  1. Is createx an oiled based paint?
  2. I actually have a hobby lobby close and my wife say she has the 40% off coupon. What paints do they carry that work in airbrushes that also work well for cranks?
  3. I'm brand new to this. Never airbrushed a Bait in my life LOL! I just looked up VPI on the Spike it page. Looks like I can just get the clear and mix it with the colorant I already have for my plastics? If what I think I'm reading is correct that will make this much easier to get into! Thanks!
  4. I'm looking to get into airbrushing. I've been making baits for along time. I started out with making jigs in my teens, than moved on to spinnerbaits and soft plastics. I've been looking at getting into airbrushing, more so for painting soft plastic swimbaits but I've been wanting to start painting cranks too. I have a budget of about $300-$400 to get setup with an airbrush (possibly compressor?) and paint. Not really sure where to start with looking at airbrushes. I have a regular air compressor (5 gallon, 150 PSI limit) and I assume I could regulate the pressure low enough that it would work for this application as well. Obviously it would be overkill but If it will work it will save me from having to buy another. I would like to just get a good airbrush. I know I'm going to stick with this as it will have lots of uses in lure making. No point in getting a cheap piece of junk IMO. Do I need multiple air brushes or is there one good one that will cover most situations? I've seen Paasche and Iwata. Are there other brands to look at as well? which it better? What is the difference between single and dual action? Ventilation is another concern. I work in the garage. I'll have no problem building a paint box that vents outside. I would probably build a wooden box with a dryer vent and an old bathroom exhaust fan. I'm open to suggestions in all areas. I've never used an airbrush but I've watched hours worth of YouTube videos. and It looks like a lot of fun! Thanks
  5. Thanks for posting this vid Carolina Fisher! I watched al of them and now I am buying myself airbrush equipment and paint etc.! The Lureworks Paint used in the videos, Does it have to be sealed to keep it from washing off in the water? or will it stay on a baits long enough to last at least a few fish before wearing off? I make a killer swim bait but they are so soft that they usually only last for 2-3 fish. Since they only last this long I don't see the point of taking the time to go into great detail on them. I'd like to maybe just accent the tails or maybe add a lateral line or maybe just the back. I also think that dipping them to seal the paint would takeaway from the action they already have. Will the paint last long enough without dipping? Thanks
  6. http://pouryourownworms.com/Floating-Additive-1-quart-FA32-Quart.htm there you go. The only downside to using it is that it is white. So obviously your can't get clear baits when using it and you have to use more colorant to get the same color as you would without it. It also makes the plastic more firm and less flexible.
  7. I'll add a floating additive to the plastics when making frogs and they will float a 3/0 EWG Hook
  8. I cook in 2 cup measuring cups so usually 2 cups of each color. I'll have to try manually injecting both colors. I can just as easily remove the piece on the twin jector that connects both handles.
  9. I tried that and it really didn't make much difference. Probably doesn't help that I pour out in my unheated garage and it's winter. I guess I should just make the move to presto pots
  10. That's the problem...I can't keep the heat up. The cups cool to quickly. Then after reheating the temps are not the same.
  11. I've been having some issues shooting laminates using Bass Tackles Twinjector. I can't get seem to get both colors of plastic the same temperature. I cook my plastic in the microwave using measuring cups. I might be able to cook the plastics together at the same time and then I might get one good shot but I am unable to maintain the temperatures consistently. I'm thinking of setting up with presto pots. I would need two of them obviously. My problem with that is I would like to find an option that hold less volume of plastic. are there smaller electric pots with temp control? any other tips to getting the plastic to be at equal temps?
  12. Thanks for the email addy! I sent them one requesting pricing also! Thanks
  13. I have also experienced scratching on the injector piston. I have several injectors so I also use only one of them for plastic with bead media. I have shot hundred of baits so far and even though the piston is scratched I haven't experienced and significant negative effects on its ability to shoot a bait. There will be a small amount of plastic build up inside the injector above the piston after a few hours of use but its no problem to open it up and clean it out once in a while.
  14. Yeah I haven't even had a chance to get them wet yet.
  15. I've had some ideas over the years and I revisited them and tried some new things today. I like the results and I think these will be real fish catchers. Looking for some feedback. I'm also curious if the jigs with the spinner blades are "too close" to Road Runners jigs If I ever decide to try selling these. What do you think?
  16. I'm looking to possibly purchase this mold. But I would like to see the finished product before making the purchase. Any one here make these jig heads? I want to see how well they pair up with my 2.5 inch swimbaits. I'd like to buy one of each size from someone if possible. Thanks
  17. I just bought another 5 gallons of plastic. Jacobs baits has a 5 gallon bucket for $99 but they are out of regular soft which is what I usually buy so I got Super Soft instead. Question is: how much hardener do you add to super soft to get the same firmness as Regular Soft? Also...I'm using MF plastic. Thanks
  18. Looking for a craw tube mold like the ones pictured here. I am aware of the Caney Creek mold but there's something about it I just don't like. Do any of the other mold companies make one similar? Thanks
  19. I have the 631, 643 and 639 swimbait molds from BT. They all have a thicker body than the Keitec swimbaits
  20. I called and talked to MF this morning to ask about the 5.0. This is what he told me. He said it was clearer, cooked quicker, was about the same firmness as the regular formula, possibly slightly more flexible and less expensive. All the additives (heat stabilizer, softener, colorant etc.) used with the regular formula will be compatible with the new formula as well. Bubbles and settling shouldn't be an issue either just like the regular formula. Also sounds like all these differences are marginal. the biggest advantage of the 5.0 over the regular formula is the cost is lower. I plan to order a gallon to test myself before making my next 5 gallon order.
  21. I agree with ipt. your plastic formula is more important. all the stickbait molds are so close.
  22. I got the email too. There are a lot of molds I have my eyes on!
  23. Any body use MF 5.0 plastic yet? What is the difference between it and the regular plastic? I am nearly out of plastic and was about to order another 5 gallons of regular soft from them but they are out of stock and I saw this stuff. Thanks
