  1. Hey dale, recently treated myself to a new top quality big lump of a file you won't name,to replace my old one..superb ! Never thought a new file could bring joy .
  2. Eh. Woodie, Being a recent latecomer to computers, Internet etc. Im not really sure what pinterest is about, is that like bikini lures or what, like the bikini turmoil x type baits ?
  3. gliders

    large perch lipless

    All really lovely carving sir.
  4. Could definitely come in handy nathan, should be guaranteed symmetry I would think. Cheers.....glider
  5. Aulrich, I should qualify that I do top and side profile on bandsaw and disc sander also now ! But contour and round with chisel.
  6. Anthony, I'm probably in the minority here but I much prefer a good flat bench chisel. The lures in my avatar were made with wood in one hand, chisel in other, then few strokes with a file, does take practice and is a bit dangerous, a good idea when hand carving is a kevlar chain mail filleting glove. I actually have one and keep promising myself to use it for hand carving ! Might be best to go carving knife route though if you don't fancy using and sharpening chisel....glider
  7. Lower line tie, wider lip definitely better action, but timber weight and ballast also important, are you using light timber? The lure top left does seem to have tie very high on nose, and small lip for volume of body. Nice lures!
  8. Glad you got sorted, looks good. Chances are you could use heat box for further coats as lure now sealed with epoxy ......glider
  9. Interested to have a look dan, take it i need to register though ? Is swimbait underground connected to tackle underground.?
  10. Got what you mean vman ,what I'm wondering is will the resins density /bohyancy be consistently exact enough for making say a very slow horizontal sinking glider with encased ballast? Out of interest dan ,what type of glider are you building ? ...glider
  11. Just wonder if you would be able to get balance spot on if your particular glider needs to be critically balanced ?
  12. Just be careful if gluing onto paint james, don't wipe excess cyanoacrylate off-just let it dry,if you wipe it can remove some paint types!
  13. One other thing james, are you torching bubbles with a heat gun ? If not careful this can be enough to expand tiny air pockets under eye.
  14. No problem james, just a thought, but is 2 days enough drying time for spar? If you've been using it with same procedure without issues I guess it must be, hope you get sorted.........glider
  15. Hi james, I dont use urethane sealer so don't know, but I would be surprised if it was 'off' that's causing the problem. I would be wary of using rubber based glue under e-tex. Personally I stick eye's down with cyanoacrylate (super/crazy glue) then when I apply 1st coat e-tex I make sure to work around eyes well, this solved issue for me. Hope you get it sorted buddy, I know it's a pain..........glider
  16. Hey james, I dont use light bulb for heat myself but if your wood is not 100 percent sealed and you heat up ,it will cause air to expand and force its way out, thats why I wondered if you were scoring or drilling eye socket thru sealer thus leaving open grain ? It could be you are raising temperature enough when putting lure in turner at 80 degrees to force expanding air out,if there's a big difference in temperature of sealed lure before putting in turner this will exaggerate the problem. If it's not that then there must be air trapped under eye prior to e-tex........glider
  17. Sounds like expanding air from under eye, if wood completely sealed under eye then maybe your leaving tiny gap or bubble when gluing in ? Did you score wood before adding eye ? Must be coming from somewhere!
  18. Basscat,if using lincoyas mould instructions,I noticed he uses 13/64 brad point for screw eye cavity but also calls it 13/16, I imagine just a typing error and both should read 13/64 ?
  19. Avoid touching painted lure before epoxy.
  20. Clemmy it Definitely looks and sounds like an interference pigment to me ,the interference pigments are different and colours are achieved slightly differently. Interesting stuff........cheers...glider
  21. You can buy tints for epoxy .
  22. Thanks hughesy, looking again at polytranspar shimmer colours, its iridescent rather than pearlescent,so I suspect the iridescent pigment will be more transparent than pearl pigment ,will investigate further!
  23. Richard or hughesy ,or anyone else ,out of interest, is the polytranspar shimmer basically a transparent colour with pearl pigment ? Or a transparent colour with coloured pearl pigment. Cheers.....glider
  24. Made mine from aluminium bar also,I don't have eyes in mine so fairly straightforward and worth the effort .Aluminium the way to go. I make mould cavities 0.5mm diameter smaller than ballast hole in lure for fit.......glider.
  25. Forstner bit, failing that ,a decent brad point bit.
