  1. This presents a very good topic. I too have the same scale issues. What about hand tools? Like maybe carving knives? I'm very interested!
  2. A couple weeks ago I ordered some stuff from LPO. I decided to throw in some circuit board (fiber board), not knowing what to expect. I have to say, compared to lexan, it feels just as strong, is much easier to shape, and has a great feel as well. It is incredibly easy to cut with sharp scissors, and I can shape it in about a minute with sandpaper. I have yet to fish it, but I feel it is going to be great on square bills and more. If you have not tried it, grab a square next time your getting stuff from LPO. A 12 by 12 sheet will be plenty!
  3. When adding the xylene do you just mix it with a Popsicle stick or do you do anything special? Next time I hit home Depot I will have to get some! I second the canning jar. I bought a sample size and within a month the can got unusable and I inevitably spilled it off the counter trying to open it. I brushed it on with that can, and it went on great. When I graduated up to a pint I eventually had to move it into a canning jar. I also have tinfoil just wrapped around the lid for added security. Unless you are very very careful and clean out the lid on the can, it will bubble up when you close it and eventually it is just unusable. The canning jar is a little easier to clean up and prevents that from happening.
  4. Aren't you lucky?! Summit just down the road, I have to wait a week! Hahaha. What do you thin it with? Does it set it off? I tried acetone and I think it set it off.
  5. I tried AC1315 and hated it. That being said, if you like it, stick with it! I have tried Solarez, and like it under crank baits, I use KBS a lot. It's pretty much my favorite all around now. Ive used D2T and didn't mind it either. I use Art resin on my larger glide baits. It's all personal preference. I swear once a month someone asks a topcoat question (usually it's me). If you like your coffee black, then drink it black! It all depends on situation, and what you can make work for yourself.
  6. The green one is un opened. The rest have been fished. I'm pretty positive they are pre-Rapala as the bottom of the lip says "wigglewart". If they aren't special then I'll fish them, as I hear rumor that they do wonders in cold water. Haha.
  7. My searches are still coming up empty. Hmm. On a different note, I also got my hands on 4 warts, pre Rapala. 3 are opened, one Is still sealed. Do I fish them/repaint them, or leave them in the package and add them to my collection? I know a little about the pre-Rapalas but just want opinions. I'm still looking to see what that little jointed bait is. It's pretty cool either way!
  8. I want to try that off center turning now!
  9. Hey guys! It's been about a week since I've been on here. Been on vacation (sort-of) anyways, I got these from a guy who was getting rig of a bunch of old tackle, and these and a few others stood out. Only thing is, what are they?! I mean I know what that one is a frisky fly, but do any of you recognise the others? There is no labeling on them, and the one jointed bait came in a old Hot Shot box. I'm scratching my head here. The two I. The one pic are the ones of real interest. These are just for my personal collection but I don't even know what they are! Also if anyone knows price ranges? I couldn't find them on line either, or at least no prices on the frisky. Any help on any lure is welcome and appreciated! Thanks guys!

    Little brown

Thanks! Yes, a very fun build. I did bend it. I didn't have any thin lexan so I used metal and it still worked great.
  11. That's Awesome to hear! You could break it off in a foot or so of water to test its retreivability. I wish I had catfish around here that would hit lures!
  12. This topic just had me curious, but would lexan even hold up as a line tie? Also, you could probably make metal inserts like that of an actual blade bait and add the lead on the bottom, if it was just going in the mold. Have you cracked one open to see the internals? If you are going to mold one, mold it and then cut the lure with a dremel tool. You will learn a lot about lead placement, plus you could get exact weights or take measurements and adjust them to fit that of your solid resin version. This really had me curious, it's not too often we hear about lipless crankbaits. Good luck!
  13. Ha! That's awesome! You will have to give it a sec to show up if you lose It too deep! Let us know how it does!
  14. I might have some brake fluid! I'll have to go digging. I noticed that whatever plastic the acetone softened, when left out of the jar it would eventually harden back up. I kinda dissed soda blasting as I don't really want to spend the $$$ on one just yet, but googled and found that you can make them yourself. I'll see where that goes.
  15. The chrome is not true metal I believe, because the acetone still eats it. It just eats it as it also eats the lure. Soda blasting? It was brought up and I didn't like the sound of it but if I can find a blaster then maybe I'll give that a try too. I'll have to give it a look.
  16. Hazmail just said it right! Check it every hour! I let a lure sit overnight and I woke up to a big plastic glob. Haha. I guess I'll have to watch it better. I would really like to see that chrome go away though. The other paint comes off fine but that dang chrome just crinkles into the lure. I'm not sure if it is specific to the brand or if the chrome thing is universal. That might be something to test! @hazmail, I will try using more thinner to get it off when it crinkles. I tried my fingernail and a scotch brite pad.
  17. Salty does have a great point! Like what Dale said, my painting needs all the help it can get! Maybe if I leave the lure in the jar, and don't touch it, the paint will just fall off and I can carefully remove the soft lure to let it harden up. Ill try that or maybe some softer solvent.
  18. I just tried it with acetone, it works great on smooth lures and lures without chrome. For some reason it doesn't eat the chrome very well. I would recommend trying something besides acetone though and the acetone started to eat the plastic on the lures I tried. It didn't get the first layers of paints topcoat off incredibly well though!
  19. @hazmail, now that is interesting! I think I might have to try that very soon! I was thinking about trying to paint a few lures today too. @offshore G, that is what I have slowly been doing to each one now. The flatfish/quikfish are actually really easy to sand. It didn't take me long at all to go through them. I'm going to begin painting here soon so I'll see where I get with them. By the way, those repaints look pretty sick! Thanks guys, I have some more things to try, I'll see where I get with them. So many projects, just trying to finish them one at a time before I start more! Haha.

    Hand paint vs spray paint

Those look great! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who does enjoy an original floater every once in a while! Don't worry, in 5 years or less you will be one of the best hand painters on here! Haha. I do like the vibrancy of those hand paints. I may have to go get some acrylic to try out! Maybe in conjunction with rattle cans or an airbrush?
  21. Good to hear they catch fish! I searched through a lot of threads and everything I found either used something like a sand blaster, which I don't have. Or chemicals. I tried gasoline but it didn't work the best. I'm going to try lighter sand paper on some Quikfish, and maybe try primer on them tomorrow and see what they look like.
  22. Compressed air, I didn't think of that! I have so many Quikfish blanks, it's crazy how many I find. I will try the sand paper, and the compressed air! @Chuck, I never thought scrapes could add to appeal! I might just end up hitting it with primer and calling it good! We will see where I get this week with painting! Thanks guys!
  23. That are all plastic, I feel like I could build it up on the orange one but on the rebel and the Quikfish they have very good paint and it chips thick so it is too uneven robust paint. Maybe I'll sand the Quikfish. I've done it before but it is just such a pain. As for the rebel idk yet. I found it in the river so I can't vouch that it is 20 years old but it still looks and runs good so I'm going to use it! Never used one before so who knows what it will catch. Haha!
  24. I'm a little late on my own topic, but here's some pictures! I found one of these lures in the river, and the other was given to me. The baking soda will seriously clean just about anything, and it also polishes bills nicely.
