  1. So I have all these lures that I would like to repaint, and practice on, but I would like to strip the paint and leave the detail on. I'm not really sure how to go about striping the paint without damaging the scale pattern on the two, and acetone eats the quikfish when used in quantity. I can't dip in acetone because the paint is peeling off un-evenly. Anyways, I think you guys get my dilemma. Haha. Anything would help. Also, on a side note, does anyone know what the top orange lure is? It has no labeling and looks like a rebel super R but doesn't say so on the bill. I'm asking a lot here, so thanks in advance to any and all who can help!
  2. I would like to hear how it works out for you. I have a can of it sitting under my desk with dust on it. It was not my favorite, but it has me interested again. I like its properties better than mcu.

    Cedar Rattle bait

That's a great idea! I currently drill a hole and then cut an indent for a piece of square wood or metal to be glued on and sanded down. I use Spackle for a filler. It sands down great with super light sandpaper while not altering the lure it's self. Your way seems a lot easier!
  4. OK I'll take 2! Haha. That makes more sense. I was wondering why one would need a giant honey dipper, besides the nostalgia.
  5. Hey Salty can I buy your lathe from you? Haha. So remind me, what is the point of a honey dipper of that size? I envy your lathes!
  6. You might want to try asking this in the wire baits section. There's a ton of people there who pour lead and might know. Good luck!

    Cedar Rattle bait

That looks awesome! I have really been digging square bills lately. If you don't mind me asking, how do you get such a perfect rattle and end plug. I have been putting balsa over the holes on mine and then gluing it, but that can get messy. Again that looks pretty sweet. You make awesome cedar baits.
  8. If you are still looking for a must have bait, by far the Senko is at the top of my list. When I can't even catch them on even a spinnerbait or jig I can trust a Senko for those finicky fish. I don't know who makes a good Senko mold though.
  9. I second the Rapala X-ray's! I want to say they are contained in the Rapala Bible? The book is in Japanese. They are great help. I used an X-ray to see the balast on the Rapala original floater and was able to get my balsa replica very close. F you find them all, go through them! You would be surprised by some of the lures, and the position of ballast and such. On a side note, having fish tear up a lure means your getting bit! No toothy critters where I live cept for walleye though so I don't really know the pain. :haha:

    Poplar squarebill

This one was pretty fun to make. It's a sinking poplar bait with a one knock lead rattle. I'm hoping it entices some bass soon!

Now that's going to make an awesome bait! That looks really good!
  12. If you are looking for just the blanks to paint yourself, I would check out the pinned post at the top of the hardbaits forum. I believe it is titled "blank crank bait body links" or something of the sort. If you are looking for someone to paint blanks for you, I would check the classifieds at the top. There are tons of awesome painters and lure builders on here, I'm sure you'll find someone to fit the bill in there! Good luck!

    Squarebill

This is my second square bill in this style I've done recently. My friend wanted one after I missed a bass on my first.

Oh that's awesome! I've been wanting to do this to one of my reels. If you don't mind me asking, what did you clear coat it with? I was thinking of trying KBS. Again that is so cool!
  21. I would try lowering your pressure and increasing time in the chamber. Do you pressurize and then take out or let them get hard in the chamber? If you lower the pressure and leave them in longer it might help.

    High lake trout

Thank-you! Yes I sure hope it will. Lunker bass hopefully!

    High lake trout

This lure took so long. I have been slowly working on it. It has been hard between school and work to find the time to build lures and usually I am spending that time fishing. 11 inches long and very heavy. I sealed and coated it with Art Resin. I really enjoy the stuff for these bigger gliders. I couldn't foil this bait so I had to go with bubble gummy opaque colors. I don't mind it though. I decided going for a less realistic look would also be easier with my painting skills. I don't think you can tell in the picture but I had to re-coat it and get off as much dirt as I could after the tuner mysteriously fell to the floor at 4 am. I think there was a cat or two involved.

    Muddy chartreuse

I made this little balsa square bill and decided I would give it something new. I am not the best at painting so it took me a bit to finally figure out the best scheme I like. I can out with this. A muddy chartreuse. I'm not sure how well it will track. It tracked fine in the pond but I made it all and forgot that I was going to work on the lip more before I glued it. The lip is a little crooked but I think it will be Ok.
  25. Water? Do you fish a body of water with bad algae? Do they all have one certain paint color? It could be that. Like a base white or something causing it after uv exposure.
