I take a section of plastic shelving and use that on a desk for light work. My legs, knees and butt bother me too much to sit for extended periods.
Maybe that's why I prefer shore fishing. It kills me to sit in my friend's Jon boat.

Ok, in my surfing the net for lures for Jacks, Ladyfish and Roosters I came across a site that talked about removing the lips from floating Rapalas for Jacks. Anybody ever tried this? I'm thinking of KO's.

Good ideas Dieter and I can test on Muskie first. :-)
Here's the two lures I was talking about:

PS: wish those Abu travel rods were sold here in the US
Hey Dieter started fishing this year yet?
I've seen references to guys in Florida using weighted Spooks for what I want to do. Loses most of the walk the dog action but more splashing. Lucky 13's and Bass Orenos might work too. Bass Oreno always was one of my favorites.
The Roberts Peppy and Surface Tension lures might work. Both come in a down sized 3/4 oz version as do a couple of striper poppers. In fact the Peppy and ST might make nice pike lures. I'm going to get a couple and try them on Muskie this summer.
If spinners cast better they'd probably work too.

I'm looking for a lure type that will stay surface or a foot down that can be moved fast for saltwater. Ideally should be around 5/8 to 1 oz and as small as possible. I saw guys talking about adding shot to a Zara Spook. What about the OSP KOs or the MegaBass Mega Pop KOs? Since this will be for light surf I need a good casting lure also.
Dieter's pipe lures work too but I'm looking for another idea also.
thanks in advance.

You're probably right about the sand I should make a couple more small ones. The smaller ones don't seem to splash and walk as well though, probably because of the rolling waves.
I can experiment on the Muskies this year and be ready for the next Mexico trip.

Very enjoyable trip! Wife rode horseback on the beach and I had a good time fishing.Food and weather were great and we shopped around a bit.
I don't think the problem was the lure since guys with the "killer" poppers weren't hitting them either. We'll find out in Nov-Dec when we go back down for 3 weeks. I need to make some up in the middle size tube also. The smallest tube would fill with sand when pulled up the beach after a cast. Maybe I should try the plugged end on that size like I was talking about.

Just got back from Cabo in Mexico. These had great action on the surface splashing and walking the dog. Unfortunately the fish weren't hitting surface lures. But I did get a lot of jacks and mackerel, most in the 1-6# range. Fun fishing especially when you're casting to schools of 100+ fish. :-)
Anybody know where these might be available in the US or Canada? I'm looking for a single barbless hook for spinners. VMC also makes one.

Interesting concept. I found this when I was looking at their Roosta Popper online.
Are there any other lures of this type available from other sources?

Good stuff, thanks for the link Dieter. I like a lot of the Polish sites (especially being of part Polish descent).
Have you ever tried using a wooden dowel plug in the front of the Asp lure? Wonder if it would keep it on the top easier and splash more?
bill
Thanks Dieter. That's exactly what I'm looking for, good casting and making a racket up on the surface. Roosterfish and Jacks like it fast and up on top.

I was looking at the Got-Chas. What I had seen said they were so-so as far as distance goes. I assume because the line tie is in the middle up top.
Also made up a hoochie inline buzz bait to try. :-)

We were down in San Jose Del Cabo last month. Most of the action I had was on small spoons, 1/2 oz Krocs and Champs. Never had a hit on bigger lures. I'm bringing a variety for next month's trip back down there. I hear the Rangers get a lot of hits but few hookups.
