Yes there is, and verry impressive work i must say!!! I havnt been around long enough to know him.... Sad news none the less!
-
Travis, your right, the glue didnt fill completely but i thought primer would cover it up... No dice! I always build in pairs incase i screw one up... The bonus to that is, if i dont screw up i have 2 baits!!! If i were a little quicker with my builds, i would start this one over... Im getting there! Started these late last night and should finish them today.... But for now, i can live with the crack
-
Looks like the paint may be eating through the foam... Maybe not the best solution after all??..... Maybe regular CA glue next time I dont think the fish will notice the crack anyhow
-
This got the job done... Its Gorilla white glue.... It doesnt say anything on the front label, but on the back says "expands 3-4x" It turns into a hard bubbly foam, but is still softer than wood or PVC, so sands away easily There is still a tiny part of the crack exposed, but nothing a coat of primer cant mask
-
I tthink i remember reading something about PVC dust reacting with a glue (in a verry negative way), but i dont remember which glue it was Wait!... Idea! I had a problem with my super glue foaming up recently, only days later to read the lable and realize i accidentally bought expanding superglue..... I will give that a go and report back
-
Dont know if i got some crappy trim board or what??... Ive been finding gaps, holes, seams and cracks in the center of it...... Using 3/4" x 1 1/2" PVC bought from Lowes.. When i cut it open it looks like 2 thin pieces laminated together Most of the blemishes are small and i can hide them with a little extra sanding... But this one gets longer and deeper the more i sand... Did a quick search and bondo was mentioned as a good filler, i have plenty on hand but since this crack is on the top of the bait i wonder how/if the extra weight will affect the CG?? I also have some wood filler... Not sure which is the best option... Or if this body would be better suited as a scrap piece for paint practice??

X2..... Thought it was just MY water

Ha ha!..... I still see blue...... So i still ask her to verify my plastisol colorants

Thanks Dave for settling a 4 year arguement... I read your results to the wife.... With a "Ha" and a "I told you so" she gracefully accepted the victory Woman 100,000,000,001... Man 0

Atleast nobody said red... Then id know i have a problem!
-
Thanks Brandon, now im even more confused
-
Ok, help me out here... Is this carpet green or blue???
-
And you couldnt be more right about time! When i was a teenager, my mom found a wall plaque at a yard sale and hung it on my wall.. It was "the teen commandments"... I dont remember the other nine, but one of them was "dont kill time, invest it"...... My kids hate that, cause i always say it when i see them playing video games

Dave, for once i can say you are wrong, Ha!... You belong on my list because innovation is what intrests me about this hobby... Weather it be a lure the likes of which has never been seen before, or a bait that already exists but does something no other lures do!..... For all i know, maybe you have some kinda termite fish in Indonesia that find your wood finishes quite tasty (Ha! even made myself giggle!) Bob... I can draw quite well, and im sure i could learn to paint too (actually i plan to)... Im just not that good with colors.. I see them, and i see all shades of them, but that carpet still throws me off!.... When i mix a new color of plastic, i always have my wife check it

But we are all driven, or inspired by different things... On this site: some are driven by art, and inspired by the some of the finest painters in the world... who happen to paint lures Some are driven by creation, and inspired by some of the most tactile and talented small scale builders in the world... Who happen to build lures Then there are those driven by the wheels turning inside their own mind, and inspired by some of the greatest minds in the world... Who happen to invent lures

Well said Ben..... Perhaps a better wording for the thread would have been "inspire" Passion does drive, while inspiration steers

Since ive only been here a year and a half, i decided i needed a little TU history lesson... So it took a while, but with a few minutes here n there over the past couple weeks i trolled through the entire gallery... First, i have to give props to the custom guys... Weather it be a repainted crank, or a unique colored plastic.. You possess a skill i will never have!.. My wife swears im half color blind, weve argued for years over the color of our carpet, i say its blue but apparently it is green, we can not even agree on teal..... Anyway, your baits give our gallery a proffessional and artistic touch Second, to the hand carved crankers and swim bait makers... Your tedious and tireless efforts inspire the average garage/basement/laundry room guy to believe they too can build baits better than that found on any store shelf! Third, to the fly guys... I apologize! I know nothing about flies... I do own a fly rod and thoroughly enjoy TRYING to fly fish!... I even have 2 boxes full of flies that i bought, but i only use the mosquito and the black gnat But what drives me??... What drives me is thinking outside the box.. I dont mean Taco Bell (but i do love Taco Bell!!).. I mean the innovators, the creative minded type..... The type that if you gave them lemons, they would make limes! I made a short list... If i missed anyone please let me know!... My goal is one day soon to make it onto this list! Some of these guys ive seen on here alot, some i havnt seen at all.. Maybe they will see this thread and come back!? Soft bait guys.... Hard to be creative with a chunk of plastic, but a few guys pull it off Big Pancho: more unique creations than i could count! Bob La Londe: his fancy tools and computers may give him an unfair advantage... but if tools did all the thinking for us, there would be no need for lures... Our rods would catch fish for us, our skillets would fry them, and our bottle openers would fetch us a beer Other origional baits i saw from: crappieday Bassnjunkie88 Mudd Butt Baits Spinner n Jig guys.... I combined these two because the pages were short.... I dont know enough about the materials used to be a fair judge yet......... But i beleive JBlaze and Demai set the bar for creativity here Hard bait guys... This list is slightly longer because the gallery was slightly larger (438 pages) Mark Poulson: ive heard him tell people he is not a lure designer.. Well.. I tell people im not an alcoholic Littleriver: proof that creativity can be subtle.. His baits are not only unique in design, but also in style Hazmail: the snagless crank!.. I like it so much, i wish he never made it (so i could)!!! Other guys whos baits jumped off the screen at me: Joker biglures FrogAdict Bluewaterspecial VermontPhisher Spoonpluggerino Abrakis koop mark twain &Dre Crazy Joe whittler fatfingers StoneCole Tackle Yake Bait Theres this other guy who i couldn't find in the gallery, but he has some cool stuff on YouTube!... The "Indonesiavator" Vodkaman And last but far from least... Perhaps the king... Demai! This IS open for discussion.... What/who drives you???

That was another one... I remember finding part of a dowel rod somewhere and hammering the eye of a hook shank in each end... On the back was a single hook and a curl tail grub... Didnt carve it, didnt seal it.. Just wood n rubber

My 1st lure here was an ugly plastic crappie jig a litte over a year ago...... But my 1st lures ever bring back fond memories My dad introduced me to fishing as soon as i was out of diapers... He didnt use lures, his tackle box was hooks/weights/ red n white plastic corks... As i got older we began watching Roland Martin, Jimmy Houston and Bill Dance together.. So i began spending every dime i could get on lures from Walmart I lost him when i was 14 and had no one to take me fishing... So out of boredom i began taking apart many of my old lures and putting them back together to my liking......... I seem to remember things like half a power worm on a crappie jig head with moms yarn as a skirt.. Plastic craws with my own weighted belly hooks made from rubber core sinkers.. Spinners made from paper clips and bullet sinkers.. And there may have been a creepy crawler or two in there somewhere

I didnt plan on my accident either, but the scar on my hand is evidence that it happened! GLOVES GLOVES GLOVES!!!... Leather work fine for me Jeans work too (no scar on my crotch!) I work in the oilfield, so i have plenty of FR (flame resistant) shirts, but any heavy long sleve would do Apron is not a bad idea, would be easy to remove quickly in the event of a spill.... I dont have one, but may get one now that you mention it The main thing is, none of this does you any good laying on the floor!... Use it, and use it EVERY time you pour!!! "Im just gonna do one quick pour, i dont need my gloves"... HA!... Ill never say that again!!!
