  1. Thank you guys for the feedback and tips. I wrapped them two times and then pulled tight with two sets of pliers before twisting. I think maybe that is where I went wrong. The first couple I tied simply fell apart when I cut the end of the skirts and took it out of the vice. I only had about 30 of the 44 strands left. Thanks again!
  2. I got my first couple of jigs finished. Any feedback (good and bad) would be appreciated. Not perfect, but useable I think. I need more work on getting the skirts distributed better and figuring out how tight I can twist the wire without cutting the skirts, but as has been said by many on here...practice makes perfect.
  3. Thanks Cadman. I am really looking forward to getting started tying. I think once I get the hang of tying I will try some powder painting too.
  4. Sent in my order last night and will hopefully get to take my first crack at tying some jigs this weekend. I decided to go with the #437 for the 3rd color. Hopefully they will turn out ok. I will to post some pics after I get the first done...no laughing though! Thanks again guys.
  5. Thank you...AGAIN. I think I will try the watermelon green/orange. It looks a little dark in the online picture, but it is really hard to tell the true colors from the online pictures. Hopefully I can attempt to start tying this weekend if my order gets here in time.
  6. I am planning to recreate the skirt myself...or at least try, but I cannot find the skirt tabs with the orange flake. I will keep looking, I must just be overlooking it.
  7. Sorry to ask so many id questions lately, but I think this is the last one. I am planning to place my first order tonight so I can give tying some jigs a shot and have one last color I cannot find. I think I have 2 of the 3 tabs in this skirt identified (watermelon candy dalmation/pumpkin green), but I cannot find the one with the orange glitter/flake in it. I have searched fishingskirts.com, but cannot seem to find it. Any tips on finding it or something close would be greatly appreciated. Thanks AGAIN.
  8. If it is a combination should I just use an equal amount of both materials? I am new to skirt tying and have never used either of these. Nedyarb, I think it is an Arkie bait. It works great, but I cannot find them anywhere either.
  9. Thank you. I will look that up and see what I can find.
  10. I bought a few of these buzzbaits a while back and I am down to my last one. They work really well on one lake in the area, but now that I want to get some new ones I can't find them and I cant seem to find the material they are made out of to make new skirts. Any assistance/tips you might have would be greatly appreciated. They are not silicone, they seem to be some sort of synthetic or imitation hair material. Thanks.
  11. Thank you for the info. I think I will just start with one tab of each color and maybe add a half tab of one or the other. I will primarily be tying 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs.
  12. I am getting ready to order some tools and tabs and have a question about trying to reproduce a skirt that I like. I think I have found the right colored tabs online to make the jig. My question is...how do I know how many tabs or strands of each color to use? According to the website, each tab has 22 strands. Any tips and info would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Thank you all for the info above. This site is awesome and I have gotten some very good info. I am planning to order some stuff in the next week or so to get started. I am trying to figure out which tabs to buy right now. I have been looking at some of my favorite jigs and trying to find the right tabs online (or at least something close). Thanks again!
  14. This is my first post, but I have to say, this site has a ton of great info. I would like to start tying jigs as a hobby and for personal use, but I am not sure what I need to get started and where I can find some tutorials for a beginner. At least for now, I plan to just find some pre-poured heads and do the tying and potentially painting myself. I am thinking about attempting to tye with either wire or thread since I have had a problem in the past with dry rot of the rubber collars on manufactured jigs. If you guys could steer me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. - What tools/materials will I need - Good resources for a beginner - Good resources for pre-poured jigs (football/brush) Again, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have never done any lure building so if I ask dumb questions please forgive me now.
