  1. Its not so much about the budget as it is priorities... First priority is a band saw when i move into the new shop, and maybe a belt sander if that's not pushing it... Ill get an airbrush eventually, but in the mean time im not gonna stop making baits If i can make a hand brush job look better than spray cans and sharpies, then ill concider it a win!
  2. Its not a gloss primer.. And i did try a little scuff with 320 The paint goes on bare wood fine, but on the primer it leaves big ugly brush strokes
  3. So the new brushes are nice!.. At least they seem so to me But this paint does not want to go on my primer (bulls eye spray can).... I read that some here use Kilz, ill have to try that i guess
  4. jr.. Thats also good to know! 50 cents for the Apple Barrel paint... Ive always done my practice painting on dowel rods, so i can see how a scheme looks in 3D.... But the paper is a good idea, no primer required Ill see how i do with the cheap brushes before i make another investment
  5. Turns out Apple Barrel paint is what i have, i probably just wasn't using it right... Stopped by the Walmart to get a few more colors, found out they have Folk Art there too.. So i grabbed a few of those Also got a pack of Folk Art brushes and a thick dowell rod to practice on.... We shall see how it goes... As for hobby stores, closest one is a 40 mile drive... Not many disadvantages to living out in the country, but this is one of them.... Its Walmart or nothing
  6. Youre thinking about work while youre fishing, im thinking about fishing while im at work..... One of us has it backwards
  7. I have!... They're the ones i was refering to, and cant forget Littleriver Thats good to know... If i stock up on the paints you mentioned, i could still use them if i ever get an airbrush
  8. It was touched on in this thread http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/30308-air-worm/?fromsearch=1 No definite answers, but a few good ideas
  9. So i looked into buying an airbrush, as most of you know the whole set up is quite expensive!... If i did this, it would negate the possibility of gathering other tools i really need Ive just been using spray cans to paint my lures, they look alright (i guess)... But ive noticed some of you hand paint your lures and they look stunning!!! I have a small collection of acrylic hobby paints that ive used to brush on details, but it is thick and runs until it is dry... Should i try thinning it out? Or is this the wrong paint?? What kind of brushes would i need?... And what else would be usefull for applying paint (sponges, foam, ect.) Any other tips/tricks you wouldnt mind sharing would be great too!.... Like how to fade/blend colors, break up hard lines ect.. I imagine this is a tedious process, and im not much of the artistic type... But i wanna give it a shot!
  10. I think an injector costs about as much as the mold you would risk destroying Not saying it cant be done... If you have the tools and the cash, go for it But you could make the mold you want for less than half that price
  11. Or poke it in like a tattoo gun
  12. Looks like a pair of.... Never mind that I would try dipping a tooth pick in black plastisol and adding a drip to each egg
  13. I dont think ive ever seen an egg with eyes Do you have a picture of what youre after??
  14. ^^^Thank Mohawkman^^^... His idea Painting still kicks my butt!... Sometimes i think i should just fish em in raw PVC... They look fine til i get paint in my hands
  15. It did come across that way.. But na.. Hes spoiled, but not THAT spoiled! Sad thing is, he took such great care of that tablet for so long.... And then I broke it, trying to jam a cheap gas station charger into the charger port
  16. Devcon makes a fine sealer, and holds paint well Devcon, paint, more Devcon If you dont have any lexan, i know a guy here who uses old tackle box dividers for making lips.... Clever idea!
  17. I keep score in golf by how many balls i lose... I once made it 18 holes with a dozen balls.... That was a good day!
  18. As for pool tournaments, i usually dont play well when money is on the line.... Ive had friends bet on me in bars, i warned them but they didnt believe me.... Ive won more beers than i could count, but never any money
  19. I have a lot of friends who ride motorcycles... They've been beggin me for years to buy one... Ive told em many times, but they still dont get it.. I drive a truck for a living, last place i wanna spend my days off is back on the road! I would however like to get into boating... Cruise around the lake the same way you cruise the streets on your bike... Maybe ill fish a little, or maybe ill pull the kids around on a tube... Either way, when im on the water, im happy! Almost had me a boat... But then this house thing was dropped on me... Its a good problem, if all goes well we close by Dec 15th... Everyone is excited! I forgot about guns... My family loves guns! Even the wife!... I dont take them shooting as often as i should, maybe i should plan a trip to the "range" (abandoned field) soon Also, i think making/editing videos has just become a new hobby of mine... I do them all on my phone, but would like a go-pro some day Just put this together the other day.... In my younger years, freestyle BMX was a BIG "hobby" of mine (more of a lifestyle)... A while back i ran over my kids old bike, the wife thinks i did it on purpose so i could buy him a freestyle bike.... I can't comment on that... But i do like watching him ride it! Ethans new ramp:
  20. I was pretty good too, back when i had my own table I had just turned 21 and i wrecked my truck (no alcohol involved)... Bought another truck, and then the ins co cut me a check for $3,000 over what i paid...... I was a single man in a 3 bedroom mobile home that i had taken over the mortgage from my parents when they bought a new house What would a 21 yr old bachelor with his own house spend an extra 3 grand on???.... Yup, 4x8 Olhausen 3/4" 2 pc slate table, cherry wood, ball in claw legs, leather pockets and electric blue simonis cloth felt...... All graphite "house sticks" and a 19 oz McDermott cue in blue birds eye maple for me I took out the kitchen wall and reinforced my floor with 7/8" tounge n groove wafer board to accommodate... I even took a felt sample to a carpet store to be matched.. It was the ultimate bachelor pad (much alcohol involved)!!! I still have the cue... But the table was passed from friend to friend after i moved away.. Ended up under the care of an acquaintance who just sold it last year
  21. I look at golf like playing pool outdoors on a HUGE table... Im much better at pool, but golf is fun too My younger brother was actually on the golf team in high school, and my mom lived on hole 14 of the golf course in Runaway Bay (on Lake Bridgeport)... We use to jump on and play 14-18 all the time... I was no good, but i did see him ace a par 3 hole once
  22. I think it was a good lesson learned for him..... Btw, i did not rush to the store, he spent a good 2 months with no video game before i decided to replace it He respected the tablet more than he did the video game.. I believe in 2nd chances, but not 3rd and 4th... No protection plan this time
  23. I had the complete opposite experience when getting a tablet for my son.. Only it didnt start with a tablet.. It started with a portable Nintendo DS bought from rent to own type electronics store It was a cool little toy and he enjoyed it for over a year.. Until one day he lost in a game of Madden (football) and threw it against the wall... Ugh, kids... Luckily i paid a considerable extra amount for a 2 year replacement plan So we took it back to the store (40 miles away)... These stores are manned by commissioned sales people who patrol the aisles like security guards and intercept anything that walks through the door... So i had no problem getting someone's attention quickly I explained the situation to the guy and we went to the counter where he looked on his computer and told me they no longer carry the Nintendo so they can't replace it... So what do we do now? We go get the manager.. After about a half hour of pulling teeth, he agreed upon store credit... The Nintendo was $400, we found a Samsung tablet he liked for $300 and took it to the counter Nope.... Salesman points out a $500 tablet, claiming the exchange must be of equal or higher value, and i would have to pay the difference... I didnt come to spend more money, i came to exchange something i already paid money for Back to the manager.. But there was no budging this time... I even offered to let them keep the difference, no dice... I left with a broken Nintendo and an upset little boy The next day, a call to corporate revealed that this was NOT their policy on exchanges... After some name dropping and a return visit to the store, i recieved first rate service, a new tablet and a $100 check in the mail There seems to be no pride, no shame and no ethics in the work place anymore... At least not where i do business
  24. Also, i tip i got from another member is using baby powder as a release agent.... Didnt think about this before, but wouldnt the power help control moisture as well???
