  1. I was considering buying a do it spinnerbait mold until I noticed it said ladle pour only. I only have a bottom pouring lee pot. What would happen if I used the bottom pour?
  2. Thanks so much for the replies everyone. Unfortunately, I am stuck with this mold for now. It may not be ideal for 4" grubs but I can probably make it work. I got a good deal on it and figured it would be fairly versatile. I think it has a good collar to tie hair to. I use a lot of 1/8 and 1/16 jigs. This jig may not hold a grub very well though. I think i am going to try the sickle hooks by both companies. I really like the eagle claw L111. It is the only ec hook i have used to make jigs.
  3. I mostly target smallmouth bass with the occasional largemouth. Mostly smallmouth when grubbing though. I was thinking size 2 hooks. The mold is jr-1061. Do they make the matzuo in a black nickel?
  4. I like to use a ball jead with a 4" grub. What hook would you guys recommend and what size. I was thinking matzuo sickle hooks or ec 570. Would one size hook fit the 1/8 and 1/16 mold? Im concerned about the hook rusting though. Any advice?
  5. Hi guys, I have the do it shaky football mold. I would like an ewg flat eye hook. Are my choices mustad 38109 and the trokar hook? Does eagle claw make an ewg hook for this mold? Thanks a lot! Also, i have been having problems with this mold even after heating the hooks the lead is really wobbly on the hook. Anyone have any tips?
  6. Has anyone here used the do it weighted hook mold for soft platics besides swimbaits? I was wondering if i could use it for crawfish and creature plastics instead of texas rigging them. I want something that won't get hung up a lot.
  7. I can't seem to get my skirts to be similar to the bitsy bug. Mine seem so much bulkier no matter what I do even when using finesse cut skirts. It seems like the skirts I buy may be more stiff? I tried hand tying with 210 denier flat waxes as well as using a rubber band. Any tips?

    Clip-On Coils

A little bit unrelated, is there an advantage or disadvantage in using the coils that snap on to the eye of the hook as opposed to the coils that are molded into the jig head? Is it just a difference in the angle of the bait? I'm debating whther I want to buy a shaky head mold or a mold that is designed for a weedguard and use the modifications that smalljaw taught me. I am looking for a bait that I can fish weedless as well as drag on the bottom of rocky rivers. I also thought about modifying the do it swm jig mold to use a clip on coil and different hook.
  9. if i use a hook that isn't a flateye hook will i just need to cut a small groove below the lead in the mold? Will i have to modify where the hook eye is?
  10. How about that hook that the mold is designed for? Would that make a good river jig for weedless soft plastics? Any experience? I would like to make a jig that is really weedless that uses a coil as opposed to a fiber weedguard. Would one of the shaky molds work better? I am hesitant to modify a mold bc i have no experience whatsoever doing that and dont want to ruin a brand new mold. Thanks again.
  11. Is the do-it swm jig similar to the confidence baits draggin head? The draggin head obviously has a coil keeper attached to the eye and a different hook. I was wondering if I could make a similar product to the draggin head. I know another company produces a similar jig but I forget who. Does anyone have experience with this mold? Thanks
  12. Do I have to avoid heating the coil in order to avoid it being powder coated? The powder paint that I have been using seems to coat pretty thick. It seems like it sould be a major pita to remove it from the coil.
  13. Thanks! Im going to try this! I really like this mold.
  14. If I made a mold with a dremel tool in order to make my snootie mold accept a screw loc can that modified mold still accept a pin so I can add a fiber weedguard?
  15. Thank you for the great info cadman. I will PM you.
  16. I have never poured a weedless mold yet, and these are the two molds that I was torn between. After doing some research I finally decided on the Snootie mold in the smaller size. I chose it bc I am a fan of the SK bitsy bug. I do have a few questions that have probably been asked several hundred times, but I am having difficulty locating the answer. 1. Are weedguards that fit this mold (1/8") diameter available that are similar to the bitsy bug. The bitsy bug has a pretty flimsy weedguard that has about 8 strands. Can i modify a weedguard and glue it into my jig without modifying my mold? 2. Is there a way to cast my weedless jigs and make them "not weedless" (no weedguard OR hole?) once again I am not comfortable with permanently modifying my mold yet. 3. Teflon pins. I already ordered everything before I learned about the advantages of teflon pins. Is there a retailer or a source that sells them without paying ~$6 shipping. I hate paying as much shipping as the product costs! 4. What EC hooks fit best in this mold? I purchased a bunch of the recommended Mustad hook, but I wanted to get a cheaper alternative hook also. Thank you for your time!
