step I take on the diving lip is to score the face of it with a knife. This gives the glue somthing to bite onto. I have had them slip out on me. Be carefull where you score it, make sure that your cuts will be hidden by the lure body. I often cut a dovetail slot in the base of the lip that helps ancor it in as well. In some cases I have even glued a small pin through the lip and into the wood. But yes, get the 5 minute for this, it's a pain to hold the lip in place for 30 minutes while it sets.

    Thank you all so much.

    Carved craw

Never considered the mold idea. I might have to look into that. Got to be careful though it is "inspired" by a Rebel lure. Thanks everyone.

    Butterfly

Great looking! Where are the hook hangers and tow point?

    Carved craw

Losing this one in the rocks will kill me! Hand carved. Rattle can black (undercoat) green, red and gold. Dots with a paint pen. It has more of a metallic look in person. Clear acrylic topcoat. No D2T available here.
