  1. Painting KOs or repainting cranks that have been heavily used, I dip the whole bait, bill and all, for the first dip. It really helps clear up little scratches on the bill. (using GST concrete sealer) Second dip on, I dip only the painted parts. At that point, I don't see the need to build up a thicker coat on the bill.
  2. If you are powder coating, wrap a small piece of aluminum foil around it.
  3. Would it work to use cylindrical drop shot weights without the swivels? They could be cut to length and the do-it mold has lots of sizes.
  4. I don't think you could get any legal protection for a particular pattern or color. Look how many companies copied "sexy shad". If that were possible, Strike King would be taking everyone to court. Getting protection for your company name or maybe even the name of a color would be entirely different matter. But, I think it would have to be done before you could take legal action.
  5. I found a tiger stripe stencil at Hobby Lobby. It's bigger than my baits, so it ends up being more of a "jailbird" look than tiger stripe if I don't use the right part of the stencil. But it does look good either way.
  6. Since I started making lures, it's not nearly as painful to lose a lure anymore, even if it's one I built myself. Homebuilt lures cost less, and losing one is an opportunity to sit down an make more. I have done jigs, spinnerbaits, and buzz baits for a long time, and have so many I couldn't possibly use them all in 10 years. Started painting hard baits last year, so now I can start over stocking those too.
  7. I'm pretty new to painting myself, and will add that I'm having much better results with Createx Wicked colors than with their regular line. They seem to spray more evenly and at lower pressures.
