  1. Thanks mark, all good info, don't want to copy exactly, more the general design. I would imagine being round and cedar, and from pics I've seen both sides probably have ballast to sit evenly down on surface and aid stability on retrieve ? regarding screw eye's I'm assuming there so big to allow free action rather than strength, if so i think I'll make them from stainless. Appreciated. ....glider
  2. Thanks jp, so it is round cross section ,lathe turned? Been toying with something similar i can turn on lathe.
  3. Another option ? Too subtle ? This is a pattern for someone elsee who fishes very coloured water.

Glad you like it,and the good thing is ,if you've not had a fish ,you can close your eye's when retrieving it between trolls ,and its like playing a 2lb trout !

Hey dave v man, i got some good advice regarding predicted action of big cedar trolling prototype i was building a while back from you. I know your not that interested in aesthetics but more the technical aspects of lure building. However out of respect i have posted pic in gallery (monster holo troller) so you can see what end result was, has accounted for some good fish !

Got you bob p, though i do like building things,it would be a means to an end ,and not a project i could take on at the moment. For a couple of certain lures i make, I have thought about options for reproducing easier/ quicker than carving without losing quality. This as i say is not for now ,and i am also looking at possibly casting the same 2 models from urethane in future. Just wondered if i should go one way or other if i decide take any further in future, thanks....glider

Guy's, I like making tools also, all my round section lures made using home built laithe. Have looked at some past t,u copy machine posts. I am trying to look away and promise myself i dont need one ,or more accurately I absolutely haven't got time required to build one ! To put my mind at rest and save untold grief i have a couple of what i realise are vague questions - realistically what sort of quality do you expect from a basic home built duplicator , what time scale per lure ?. I realise! obviously there are tons of variables regarding design,cost,etc.etc. Just want a rough idea as to what could be achieved v cost and time .I Genuinely want to persuade myself i shouldn't go down this road !
  11. Thanks mark, appreciated.
  12. Don't want to hijack another post, been toying with idea of making something along those lines for nighttime pike. Can someone tell me , is the slammer lathe turned ? Or does it have compound curves ? In other words is it round in cross section front to back ? Thanks....glider.
  13. There's a good tutorial on wood carving symmetry by lincoya in member submitted tutorials. Though not a swimbait you might find it useful. You can make templates for material to be removed from all sides, top and bottom. Personally , if I'm carving baits I use a chisel ,then a few strokes with a file,i try to do as little sanding as possible and literally sand a big lure for maybe 30 seconds. Everyone has there own method ,i like the rigidity and accuracy of a chisel and hold lure in other hand ,probably not recommended as one slip and it can be trouble . I've used chisels this way for long time ,yet just recently got blase making a quick prototype, one small slip and into the bone ! Ouch.
  14. Beautiful foil and fade all eye's.
  15. I will ben . Ok. Last scale proto for now, going to go back to it though with far better results. Still trying to explain reason for twinkling holo scales everywhere. Punched out lots of various sizes, then spent time sorting and putting correct way up . Placed on card behind mini mobile lure turner on sitting room table i use for odd prototype while watching t.v- forgot about scales and while giving proto burst of heat gun I managed to spread probably 100 or more scales evenly about room...next night- done it again ! Aarhhh. Said i decorated carpets for Christmas (worth a shot) ... anyway this is holo and silver scales over holo foil.' Busted sardine'- like i say, when i get back to it I will be using different materials ,patterns and processes, centigrade also going to experiment when he gets bits and bob's ..............glider

Thanks v.m . I've watched your vid a while back, but never really looked closely enough. Mainly due to watching on tablet. Had a closer look and satisfied i was on right track with the 2 shapes, so thats good to know. Going to watch again on big screen and slow motion . Like you predicted, example 1 wider wobble, example 2 tighter wiggle but also a bit more roll . Thats what i was aiming for...cheers glider.

Nice lures surfk9. Trout patterns do well for me , lots of distinct variations in markings from one water to another about me . I have them in everything from cranks, gliders.trollers, and topwaters ,foiled, holographic, you name it. Wil maybe stick a few more types in gallery. Cheers. ..glider

Some fine looking lures your making ,keep up the good work.....
  19. Sleeves called jigskinz, other option is printing onto waterslide decal transfer paper, This is not a simple method though ,lots of research and practice needed if you go that route. .......glider

Thanks guy's ,helpful stuff. I like to know a design worked by design and not good luck or for a different reason with same result . Encouraged that i seem to have done so by design ! Thanks all.....glider
  21. Thanks ben, latest version has silver and holo, i can fold these several times and using punch i can make 2 ,4,8, even 16 at a time...lure not cured yet ,so will take pic tomorrow to show effect. I have a few more ideas to improve look and process. May have to put on back burner cause the pike are a biting over here ! ........glider
  22. Some good possibilities there stretcher 66,looked at nail stuff before but seen nothing i fancy, spotted couple of definite possibles there though, good stuff ! , I have another just about done with different method , scales applied after 1st qnd 2nd topcoat, then more clear. This time the base is holo foil, with silver and holo scales over this. My aim was a damaged knocked about sardine type effect . As this is varying from original post slightly because I also added some silver scales I am jot sure if i should post pic here or put in gallery. If the powers that be advise, i will post pic shortly to illustrate, thanks .....glider

In case of misunderstanding, I will explain the aim i had with bib 2 over bib 1 which is my normal shape on this particular lure . Without changing ballast or anything else ,i wanted to see if i could achieve enough difference with bib shape alone to produce a slightly different action for a specific application. What i wanted was a bit less stability and a bit more roll ,and a slightly tighter wiggle than example 1 , shape 2 was what i thought would achieve this. My question is, should it have ?

Just to add ,not trying to test anyone, just like to know myself if theory supported practical test. ...glider.
