    Hungry Popper

Thanks guys! Im not getting a good pop cause it wants to dive... Ill angle the mouth up on the next one, should fix it... But u get the idea! The Hungry Popper: https://youtu.be/YZEwKMU29LE Bob, that minnow is finicky!.. Even a snap swivel throws the action off, not sure what a hook would do to it??

    Hungry Popper

2 1/2" popper "chasing" a 1" minnow body Carved from poplar dowel rods, spray paint, paint brush dots, D2T top coat Used 20 lb mono with 2 loop knots for the leader, im sure there is something better i could use.. Suggestions??
  3. Interesting or not, this is life for many western families as well... There are "water stands" where you pay 25 cents per gallon for clean water and pour it into your own jugs.... Or if youre lazy like me, pay a dollar a gallon for bottled water at Walmart and use the old jugs for things like dragonfly wings on lures
  4. Can't drink tap water where i live either, thanks to all the oil and gas wells.... The irony is, the same oil and gas wells pay my water bill (along with all my other bills, including beer)
  5. Beer is concidered a utility in my house... I keep it on along with water and electricity!
  6. Also worth mentioning, i only spent $40 on the whole set up In fact, i ended up under budget for the whole work space... $200 was my max, i spent exactly that, but ended up with a new shop vac that wasnt planned (but too good of a deal to pass up!!!)
  7. Being a Texas local, i must also mention Shiner Bock!.... Brewed with an attitude in Shiner Texas!!! My 2nd favorite beer!
  8. Smoking in our house is a no no (but the wife is still out of town)... Standing half way between the box and the AC, smoke pulls toward the box, some goes in some rises to the ceiling Standing in front of the box, most goes in Blowing into the box, nothing escapes!
  9. 240 cfm (if the fan does what it claims) ÷ 8 cubic ft = air in box replaced by fresh air from the room 30 times per minute... Which i think is irrelevant since hot fumes have nowhere to go but up (into inlet)... Dont have a window in my laundry room anyway, so this will have to do
  10. This is what i came up with for my venting solution... Its 6" ducting with a 12" x 4" duct boot for an inlet... An inline duct fan claims to provide 240 cfm, the 2' x 2' x 2' box leaves 8 cubic ft of space by my math... I didnt do the equasion above, but i belive this to be sufficient.... Hope this helps someone!... Im sure happy to have it!!!!
  11. I say forget the depth for now... You've built a bait that defies what we know (ha! I can say we now!) about crank baits... This one is not supposed to run "right"... By all means it should blow out with that amount of lip exposed... Instead it hunts like a well trained bird dog, and vibrates like a womans best friend!...... If you adjust it to dive deeper, i fear you would defeat the purpose!
  12. Not to be misleading... If making your own molds (which is all i do), suddenly a chunk of plastic becomes a feat of engineering.... Venting, mold material, release agents, injection methods, temperature, ect... Ive found my own methods to simplify my process as much as possible, mainly through experimentation.... But im not done yet! Since i got into hard baits, my softies took the back seat... But i can honestly say it is easier to screw up a crank bait than it is to screw up a worm!
  13. It is when he scares the fish!
  14. Ive done both now, and i give the ez nod to plastics! Mess up a plastic bait and you may have bubbles and dents all over it... But you can still fish it Mess up a crank bait and it may be like having the Tazmanian Devil on the end of your line
  15. Agreed Brandon!... Im a HUGE fan of Sam Adams!!... Only i wait for the Winter Lager to come out!..... Ive found NO other beer to come close!!! Sam Adams Winter Lager tops ALL in my book!!!.... But in the mean time, i drink cheap!
  16. Movin in!!! Man this is gonna b AWESOME!!!... I can see all my tools!!!
  17. Ouch man!!!.... I always say thats why we have 10 fingers, so we have 9 spares..... But probably better we keep all 10! Have you looked into molding/casting? Im surprised at how few guys on here do it.... I havnt either, but im interested...
  18. Pop makes them... Any color, any size... No shipping!
  19. Me too (3 months ago)... My advice would be start with something simple (for me it was topwater baits), this introduces you to the basic challenges of construction, which you will overcome and carry with you to more complex projects... If you are dead set on building one type of bait, then build a few that you never intend to fish with... Take pictures, videos, hang them on the wall and watch your progression! Even with the great wealth of knowlege and instructions here on TU, human error is always a factor!.... If you nail it on your first try, then you are off to a far better start than me!!!
  20. Nice!... They may be just for Lake Erie, but i see them catchin anywhere!!
  21. Y'all need water? Come get it!!!... Im in north Texas, after a 5 year drought we made national news thanks to epic flooding! Last year i could almost see the bottom of my favorite fishing holes, this year i cant find em!!!... Ive been fishing in woods and pastures! Theyre saying the amount of water that fell on us in ONE month could submerge the entire island of Manhattan almost 4 times higher than the Empire State Building! Did somebody say pipeline??
  22. I find the scientific approach interesting!.. Most of it is over my head now, but i think i grasp more as i go along You certainly can build a successful lure without any equasion at all, mainly because most of the work has been done for us by the pioneers of lure building Still there is one word that seperates man kind from all other walks of life.... "Why?" Star shine... Why? Fire hot... Why? Lightening strike kite... Why? Crank bait swim... Why?
  23. Thanks John!!! I thought about leaving this part out cause it feels like bragging... But, this was done with no more than a jig saw and a dremel.. Im impressed with myself since i was able to make 2 identical baits with this meathod For all the new guys who dont have all the tools yet... You can too!
  24. You know youve done a good job when the kids start returning favors!... Ive done what i can when i can to help my mom out, and vice versa Mine are 9 and 17... The oldest has always been the calm mild mannered type, he has taken to music which is definitely a trait from his moms side of the family.. And has amazed me with his rapid progression! I can no longer tell if he is listening to recorded music or playing his guitar in his room!... He carries himself as an adult already and will have no problem adapting to the grown up world! The youngest... Well... Hes more like me when i was younger!... I make sure he knows wrong from right, but the fire in his belly tells him he is always right.. He is verry smart for his age, yet insists on learning things the hard way!... I should probably start setting aside money for bail
