  1. The engineered angler on YouTube designed a soft plastic twitch bait with an internal harness that my be interesting to you.
  2. I am just starting to play with making in-line spinners is there any advantage to using the do-it lure body mold vs just the standard brass bodies. The first thing that comes to mind is I would be trading time and finish options for money. Since it only goes to 3/8s I'll still be buying brass for pike sized spinners.
  3. Nail foil is another way to get a very glittery finish with hard baits I base coat with pearl silver or gold depending on the primary color of the foil . 1. spray with contact cement 2 press the bait between two layers of stiff foam (I cut a gardening kneeling pad in half). 3. then paint and top coat. I did see recently doing heat transfer foil just using silicon pads and a electric toasted sandwich maker I'll have to dig in my YouTube history
  4. I do need a sprue extender for the 6" bait, but not really long I just use a 1/2" copper coupler and just enough pipe to bottom out in the sprue 1/8" or so more. I am not sure if that would work in the 5" bait since there are two cavities, it my have to be bigger. even mine should be 1/4-3/8" longer I still top up the sprue after shooting it, I should have it so I don't have to backtrack but I am too lazy to bother. I find the 1/4, 5/16 or 3/8 works for most of my fishing. But I did find a head on aliexpress that would be perfect. a line tie a dropper loop and a screw lock all in one unit. I have not ordered it yet so I can't really say if it is good enough.
  5. Speaking of titanium wire (for leaders and stinger hooks) does anyone know of a bulk supplier, all I have found so far are suppliers that are more expensive than buying a retail pack of Not to Kinky leader packs.
  6. X2 those look awesome, what is not right in your eyes
  7. Pearl powders are also compatible you can get them from both art stores and autobody paint suppliers. I have also used epoxy colorants with reasonable results though they can be a bit bleedy.
  8. I use an external wire rig, A football jig head, split ringed to a 55lb titanium wire with a hook and a pin also on the head is a screw lock. After the strike the pin pulls out of the body an the body generally stays out of the mouth increasing the life of the body exponentially. I have has numerous internally rigged storm baits wrecked after one fish even one destroyed after one bite did not even hook the fish. I am working on an idea for a purpose built head where the screw lock is cast in along with a two line ties 90 and 45 for casting or vertical jigging.
  9. Good to hear, I'll be adding the 1.75 to my next supply run.
  10. I have been loving the 6" version of the body (fantastic pike candy) but I have my eye on the other end of the scale 1.75" version has anyone tried that size.
  11. I watched a youtube about making dice molds and the guy was having the same sort of issues especially since he was pressure potting the resin as it cured. IIRC degassing the silicon helped lots but curing the mold in the pressure pot was the answer i'll see if I can dig that video up.
  12. I am using off the shelf clamshells but the best fit is still too deep and I need to find some sort of filler it to keep the baits nice and straight. If I was really motivated I would do a diy vacuum formed insert But that sounds like a next winter option. A high end option is to lazer cut a pair of coaster with a logo and some sort of witty saying. on the low end there is paper covered foam core. Part of why the package is thicker is we are also including an external wire rig with a hook.
  13. Hi folks I am looking for help getting properly setup to sell lures tax wise and the complication as always is I need Canada first , Canada to USA and Canada EU. What do I google Thanks
  14. I don't have that mold, but I do have the 6" shad and it is dull out of the water but lights up in the water. I have 3 different bodies types all the same. I don't know if it is the bodies I have or a common fault but I think the runners are too small and some sort of sprue extender is needed.
  15. There is nothing wrong with keeping it a side hussle. Maybe it does grow into a fulltime thing or not. It has been done before so it can be done again. My son and I are playing with the idea too we were setup to go last year but COVID killed our initial marketing plan and he got married so any extra time last year was sucked up with that. We have another possible marketing plan and we are gearing up to be ready at ice out, but for us our goals for the side hussle are pretty small earn enough to keep the plastic flowing and profit enough to finance our fishing addiction.
  16. Is the spout only for draining the pot or are you filling injectors/top fill molds with the spouts?
  17. If you are going to base coat with resin and then paint over so the pearl does not show through you may as well just use basic white epoxy tint. And here is the kicker I think most folks are using runny CA glue to seal now. But that said Jacquard pearls are very useful, if they only had some florescent colors
  18. Maybe I am using the wrong term but I was envisioning using a rod to create a cavity in the plastic to shoot the second color through. so shoot the body color with the rods in the bait pull the rods out of the baits trim the body so the the hole runs through the full lenght. replace bodies back into the mold. shoot the contrasting color.the plastic goes through the hole in the first color and fills in the tail.
  19. What about doing a coreshot that should give you a pretty cool effect with that mold.
  20. I sucked at top pouring, I have a number of the essential series molds, they do make good baits and are cheap enough to have a couple. Mind you guys can do some stuff with top pour
  21. For home use, plastic is a reasonably low cost consumable a gallon goes a long way (OK after you get past the newbie tendency to make 50 of each color). Glitters, colorants and molds will eat money in job lots But runners do make sense where you can't ship liquids I get managing the budget but there are times when spending the money will make the hobby more enjoyable. Odd things happen to plastic, glitter and colors after it's been heated once or twice. Fresh plastic is more dependable in how it reacts so you get better results than from re-melt.
  22. Once life gets back to normal, I will finally take a tour of the Len Thompson factory I would love to see how the pros do it.
