The natural patterns are based on some of our baitfish species, with iridescence giving different shades at different angles. .

  5. Seemingly many of the Aussie style lures are designed for trolling very deep in snaggy water . Murray cod seem to like lures with a big strong thumping action . As jd says ,they are also designed to back up and away from snags when tension released. The shape lends itself to these requirements, it has to be very deep diving yet very bohyant. The big bib and broad shape can also make the lure wobble when rising . The Aussies make some fantastic looking lures with superb painting and finishing.....glider
  6. J, If you paint silver, gold or whatever nearest colour to foil - under the e-tex , the bits you miss wont be obvious . John, I lay the foil on lure then rub fairly lightly on foil with a cloth to evenly stick to lure. I intend to revisit this at some point to improve the process....glider
  7. I've never applied e-tex to lead j , imagine you would need to scuff or score for e.tex to key ? good luck...
  8. Hi j, rip the backing off straight away, This gives time to re do any bits you miss....glider
  9. Woody, what sort of receptacle do you use to keep tip in thinners without thinners evaporating ? Cheers....glider

  14. Combination belt /disc sander very useful for me sfrye, A lot depends on which style and size of lures your hoping to make in numbers consistently , and also type of timber. Like bob says, if you're lure design allows it , a table mounted router can give consistent curved radius on edges. I regularly use this method on big flat sided lures, I use freehand with no template or whatever - I hold the blank in my hand , but there are methods of doing it more safely - Doing it this way is faster , but especially with smaller lures is dangerous .....
  15. Thanks jonister, was just curious as to hardness and durability - seems to be fairly similar. .
  16. Similar to wayne, I use a dowel with spike ..
  17. Ddl, I'm usually doing several big lures at a time , I wouldn't put bin near my airbrush ! I use an auto type spray gun .
  18. Ddl, nozzle on mine is 1.4 mm, I do thin it with de-natured alcohol. Unfortunately I dont measure ratio , just judge viscosity, probably 5 part primer to 1 alcohol. Its still fairly thick ,slightly thinner than single cream ! Basically as thick as you can shoot an even coat with. You don't need an expensive gun either ddl, mine was as cheap as, and not a single problem....glider
  19. Did he offer to replace or refund Ron ?
  20. Suspect you guy's are probably right, over here there's a tendancy to bite the bullet and just move on to another shop. Personally I'm straight on the case ,no qualms.....
  21. Curt, while your here, is there any way to delete previous attachments,? With attachments full , I think there's guy's maybe not posting good ideas due to inability to illustrate ideas with odd picture. Understand if not possible......glider
  22. It's a tricky one dale, I'm all for shining a light on the good guy's, nor do I have a dog in this fight. I also get that it's good to let fellow builders know the dodgy suppliers to avoid. Just not sure this is the place to be doing it ? Is it actually allowed on here ? I'll but out on this one because I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing......
  23. Lurch, I think some guys reckon its stronger because the twisted section is slightly thicker with barrel twist, and therefore has a bigger surface area to glue ,in theory making it harder to pull out . In practice and testing ,I've found it means nothing, a twisted screw eye properly glued in will be almost impossible to remove.......glider
  24. No doubt ron, if someone did this to me I would be more than angry believe me.....
  25. I get it 21xdc, just not sure this is the right place for it ....
