  1. Dave, i got your spreadsheet.. Thanks!... But my phone wont opperate it, i didnt think about that before i asked... As Mark would say, "Doh!" Why did u divide by 4 for the volume?
  2. Been a while since high school... Who wants to grade me? Got a 1/4" hole (.635 cm) 1/4 deep... So i have a 9g weight?? Volume= 3.14 (.635 .635).635= 0.8039903275 11.34 (lead)= X/ 0.8039903275 X= 9.1172503138
  3. If you make that spreadsheet, send a copy my way!

    Hair Swim Jig

I can see that hair stacker you made is paying off!... Looks perfectly even by my eye... I need to make one!

Love this body shape!.... Really like the paint on the gold one! Nice work!
  6. 2 original AND impressive designs here!.. I like your style!! And youve obviously taken it beyond a hobby... An inspiration to a guy like me!..... Im just getting started, but maybe someday!?
  7. The view from behind tells the whole story Also makes me wanna start using slow-mo in my test videos!
  8. I remember back before i got my test tank, there was some other way to test lures...? I think it was called go fishing
  9. Ive been thinking about spoons for a while, but i havnt come up with a concept that i like yet....... Im like you Brandt, i have a hard time making a lure that has been made before.. I have to change something or it isnt mine Dave, I learn by watching.. Found some videos a while back of a guy with some sort of "test tunnel".... I looked them up again, heres one i liked, maybe it will help you on your quest Fishing lure Test tank lure testing Dec 2011.wmv: You are the fluid mechanics expert, maybe you can gather more from this than i did What i see: A spoon is basically the opposite of a crank bait... - while the crank bait is a battle between buoyancy and fluid pressure, a spoon is a battle between gravity and lift -Body WIDTH and lip angle dictate the attitude of the crank bait.. For the spoon its LENGTH and bend angle - the frequency of a crank bait is predicted by balast and lip width, like a pendulum with weight and distance... The spoon seems eratic, but i can almost see a pattern/cycle to the action... Maybe that's where your vortex comes into play
  10. I use wood too, so i didnt have an answer for you... But i just now remembered seeing this http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/23195-making-your-own-aluminum-mold-for-pouring-belly-weights/#entry173600 In the thread is a pdf tutorial that might help you out

    Rootbeer minnow

    Typo... 1/8 oz jig head
  12. The spoon bait is awesome!... Nice work!!! Cameras on phones are finicky, but thats all i use... Obviously clear water is a must, but i also find shallow water makes better footage than deep water for some reason..... The lure seems to disappear into the background if i film in deep water

    Rootbeer minnow

One of the first plastics i ever made... Trying out some new colors Theyre not fancy and theyre not pretty... But they catch fish!!!.. On a 1/16 oz jig head when theyre frisky, on a drop shot when they're not Me and this mold dont get along verry well
  14. Man, i just started using the superglue a few months ago.. Im not brave enough to try it on a finished lure yet..... But for my prototypes, i squeeze a puddle of gorrilla glue in the cut off base of a beer can and mix in a couple drops of paint thinner (Mineral spirits) and brush on with a disposable brush Working time is plenty, a big enough puddle won't dry for hours, but once you brush a thin coat on the lure it dries in minutes I can think up a new idea in the middle of a 12 hour work day.. Come home, cut, carve, seal, float and test swim before i go to bed
  15. On my prototypes i use scotch tape to hold different weights in different positions til i find the right combination Then i make and seal the cavity for the final (hopefully final) test... But i do install the hook hangers before sealing
  16. First things first... Get it sealed Then you can play around with weights and hardware til you get it to float (or sink) the way you want Thinned super glue is a good rapid sealer.. It penetrates so it can be sanded before painting I would also suggest making a "twin" to do all your experimenting on.. Then theres no worry over mistakes.. And once you get it right, you can skip those mistakes on the real one

    Hair On Rats?

We have 2 highly efficient mouse traps! They are not exactly humane... But they do dispose of and recycle the carcasses No reset needed... They run off of meow mix
  18. I like the journey too... But when i complete the journey, im ready to go on another one! I finish a project and want to move on to the next, but one lure doesnt fill the tackle box... So im torn between building more, or starting a new one...... Thats whats great about soft baits, i can do both!
  19. Thats quite the range!... Close to mine (north Texas and Colorado)... Always dreamed of fishing Montana! But Colorado is spectacular in its own right!
  20. Another batch done... Junebug blue 20 worms through a single cavity mold... THATS a nights work! But I'm proud of my little mold, every shot ever put through it has been a keeper!
  21. Next batch... Junebug with black flake and royal blue glitter
  22. My best question here is... What is the advantage of carving every lure by hand when you can do it once and copy it infinantly with the foam??? Besides the satisfaction and demonstration of craftsmanship.... Is there any advantage to a hand carved lure vs foam molded???

    Rib worm... Watermelon Red

Thanks Mark!... Just wish i would have used some copies to make a multi cavity mold This one at a time game is taxing!
  24. No need to pick when you can have both! Obviously green pumpkin is quite popular... What about plain old pumpkin?... I have some LW Carolina pumpkin that i havnt even used yet
  25. Didnt mean to sound like i was knocking your gloves.. Im sure they're better than my cheap walmart specials... But its just a comfort thing for me Your worm solution sounds similar to what ive read about molding tubes.. And why not? Its basically just a closed tube
