I ordered one of the 5 inch molds and have a question for those who have this mold. What do y'all do to seal up the tail once you remove the insert? Thanks in advance.
IMHO these are the colors I use a lot . Most of the lakes I fish are 3 ft or clearer . The clearest is about 12-14ft . I tend to stick with natural colors
1- green pumpkin
2- watermelon blue flake
3-smoke
4- smoke with gold halo flake and black flake "natural shad"
5-white
6- black
7 chartreuse black flake
Making baits is fun to do and you will have all kinds of ideas running through your head ,having more plastic lets you play . To Best of my knowledge no big box store sells the stuff we use to make worms ,I.e. Cabela's, bass pro shops
Oh no I never spilled any but I have lots of friends and your personal use doesn't stay personal when you got your friends asking you for bait . If you're starting out you're going to experiment a lot to get the hang of it . When I first started I bought a starter kit that came with the pint. I use that up in a couple hours and had to order another pint and then I used that up and then realize when I should be buying this by the gallon if not by 5 . More plastic you order the cheaper it is .
you can use a long dowel rod smaller than the diameter of your container to loosen up the hard packed stuff in the bottom and then just slowly stir it in. Try to avoid shaking the container all that does is invite air into your plastic.
Did you mix the plastic up in the jug?with all plastic it settles a little bit and usually have to scrape the bottom of the jug that you got your plastic in to get all the solids back up in it if you don't you'll end up with tacky plastic and really really soft baits
I use lurecraft silver minnow mixed with white to get a belly color it has micro fine silver flake in it . The mix in my humble opinion makes a good belly color
Because I have such a limited mold count I have used copper tees and Pipe to make a "sprue" combiner and use my twin injector pulse them actually came out pretty good
I'll be interested to know too . the plastic we use is the same type as most Manufacturers use for soft plastics with the exception of stuff like elaztech
I use my pro lam ( dual injecter)to laminate baits. But I don't see why you can't hand pour the first half and then close and inject the other color with good success . I'll do that sometimes when I don't want to break out the The duel injector . As far as tails you can make Baits in your tail color and then clip them put them back in the mold and reshoot your other color.
