  1. The ones that I have done, I use the flatter head area to Chuck. It helps drive the bait down which seems to allow shortening the lip. I'm finished with the ones that I have been working on. Now I'll start on this type. This type seems interesting to make. This is funny..... when I started (a year ago) carving baits I was only going to design a few and then stop. Keeping all the info and make these when I wanted one or two. Now designing has consumed a lot of my spare time. Wondering if I could do a design or a friend ask me to do one. At this one year point in time I have made 78 baits. This is not counting designing, testing, etc and making other types of baits. "A few" in a year's time has grown to a bakers dozen and growing. The info that I have, I put in spreadsheets thank goodness for computers unlike the old days. Dale ps, And holding down my day (24/7) job. Gezzz
  2. I don't ask that, I just get the weld tested. Ben knows what I mean. Dale
  3. To be honest I make all of mine so far. I was just curious in the eye size. With what I use in SS it would take a lot to distort the wire. Heck it takes a lot to bend them and twist.
  4. If the grade is the same and the wire size is the same then yes it's better as long as the ring does not impede the hook movement which creates issue in action of a bait. Lol, yes I test every completed bait for its original action (video). I always have even with plastic blanks. I know I'm crazy!
  5. I differently understand not posting. I see what your talking about. Thanks
  6. I have been thinking about your question Jonister and I did the same, I went to home depot and found brass and SS ones. I felt that these were to big. My question is if your not making a large bait I would like to see a picture of what your trying to make. I have never came across that type of bait before. Well at less I don't think I have. By now you may have found something.
  7. I've heard about the brake fluid cleaning with very fine sand paper, but I never tried. Looks pretty good. Nice job, May help someone.
  8. You got some great advice. As I said you will do fine. Looking good! So the first paint bait is the one that touch the plastic?
  9. X2 with Cadman. You are not going to get the same colors from batch to batch. The manufacturers try to keep the colors close. It could even be you, you may not be heating the piece up hotter then you did the last one. Or your oven is not heating evenly. Go with what you like and learn to mix/create other colors with the manufacture(s) colors, as others has stated already. IMO
  10. Good luck with both task that you are about ready to undertake......First one is that the baits they should do well. You on the other hand is the other that I'm worried about. I have learnt many years ago not to get Momma mad. As the old saying goes, "when Momma is not happy no one is happy". That includes Daddy. No bait tips but just a fact of life. or Dale
  11. The question that I have in using a valve is, will the valve freeze up in time? The mcu may build up in time and the time may not be a long one. I have thought about using a threaded valve and place a O ring or gasket on the valve to seal. But using the reinforcing the can as Ben does and a breathing hole. May give that a try soon. Dale
  12. That was good of them to do that. Still the shipping....whew. I'm just amazed. Dale
  13. No Woodie, just a prolific bait maker. Very nice pics of some Musky's by the way. A friend is heading that way in a few weeks to try to find some, and no he has some baits. Dale
  14. Will do Ben. I just found a little intel about Woodie. Yep that was differently my bad. Dale

    Screw Eyes

    Try LPO or jannsnet. Dale
  16. That product Bassrecord is pretty slick you got to admit. Nah, I'm with you, their are so many other ways to do it. Dale
  17. In the Musky bait that I have done, I did them in double V (X cut) and a single V. Larger baits to me are easier, more area to work with. Yes JR, I will try some out on smaller ones once I'm finish with these baits. I have got to be finished by this week. I'm glade to hear that the smaller ones are not so bad. Draw back to doing larger baits, more paint. LOL I'm glade to hear that you are getting happy with them! That's all that counts anyways. Dale
  18. That's crazy to ship at that price just outside of the US. Unless your shipment is huge! Is it just shipment or include taxes? Just curious, still a lot it seems. Wow, Dale
  19. JR that one seemed to do much better. Maybe it's the video showing it better. I bought some small hangers that would do this. I bought them from a supplier that I use because of paints, but most suppliers sells them. I'm interested in the eye and pin style. Keeping the drag down between the eye(s) and body seems that it could be a issue. Dale
  20. Gino, what's your opinion about DN at this point compared to what you had tested? Dale
  21. It wasn't the top of the line brush, it just didn't allow the tip to be put back in after time. It's good to know that I won't have to buy another brush for spraying clear coat, this was my concern. ps, Ben next time nudge me before I do that again. I didn't know Woodie was at that level. geeezzz Thanks, Dale
  22. You said JR that you were showing both, my bad. Assuming the 4" bait was the second one that to me swam better. So it appears to fall in the width and section size. I made a two segment bait that is made for Musky (8"). I have about 85-90% of the ballast in the head area. While during testing I found that the only ballast I needed in the tail segment was near the hinge area. The head is stable but has a slight movement back and forth as the tail sweeps around to follow. There are other very good attributes that came from this bait with the ballast locations. These baits were so successful that I'm now getting ready to make two and three hinge baits once I finish my obligations. So your link Travis will be very helpful with the designs. I would have never thought of segment as a search word. Thanks, Dale
  23. I'm not talking about replacement of parts Gino. I'm talking about wearing them out completely. This is no more then curiosity and to know the life span of a brush being cleaned like this. I was wondering if anyone has gone through a life span of a brush and would know this answer under these conditions. Dale
