You could also use a hard straw for reusable water bottles. Not the cheapest straws but are more rigid and give you more rattle. The added diameter might cause a problem though for smaller baits. Just a thought. Jared

Can Someone Direct Me To A Good Stencil Making Diy
Snapping necks replied to Reelentless's topic in Hard Baits
This may not be what you guys are looking for but Jann's netcraft has vinyl masking sheets for stencil material. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/fishing-lure-paint/037155300006.aspx -
How Much Weight Starting Point Calculations
Snapping necks replied to CarverGLX's topic in Hard Baits
Frog that will work but you'll have more trial and error with that. I think they were referring to taking some of that out for repeatability. Now as a beginner I'm doing exactly what you are doing and that can be most the fun and frustration for me at least. I'm a stay at home dad and work nights so my time to work on lures is slim so I appreciate the info about taking specs. It will definitely help so thanks guys for the great info! Thanks for the heads up Cougar. I'm new to all this so I really appreciate everyone looking out for each other like that. Thanks again.

Pigtail Or Hitchhiker-Like Apparatus On Glide Baits
Snapping necks replied to wvmusky's topic in Hard Baits
Another option is the attachments that the banjo minnow has. I love that bait by the way most successful bait I've had for bass. Plus they come in different sizes. Similar to hitch hikers but better in my opinion. Here's a link https://www.banjominnowstore.com/Store/c-9-cork-screws.aspx -
I concur! Everyone did some very nice work. I'm jealous of all the talent. Maybe someday ill get there. Congrats!

Pigtail Or Hitchhiker-Like Apparatus On Glide Baits

You could also just use a small stainless screw. Drill a hole, then cut the head off and screw it in reverse if you want a sharp end or regular if you want the cut off blunt end out. I would still glue it though. -
I've just gotten into musky fishing this year due to a buddy introducing me to it. I've only had a follow but man am I addicted. Started making my own lures as a result of the cost and of course love it. Only gotten a few spinners done so far but having guys like you as help is great. Thanks for the laugh!

Yeah okay I kind of feel like a window licker now thanks Musky Glenn!

Did you try to pop it after you cast. I've had buck tails that needed to be jerked like I had a strike after hitting the water and the blades would spin freely after the initial jerk. Just an idea.

I know that sharks and other salt water predators have sensors for picking up magnetic fields of prey but i dont know of that being the case for freshwater species. The article didn't really state how it worked but it said the guy who was making the magnetized flys said he was catching more fish. The article is a little dated. Just wondering if it was a scheme or if anyone had any evidence of it working. Here's the link http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/flytalk/2011/09/are-magnets-next-big-thing-fly-fishing

I have a kind of strange question but I saw magnetic beads for sale and did a search on the field and stream site and saw some info on the possibility of that working in the fishermans favor. I make musky and pike spinners mainly and that would be an easy addition. Has anyone heard of this or tried it?

My name is Jared Sievert and I'm 31 years old. I live in Zeeland Michigan and have really just started to make my own baits. I've gotten decent at making musky and pike spinners which was the reason I started making my own baits due to the cost of the professional ones. I have a few blanks that I've carved but dreading painting them because I have never done it and don't want to make them look terrible. I joined tackleunderground a couple of weeks ago and have learned so much! I have added some info to posts so far but don't really have much knowledge to give yet. I hopefully will contribute more in the future. Thanks to the creators of the site and to those that share their knowledge with us. Thanks, Jared

I'm a fan of the whiptail blades that LPO has as well. My profile pic is a musky spinner I made with the larger size and I posted another spinner I made with them as well. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info I appreciate it. I just got into musky fishing and have started to make some baits for that. Durability is a definite factor. I've learned a lot from everyone on tackleunderground and wish I would have joined a long time ago. Thanks again.

Has anyone tried the seal coat from Component Systems that LPO is selling. I see that a lot of people use D2T but was just wondering because it seems to be fairly cheap and I'm new to the lure making and poor so need something fairly inexpensive.

3D Printers Future Of Prototyping Baits
Snapping necks replied to youthinthewild's topic in Hard Baits
Here is a story from Popular science about one of the newest printers available http://www.popsci.com/article/gadgets/ces-2014-makerbot-unveils-makerbot-can-print-makerbot?dom=PSC&loc=recent&lnk=5&con=ces-2014-makerbot-unveils-enormous-3d-printer This is the link for the scanner http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2013-08/makerbots-digitizer-3-d-scanner-now-available-pre-order I think the idea is cool and you could come up with some really neat ideas but like several others have said its just nice to do it by hand. Even though I can't paint for crap. -

They not only have 3d printers for this but I saw in PopularScience that they also have 360 degree 3D scanners that support and opperate with most printers now so you can scan a bait or object and it automatically transfers that image/object into a file for you to customize. If you have a favorite bait then there you go. just watch for copyright infringement. Go to their website popsci.com and do a search for the 3d scanners if you are interested.
