  1. Youre right... No arguement... But the answer is obvious.... Americans are not cheap labor
  2. He did say the parts are made in America, but assembled in Costa Rica
  3. Good stuff! "I dont think the average fisherman understands all the steps involved in making a quality crank bait" Some of them do
  4. I just use lead split shots... Sometimes right out of the bag, sometimes melted one at a time (so i know the weight) and poured into a wooden mold i made......... One of these days ill get a scale and do it properly, but the method has worked fine so far As for your glide bait, ive never built one but i found a video on the one you mentioned... Looks like the tail portion floats level and the head portion dips ever so slightly to the nose..... Also looks like the ballast is high enough into the body to allow it to roll with the slightest movement
  5. I think of it like this... The fish have no clue what brand of lure youre throwing.... Sure, some lures have the brand name printed on them, but fish cant read If i build a crank bait, the fish dont know its not Rapala If i make a soft plastic craw, the fish dont know its not Berkley If i build a spinner bait, the fish dont know its not Booyah But if i build something no one has ever seen before... Well... The fish dont know its JRammit!
  6. Even with super lines, super rods and super fisherman... I can't get past the logic that if a fish holds the bait twice as long, you have twice the odds of catching that fish Otherwise good points... Especially about the vegetable oil.... I forgot to mention the baits i used vegi oil in did turn hard a couple months after i made them.... Now i know why
  7. Does the coffee affect the properties of the plastic in any way?... Like salt does?
  8. Thats exactly what i did.. But i didnt have a means to grind my ingredients down
  9. Even though im not big on scent, i use oil when i bag my baits to prevent sticking.. Figure i might as well use scented oil....... One plus is that it does mask the plastic smell I got a few from Spike-It... My favorite is their Menhaden oil... Its basically fish oil

    Swimbait, Carp

Certainly looks like it would steal my bait (ha ha!) What did you use for the tail??
  11. The coffee is to add flavor rather than scent Im a firm believer that taste catches more fish than smell Ive played around with Folgers in a few baits, but i found it too coarse.... Thought about maybe a pulverizer to powder it up, but havnt tried yet Not sure how Strike King does it?? But their "coffee tubes" were popular for a while
  12. So is it safe to say? For the average hobbyist making, say a couple dozen jigs a month..... Melting lead is no more harmful than melting plastic or carving wood/pvc??
  13. How many guys actually use plyers when fishing with lead split shots (i dont)?? Just food for thought... Some guys shy away from melting lead due to the health hazards, but dont think twice about biting a sinker

    Doh!

Im happy that i will soon have the same problems! Meeting with the bank this week, and viewing the new garage.. I mean house.. On Monday! Didnt have many options in my old work room.. But the sky is the limit now!!! One preliminary question.... What do you tell the wife if she wants to park her car in your work shop???
  15. Ive never tried the RTV/Aluminum method... Was only a suggestion If you try it, please report back with your results There are guys on here who can get the same or better quality baits out of a plaster mold compared to any aluminum mold you can buy Im not one of them, but their methods are here in the archives..... If you're intrested, try a search on sealing plaster
  16. TU is a tackle building forum, a place where folks with the same interests in life (lure building AND fishing) meet to discuss topics, tips and techniques... There is a column on fishing tips, but it is rarely active since there are other forums out there dedicated to fishing It is also a database containing info from the BEST in the craft!.... Some of the older threads youve seen may be re-visits by members who searched a topic and had more to add or ask
  17. I wouldn't buy a mold just to modify it into "semi custom" There are several ways to make "fully custom" molds... Its alot more work than "click, order, shoot".... But the payoff is far greater imo
  18. Gift from a friend Just needs a belt and a switch I doubt ill get it working before the move, but its one less thing i will need later Btw, i am pursuing the house with the detatched garage... Ive never had a garage before
  19. We keep jars from spaghetti sauce for multiple uses... Ive used them to heat water in the microwave, they seem to handle the heat fine
  20. I learned this from Bill Nye the science guy
