  1. Are these what what you mean?
  2. I have been using the Frankfort Arsenal drop out spray for about two years. It is a graphite base product used as a release agent for molding bullets. I always use it for molding lead lures. Before heating my lead I spray mold cavities, spray dries in about 5 min. I pour about three times without hooks. This allows me to get the mold hot and to adjust the thermostat on my lee Magnum pot. If I do alot of pouring I respray so lead comes out easy. I have never ever had a problem powder painting afterwards.
  3. Thanks Curt for your hard work. TU rocks!

    milling Teflon

Just a thought. What if you mount the aluminum mold to Steel Blocks to regulate the heat? Less of a health concern than polymer fume fever from teflon.
  5. Good one Skimpy. Do you do any other swing style molds?
  6. I recently experimented using adhesive spray on a piece of bath scrunchy mesh.I made an interesting discovery for an irregular pattern..... I was able to compress the mesh near the bait tail and expand it near the head of the bait for a realistic scale look. The adhesive holds the mesh any where you put it.
  7. Ultimately create an air chamber near the top of the head section. Experiment by drilling a hole or series of small holes on top of the head. Cover hole with tape and float test in a bucket of water.

    Deer Tails

Why do you wash them first? I always debone and scrape any fat off the skin before washing. I am just curious as they say more than one way to skin a cat... or deer tail. The black one should make some nice backs for streamers or teasers.
  9. For some durable fibers...how about bristles from a brush either natural or synthetic. Never made fins but you could remove a small bundle from the brush. Once removed manage the fibers using an adhesive or double side tape placed at the end of the fibers. After attaching the fiber bundle to the swim bait, shape it to a realistic shape.
  10. Makes sense Mark. I didn't think about the angle the popper hangs in the water. What you are saying is by having the tie low causes the popper to swing down when pulled. Then when paused it pops back up. The pull and pause motion causes the popper to moves like a see saw and make the all important bloop sound. In general do you think lures wag more with a bigger diameter tie?
  11. Does a popping style lure dig in more when line tie is positioned near the bottom of the lure? Is their an advantage of positioning off center? Any advantage of different diameter line tie?
  12. Does fly dig in more with line tie on top like your fly?
  13. Try dying them. I haven't done but sounds like it might work according to attached article. https://www.ritstudio.com/techniques/materials/buttons-beads/
  14. Wonder if it could be made from one of those soft plastic coated ski life preservers?
  15. Maybe Pam cooking spray before 2nd coat of pop. Also maybe a light coating on master too.
  16. If you will notice I was offering options to a cylinder shape. I also stated "If these will not do, the only option is for a custom mold." Why a custom mold, becausea nothing in that size exists!
  17. ron g, great idea for a spinner. What are available weights ? "Erie Shiner" Found this video...a must see for forward balanced spinner.
  18. 21xdc I did miss the weight part. So much for speed reading. Well the next ones are close to weights but albeit not pencil shaped will make spinners. If these will not do the only option is for a custom mold. http://www.barlowstackle.com/Do-It-Weight-Forward-Spinner-Molds-P293C58.aspx http://www.barlowstackle.com/Do-It-Weight-Forward-Spinner-Molds-P294C58.aspx

  20. Fatman have you used the Fly-Dye cold method on deer tail/hide? Nice squirrel...because the hide is so tough they would make some durable zonker strips. Sounds like you are making some nice memories with your granddaughter. My daughter always liked to fish with me and now fishes with her boy friend. She even got a 30 some pounder striper this spring
  21. Thanks Fatman, I have also use Fly-Dye for deer tails and have been happy with the results. I have not tried fl-pink, but yours looks good. So..chrome tanned rabbit pelt dyed @ 80 degrees for 9 hours...correct? For that matter you could just let in the hot sun for that long. At that temp does dye stay after rinsing? Are you happy with the end product when tying it to lure, and the way it swims?

    Deceivers

For great prices/product try Fly Tyers Dungeon. The latest streamer in the gallery uses FTD synthetics. BTW nice work.
