Our bathroom has a built in float tank for ballast testing
-
That bait must look KILLER in the water! A big loud profile broken down into multiple smaller offerings... Something like that would murder the Sand Bass down here... Great job man!

There are other forums where this kind of back and forth unpleasantry is the norm... I like this site because it is NOT one of them.... Kaimon, sometimes silence is stronger than words
-
Ha!... I like the idea, but no way it would work in my situation.... My wife works nights, so she's home all day when deliveries show up The convenient part of this is, i never have to check a tracking number.. I just check her face every day when i get home
-
Good to know!... I will order some, but first i have to answer to the wife for the box that should be arriving today

I havnt worked with balsa, in fact all my cranks thus far have been PVC... But there is evidenced here that choice of material has a great affect on action I was thinking of going with poplar for this build... My thinking is of a less lively action from the denser wood, plus an easier dive with a smaller lip
-
Thanks Brandon!... Simple build, all household materials... No patent (ha ha)
-
Thanks man!... Ill be moving into a new shop next month, wanna wait til i get it all set up before i design a motorized turner.... So ill be on the look out for motors soon
-
Convenient that this thread appears... I was planning soon to design me a new crank for the coming of colder water Something a little deeper than my norm, and certainly tighter My plan was a longer, more slender body (as mentioned), i think having the ballast closer to the x-axis makes for more roll and less wobble..... Also i think splitting the ballast (as Dave said) would get rid of the "pivot point" and reduce wobble even more As for the lip, i would trust the experts here!... Im looking for about an 8' dive out of mine, so my angle will naturally be shallow..... Love that video Dave! Musta watched it a few dozen times! The coffin bill looks best of both worlds, tight wiggle and would deflect off cover better than the shaped bill.. Plus if BobP says coffin, coffin it is!

Questions are OK! Thats what this site is all about! I like to twist my own eyes... I got a spool of 22 gauge soft temper stainless steel wire from Lowes... Ill simply cut a length of wire about 4" long, fold it over til the 2 ends touch, then chuck those 2 ends up in my drill... Next ill hold a piece of wire clothes hanger inside the fold (as a form) and engage the drill to twist... I stop when the twist reaches the hanger.... Then cut to the length i need This style of eye is installed by drilling a hole in the bait and filling with epoxy, the connection is strong!.... Ive tested mine by hanging a 30 lb dumbbell from my bait attatched to a tree

I think you are cheating yourself kaimon... Here you have a large group of gents and gals alike who have the same passion as you.... They all know personally the amount of work, skill, sweat, blood, tears and pride put into doing what you do! Im sure you show your projects off to friends and family outside of this site (i do), and im sure they all "ooh" and "ahh" (mine do)... But they havnt a clue what you actually put into it To me, that's the best part of being here...!

Scratch that... Went ahead and ordered some hardener... Only cost me $70....... This is why i try not to order stuff, you never get just one thing, too easy to click that "add to cart" button!
-
Yes! They do!... Plus this makes short work of turning 4 bodies (or 6 or 8 if the build was bigger), before i could only manage 2 Using it as i type this, working great!

A proper electric lure turner is high on my to do list, but in the mean time im not gonna stop making baits..... Previously ive simply hung my lures using wire and flipped once every minute until epoxy no longer runs...... However, after a couple of "butterfinger moments" i decided i need a way to flip the lures without having to handle them Here it is... It is a crude device, but i believe it will serve its purpose The frame is a cut from a 1"x4"... Alligator clips crimped onto wire clothes hangers... The hangers are formed into 2 opposing "U bends"... A bell sinker in each U bend holds the bait in position, by moving the sinker into the opposing U bend the lure is turned 180 degrees Turn once a minute until epoxy begins to set, and once every few minutes until it no longer runs... The left over epoxy will tell when to stop turning... Just tilt the mixing tray, when it stops running in the tray, it stops running on the bait This is for the new guys who still need so many things... One less thing to buy for now

In fact, if i had one suggestion, it would be to add a few more winners... Even without the prize, bragging rights alone for taking 4th or 5th place among these skilled craftsmen would be reward enough!

Any contest, game, sport or competition of any sort that comes down to judging will never please everyone Think of a boxing match with hundreds of fighters in the ring coming down to a decision... All the fighters held their own for 12 rounds, yet someone had to be the winner In this case, the lures are not racing or scoring points.. There is no finish line or final second on the clock... Only the eyes of judges who were chosen by their credentials in the tackle building arena.... I (as probably many of you) went through every entry trying to judge for myself, there is no way i coulda narrowed down to 3!... So i say great job by the judges!

I think the safe play would be to use the same email you have registered on this site... Or PM, which will have your user name

Oops... You did say that in your origional post Have to say, his plastic sure looked like wood!... The PVC i use is pure white in color, unmistakable for wood.. Ive heard PVC will hold screw eyes fine (irrelevant to me since mine have no hardware) and also is close to balsa in buoyancy....... But the kids project is a wooden lure, so ill leave the PVC out.... Sealer will be required then... Ive grown fond of epoxy, but your thread (Diemai) about lost lures returning home in good shape after years of dwelling under water is a strong proponent for the use of propionate!!!

Almost makes your net look like a minnow dipper!... Nice catch! I dont know a whole mess about salmon, but i know we had kokanee in Colorado... Only one i ever "caught" was by hand... Poor thing was about a month early on the spawn, swimming on its side in the rocks..... I took it home and doctored it up with some butter and thyme.... Sad to say he didnt make it, but he tasted great!

I have a bag of pink ones somewhere... Never used em, don't even know how i ended up with em??... Read good things about em though

Never heard of such a thing, had to look it up... Its a wacky looking device!... Wonder how many fish you lose cause they hit the sinker instead of the bait
