Hello, I visited your site awhile back looking at the painting on wooden lures. I might be getting back into it for a hobby do you know of any video (youtube)of a quality duplicator for carving the wood but not a lathe.

      thank you

If you use the search engine it will take you to several posts that this topic was mentioned. You may also want to try the Homebrew Tools section in the forums

Very impressive. My son likes to work on lures with me too. I'm sure your Dad is quite pleased.

Lookin good, lets see a close up of those scales.

    Replica of Poe's RC3

Looks a lot better than my first attempt and it caught fish! I remember that first winter of building baits and getting really anxious about getting them in the water. That part doesn't get any better, I'm afraid.

Now that's an eye catcher! Hopefully a fish catcher too.
  7. I love this site. Thank you Deiter.
  8. Is there anything that will clean the needle or syringe, or is it a one time shot?

    Old School

Very fine work RayburnGuy. I like the effect. I understand the desire for a seamless look on the stripes. Maybe next time a few strips on layout lines would be easier. Use the long spine to cover the joints of the short lines. I like it!

    crawlerharness

That looks interesting. How do you rig and fish it?
  11. Make sure that you have your Tax ID number available. They often have people going around checking vendors in these affairs. Good Luck!!
  12. You can also buy hardware for a bottle opener and cork screw from Rockler. It needs a large lure blank but it's a novel idea for a gift.
  13. Likewise all! Enjoy your day.
  14. You'll love this place. So many different people and points of view. Yet politeness abounds. Welcome to TU.

    No paint 2

Another version of the no paint. This one is Purpleheart, Walnut and a Maple belly.

    Hinged frog

This has a great still presentation, just the head and nose out of the water. Legs dangle behind and kick back on the retrieve. Worked pretty good until the water got into the hinge joint and one of the legs flew across the pond. The trebble was a lakeside repair.

    Hinge hook copy

This was just a test of my engineering skills, not paining. The hook is supposed to be weedless as it runs then hinges up as the fish hits it.

    No paint 1

Here is something new I am toying with. Maple Walnut and Beech and D2T. Not as buoyant but sure has some cool color and grain patterns.

    My first big swim bait

Thanks to many of you in the forums. I learned enough to make this thing swim like a dream. At 7" long it makes a big splash in a bass pond!

Very nice! Do you have a recipe for adding the fur?
  22. HAHA that is funny ! subsailer618. A little levity never hurt any fisherman! Ravenlures, Go with the other advice above, toss the knots. They are harder to work around It's not like you are leaving them exposed for an artistic accent. But I guess that depends on how expensive the wood is and how hard it is to come by. I wouldn't want anything bigger that a 1/4" hole to fill. the filler would change the buoyancy and balance of the lure.
  23. Glad to have you on Ryan. I love the folk art style of your paint jobs. Quite a bit of talent and patience have produced some fine lures. I've noticed all of your lips are metal too. What material are you using and do you form them yourself?
  24. I've done this to a couple of lures. They are easy to make and you can add them to a lot of different baits. One issue I have had is they tail floating too much because of the extra weight at the front. As long as it keeps moving it swims really nice with a good tail wag. I've used both spinner blades as well as props. The props work well on smaller baits for summer bass. I tried another variation of this where, instead of an attachable wire, beads and spinner, I used an extended long tow point with the beads and spinner permanently attached. By having a rigid connection it really increased the vibration of the lure on retrieve. I'd post a picture but it is in a tree at the lake.
