  1. It's almost like a head shaking action. But unlike any action I've really seen because the head whips back and fourth pretty quick
  2. So I was experimenting with one of the bodies I made and made one where the head section was the shortest section. weighed it so both sections sank equally. It was actually kindof interesting, it reminded me more of a tadpole swimming. maybe I'll save it for when my local ponds are filled with an abundance of those. LOL im talking about bullfrog tadpoles of course.

    Small mouth bass

    That's a gorgeous bait.
  4. Yes I'm keeping the sides nice and flat but it seems like the lines I cut on top are different than those that have been cut on the bottom.
  5. When I cut my V joints on my bandsaw, they never seem to come out evenly on both sides. No matter how much I try to measure out in exactness.
  6. Awesome! Looks like those slots worked nicely. I was just about to go on here and ask what type of joints y'all were using on them. But I got my answer before even asking.
  7. I'm really liking this thread. Just a wealth of info. Haven't been able to test any baits lately but I'm tweaking them
  8. some really great tips! thanks
  9. That makes a lot of sense. Turning the rear section into more of a rudder. Now my gears are turning. If I come up with something, I'll post it on this thread.
  10. how does one get a jointed bait to have really long glides on a straight retrieve like an S-waver? I've been tinkering with some swim baits I'm making and I can get them to swim great but I really want to get that "cruising" kinda look.

    my first wood bait

This bait is about 6" in length and weighs about 3 oz. It's a floater and it swims great! I learned a lot from building this lure and I found there's a few things I could improve on my next bait. wood used: 2x4 (some sort of hard wood) sealed with minwax painted with createx colors and acrylic paint top coated with D2T named it the Cradle Robber

  13. I've seen a biography of that 3D fish painter who made those incredibly realistic beta and golfish art pieces. I found it incredible how he did it.
  14. Thanks! I might try calling in myself.
  15. Does anybody know how these blanks swim?
  16. I'd say toss it. Im not sure what that could do to the wood, it could even ruin the paint that you put over it. But you could always experiment on a plain piece of wood and see! Let us know if you end up trying it!
  17. darn! I'm sure there's something out there. but there's nothing like doing it myself and learning by experience.
  18. sounds cool! I was figuring if I wanted to do it I would need to either heat the lexan and form on a pipe or heat the lexan and kind of roll it across a clean, flat surface but I believed the pipe might be the way to go! I do like the idea of heating the pipe too.
  19. cool! I would really appreciate that!
  20. I'm not sure if anyone has asked this or discussed this before but has anybody here tried to make curved lips like the ones on the newer Rapalas. I've seen the action on these baits with the curved bills and it really is magnificent. However, ive seen these baits fall apart on more than one occasion. Has anybody tried their own "scatter rap" before?
  21. Musky glenn, i believe he is talking about glide baits that have the action of 2 piece baits like the River2Sea S-waver. These are sometimes called glide baits as well.
  22. Floridastrain, I reckon the spray spar urethane by Helmsman (i think) could work if you were in a pinch too. I believe I heard chatter somewhere about people using other aerosol forms of sealers to seal their wood lures. Just a little thought.
  23. Ok perfect. I figure I might as well give it a try.
  24. Thanks! I'll try Etex. And I'll end up finishing with solarez maybe. I want to give the stuff a try. Will a normal black light work or do i need a nail dryer?
  25. I was planning on using the solvent based, but now I might use something else like D2T.
