i have to agree with Dave on this. i know it is an old post but maybe someone new on the forum will use the search function and find it useful. i have found that if all of the joints sink at the same rates the movement is more fluid. think about it this way. if one section is more negatively or positively buoyant than another than the joint may bind between those 2 sections (this is especially true on the hinges that use pins and a rod). when i make swimbaits like this i usually get a more slalom movement than a snake like movement, but that is what im going for to begin with.

I lock two of them together and use them as hinges for my swimbaits. They are strong, move freely, and smooth. Never had an issue

What type of clear would you dip them in after painting with water based paint. It may seem like an ignorant question but I mainly do hard swimbaits and this is uncharted territory for me.

Handmade wood swimbait made of poplar wood painted with acrylic paint and D2T epoxy topcoat. the caving on this lure took 10 hours and paint and topcoat took another 3. all stainless steel hardware (hinges, rods, hook hangers and line tie) overall length 6.6" weighing in @ 69.3g (2.44oz). slow sinking swimbait with ROF = 2 . great action in the water sooooo smooth when slow rolled or twitched. the only fish i catch on this lure will hang on walls. no 3lb for this one. this one was very fun and rewarding to create. --Chad Green
