  1. That explains it... Im doing 2" crappie jigs, small amount of plastic in the belly cools quick... Here i thought i just wasnt fast enough..... Oh well, i ordered my bond coat... Along with a few other things to justify the shipping costs

    8" ribontails

Wood body, foam tail, rubber o-ring ribs
  3. Nice!... Id troll it!
  4. I dig it!... Nice modification of the ol beetle!
  5. That tail is gonna THUMP!... I like seeing customs on here! Thats what got me into this hobby...

    1st hard bait

10/4!... Planned on hanging it on the wall over my work space... Saw something on youtube, wrapping an unfinished wood bait in shrink wrap to test weight in water... Think ill try that next on the one!

    New Here!

I was the new guy a year ago... I posted questions just wanting to be part of the forum.... Honestly, i didnt know there was a search feature...... However, I was greeted with nothing but kindness and helpful advice....... So for all the new newbies reading, think of this as any other fishing forum... These guys are here for the same reason you are, but dont expect them to tell you their best spot, time of day, best lure to use and cast it for you too
  8. DONT get arrogant and think "itll never happen to me".... As i type this with my right hand, my left hand is in a big bowl of cold water..... Just spilled a cup of plastic... Luckily i hardly ever wear shorts, cause it ruined the crotch of my jeans (better the jeans than my actual crotch!).... WEAR GLOVES!!! Seams like common sense, but arrogance sometimes overrides common sense.......
  9. Man, thats a tough spot!... Got a balcony?

My 2 cents... Dont lay that anywhere near a fillet board, could be mistaken for shore lunch..... Realism is off the charts!!!!
  11. Mark.. Are those single cavity molds? The one im having trouble with is a 4 cavity.. Im just not swift enough to pour 4 bellies, close, clamp and shoot before they cool...... Think ill give Bruce a ring
  12. Lure knocker it is!... Ive been making custom soft baits for a year now and raiding the dollar bin at walmart for cranks, poppers and spinners... My goal is to replace my WHOLE tackle box with customs... This was my first post on the hard bait page and i already see some farmilliar faces, maybe by next year ill make it to the wire bait page too!

Don't buy Chinese crank baits... I heard the lips are sideways
  14. I make plaster molds, i dont think they can stand up to the heating... Thought about waiting til i could place a bigger order, but crappie season is upon us! And i have over a dozen baits made that i cant even use... Whos Bruce?
  15. Im right there with ya!... Vodkaman is right, "labor of love"!... Never thought i could love anything more than fishing! Made my 1st one a topwater, easier to get back if i lose it... I didnt time myself on the build, but the whole process took me a day n a half.. Im sure i could make 3 or 4 at a time instead of 1, that would make me less nervous to cast it...
  16. Spike-it has this bond coat that sounds like what i need... Making laminates by hand pouring the belly, then injecting the top... Belly cools while i fumble clamping the mold, then colors split apart when i try to put on hook... Problem is, 4 oz bottle is $8, but shipping is $16..... Anybody use this stuff? Is it worth $24 for a $8 bottle??
  17. Soft bait guy, just made 1st hard bait (posted in gallery).... Making custom soft bait molds is alot of work, but once its done you can make baits over and over... But... After carving, drilling, weighting, sanding, sealing, painting and finishing ONE bait.... Im afraid to use it!!!... How do you do it????

    1st hard bait

Looked good before i decided to add glitter... Oh well, put too much lead inside anyway.... Redo!
  19. Original design?... They look good!... Id like to see the action on that paddle tail!
  20. Sorry about the tripple post... Didnt realize i hit the button that many times..... So far i havnt torn a silicone mold, no matter what ive pulled out of it.. But, ive made "2 piece molds" by just submerging the master and cutting it out w an exacto.. Even when i mess the cut up, the silicone seems to hold its shape when i put the pieces back together... I guess my point is, the stuff is hard to destroy
  21. However, sealing is a good idea.. Not for release, but for texture.. RTV will pick up the FINEST detail! Even grit marks from your sand paper will show up in your finished baits

  23. No release agent needed with the RTV... Its flexible and strong.. Pull, tug, bend all you need to get the master out, wont change the mold at all..... But your balsa (or anything else buoyant) will float out of the silicone... Has to be glued down or othrrwise secured
  24. Explains the effectiveness of good ol white!
