  1. Yes, first i tried your mottled technique.. I had a nice looking piece of cardboard doing that, but when i tried on the lure it didnt turn out so well..... A wet paper towel got the wet paint off fairly easy so i could start over The second time i was happy enough not to wash it off again

    Lip Length

I dont separate the two... On the lip or on the nose doesn't matter, line tie is just the "relationship" between the body and the lip For instance, say you made 2 crazy baits... One an 8" body with a 1" lip, the other a 1" body with an 8" lip..... You could get them both to swim by moving the line tie...... On the long body, the tie would be somewhere on top of the back... On the other it would be far forward on the lip This is how i understand it, but im not likely to build such baits to prove it
  3. Thanks Dieter!.... I also learned, when i mess up, this paint washes off easy!... So technically that was my second try
  4. No it doesnt!... And you're doin it right! I remember every fish my son has caught, but i cant remember which was the first??..... But he did get his first duck last year, and ill never forget that!
  5. Thanks jr!... I wasnt expecting a compliment, just posted it to show i havnt given up I did practice on cardboard pieces first, couldnt come up with a pattern i liked (or could achieve), so i just started painting this one aimlessly....... Turned out better than i expected, but i didnt expect much
  6. Someone said "practice, practice, practice"... So here is a practice paint job on a practice lure i casted in a practice mold sent to me from another member Used my Bulls Eye primer.. Base coat is Khaki acrylic... 3 coats of metalic gold... Solid black head and back, and my attempt at some fine black striping A few "missed strokes"... But it sure looks better than that dowel rod!
  7. Could go the other way hereFishing pressure is a huge factor, and one you should consider as contributing to the success of your vibrating lures Reminds me of a few city ponds i fished while living in Colorado... You wont see a tackle box up there without Berkley Power Bait inside (not the lures, the dough bait).. Trout LOVE that stuff! At times, it will outfish everything else.... Some of these ponds were small, and heavily pressured... There have been days i was practically fishing shoulder to shoulder with other fishermen..... While the Power Bait (what they were ALWAYS using) is a non contested, proven bait for trout, i would out fish them consistently using live minnows, sometimes catching my limit to their none On the flip side, ive been known to inadvertently piss off fly fishermen up in the mountain streams by out fishing them using Power Bait Just my experiences, take them for what they're worth
  8. Do they still sell those??? When i was a kid, there were 2 ponds FULL of bluegill out in a pasteur about a 3 mile walk from my friends house... We werent old enough to drive anywhere to buy bait, so i always kept a couple jars of Power Wigglers in my tackle box, they were killer! Caught more fish than we could even count! We would make that walk almost every day after school til one day we came up with a plan.... We dug a big hole in my friends back yard, about 4' deep x 6' wide and filled it with the water hose (without the knowledge of his parents)..... The next day we carried a 5 gallon bucket to our fishing hole and took turns lugging it back full of water and fish.. Then we dumped it in our "man made" pond We learned 2 things... Fish need oxygen to survive and water costs money..... We were grounded from fishing for a few weeks after his parents found out about our little scheme
  9. The wireless plan usually includes data (internet)... Without a data plan, it will only make calls and send text messages... Im pretty sure the GPS wont work without it, and you wouldnt be able to download any new apps you need Idk what carrier you have, but some offer different levels of data... You could get off cheap if you don't plan on filling it with music and games
  10. Im only farmiliar with channel cats, theyre opportunistic feeders, much like trout... If the prey is easy, they'll chase it down like rabid dogs!... If not, they scour the bottom engulfing anything that smells/tastes edible Ive caught plenty of catfish on lures, not trying.... But if im targeting them, im leaving the lures at home The video shows a different species, obviously more aggressive than what we're use to over here
  11. Now that is a cool, handy little tool there!!!... Thanks D! A friend of mine whose done a lot of automotive paint work suggested i use different shades of gray as a basecoat.. That it will work under almost any color...... Im gonna give that a shot too
  12. I was just considering this last night! How do you do it??... Make an extra long "false blade" with some sort of attachment at the end for the bottle??
  13. Well that was fun to watch! The charger leads and magnetic switch... Clever clever!! I have 2 questions... Where is that river? And how do i get there?
  14. Ok... I think i found my problem! I just need to learn these colors!... Certain colors will not go over other colors Example: I tried brushing gold over my white primer, looks like hell! White showing thru between solid gold brush strokes.... But... Khaki goes on the white nice and smooth, and the gold goes over the khaki nice n smooth Now i am painting instead of just spreading paint around!.... Like i said, i dont give up easy!..... And when i suck at something, it makes me wanna do it more!
  15. I didnt thin it at all... Strait from the bottle.... I shook it first, maybe not enough??... I did notice some colors worse than others On the brushes (brand new) i just sloshed in a cup of water til i couldn't see paint on it, then brushed on a paper towel to dry Ill try shaking the bottles up alot more and see if results change
  16. I saw it on the TU facebook page.. But i didnt get to watch it either

    Crappie

Now that looks sharp!... I dig that color scheme too!

    Beechwood Whirligig

Amazing work their Dieter!... I love fishing natural colors, ill have to try this technique!
  19. Thanks for the encouragement Dieter! The problem im having is getting the paint to look like paint... Its looking more like a scribbled marker When i paint over the bare wood, it grabs the paint and looks fine.... But when i go back over that color (once dry) or try painting over the primer, i get dark strokes and strokes that look like colored water Ive painted walls in my house before, and any brush strokes left behind would dissapear once the paint dried... Not so in this case Either im doing something wrong, or this takes way more skill than i imagined!.... If its the second, then im in trouble
  20. Im realizing real quick that im out of my league on this one!..... I did accomplish one thing.. Over the past two nights i successfully made the worlds ugliest dowel rod I dont give up easily, so ill keep at it! Thanks for the links to the videos Dieter.. You certainly do make it look too easy!...... One question so far, you talked about the primer, but i didnt hear what kind it is
  21. My take on the "freedom thing"... The limpness and flexibility of the line has to be significant vs the rigid metal of a clip.. Best with a Rapala knot as Dieter says That being said, i use a snap when im lazy too... But most of the time i tie strait on For testing, maybe tie a short leader to each bait the night before and change them out with a snap on the main line on the water
  22. Not to buy a tatoo gun... Rather just piercing the egg with a sharp point of any sort dipped in black plastisol Another idea, put a drop of black colorant in the mold before you shoot
  23. Jordan, that would be a change of pace for me!... I love makin em, but i always get nervous when it comes time to bring out the paint! Dieter, i look forward to viewing the videos when i get home from work.... Thanks for chiming in!!!
  24. Sweet!... I think they have that at Walmart too.... If not, we do have a Lowes out here also
  25. Oh, and whats a leveling agent??... Is that added in the paint?? Surely theres some kinda primer that can be brushed over???
