How does water base paints do with this. I've heard about this product but would like to know more about how to use this. I would assume that it is similar to how most foils are installed. Thanks

Thanks, I know now your technique will not work for me the way you do it. However my idea will. I just didn't want to go the wrong way and there is a better one. Thanks and take care

Thanks Stretcher, Someone I know of, bought the whole set up and is showing how he modified the machine to do plastic blanks. I may have a way to make my own type of machine I just need two parts. Which I'll start looking for this week. If that doesn't pane out, I need another way that is fairly easyly do the heat fusion of the tape or fork out 250+/- for a machine. Once I get my paperwork back, I can take it off....but ingenuity works some for me or someone helps me out. I left a message for Kasil but he hasn't been on for awhile. Anyways thanks for the info, Dale
  4. Nice looking bait. A lot of detail around the gill plate area. Did you dremel the detail in?
  5. I wouldn't think the beads inside could go anywhere for quite awhile. The bead would have to work out of the epoxy to the diameter of the bead, at least close to begin failure. These chains come in different sizes too. Nothing says how many are used for anchoring into the piece except for the size of the lure itself. I believe it's worth trying and testing. As 21xdc stated it should have action if you can keep the joint clean. Just my
  6. DDL, that's it but how is it done? What is used to do it? Pic is great but I don't know if it is a plastic blank or....what.
  7. Lol, very nice idea! Thanks I was thinking about a holographic film that you can buy used for holding gifts, flowers, etc. It's semi transparent and I believe a silver paint or whatever under the film would look pretty good. Then paint over that with inks and transparents. I'm going to give it a try. I'll post if it turns out ok.

Thanks all, I will give your ideas some thought. I believe Gliders and Stretcher that I have seen that process or read something about it. Isn't it where you put a bait with the tape on it in a heated plate (2 sided) type machine? Bob I'll look into that company and the products. I will do some searching too.
  9. I have come to the conclusion, that I need to use tapes or be happy with the color that comes from what I have talked about, Spaz Stix (exspensive compared to others) and Rustoleum chromes. These gives a close color to the gizzard shade and crappie anyway. Other then going to an abstract scheme....it doesn't really matter to me. I like making natural bait schemes anyways. Getting really interested in holographic with inks and transparent paints tho.
  10. I have tried different types of paints to give the chrome look. The best I got was a shiny aluminum look after the clear coates. A load of people has tried but were not successful either. Polish became a contaminant to the paint adhesion. I'm going to keep at it and may come up with something. ????

Travis I didnt see you post at first. Once I left from posting I was notified of yours, glitch I guess. Yeah Travis I know. It's not no fast and easy way to make them look perfect or close. As in anything it takes work to make them right. Thanks Travis, Dale

Yeah I understand BobP that's what I'm trying to find. I'm finding it hard to get a tape to wrap around. I know I will have a seam on the back and belly. Right now I put a ridge along the side/back to blend the tape in. I may take a look at those shrink sleeves. I just didnt want to buy something that will not work. I see some baits with a fading back color. I can get close tho. I've tried the paints that sopposed to give chrome looks........not! It dulls with all kinds of clears. People on facebooks has tried all types of clear and I've tried others. It looks like a shiny aluminum, which isn't to bad. If I find something I'll post. Thanks BobP, Dale

I have been laying foil on the sides of plugs and hiding the edge. I have also tried leafing over plugs, really don't like the way they turn out sometimes. I have got interested in foil totally covering plugs. I'm just looking for silver and holographic foil. What is a good foil to use and where can I get it? Hopefully at a store that I can go and look at, like Michaels, etc. To wrap a plug seems a pretty hard task with the contour of a plug. Do you have any tips on doing this? I appreciate your replies. Thanks, Dale
  14. I am trying to learn how to wrap foil. What is the best foil to wrap plugs. You can do all kinds of things to put it on the sides but not to wrap. I really like inks over foil. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks, Dale
  15. I believe what was told to me about dipping, two dips equals about D2T. Spraying, dunno. I really got to make booth. I would really like to spray, it would make it easier. As far as jointed baits there a few things you can do. Rubber band around the hinge, BobP (I think) told me about a liquid frisket film. I couldn't find that around here, sooo..... I started thinking what could I use? I came up with White Out, used to cover up writing on paper. A little clean up will be needed. Dale
  16. Yep putting to much paint at one time creates all types of issues except when intentionally done. This forum has gave me so much so I'll give one back. I like showing depth in my lure schemes, sooo.....at times I'll put on more paint than normal and pull the scale material away after I get the paint dry to a certain point. Then I lightly pat the paint down to desired look. This shows texture and depth if painted a certain way of layers. Like golds, purples, etc under silvers, whites, etc. I know this is a tad bit off of topic but the thread got me thinking about stencils and wet paint. Just a tip

DDL, it depends on the cubic feet per minute (cfm) that the fan/tubine moves air. Some say 200+ cfm's are needed. Make sure it's a variable motor and is intringently safe. Just a safety note. As far as KBS I dip, I'm leery of spraying it as Woodie has stated. , that's one strong fan Woodie!

I was playing around with this. Shaped out of wood, fins from milk jug. Created paints, including Wicked.

Nathan turned me on to KBS. He mentioned sothing that I didnt for get. He wrote that two coates was equal to a coat of epoxy. I have brought that up from time to time in threads. I want to hear their opinions and most cases I hear what Nathan stated. I believe so also. Hey, smorgasbord for me...... AA! Yes, to all of the above except for any mixing. I want to put baits out quick when I'm working. As long as everyone is happy.......I'm happy.

I consider baits beyond 4" or so large. With this being said KBS is my choice smaller, although I haven't had no trouble with lures up to 8" (grab something if you feel faint from this)....with Rustoleum Crystal Clear. A little subtle finish, not like D2T, ETex, DN or KBS. It works for me and works well on other baits, excluding soft plastic.
  21. Ditto on that Vman. I just got to know for myself. Grrrr Landry, sometimes when you are almost there but frustration sinks in. Its best to get away and look at each issue one at a time. You know the design better than any of us and know what you tried and didn't. When you are truly relax with it, you'll find your answers.

Nice job Bob! Did you wrap the foil? I getting interested in the process.
  23. Does KBS have polymer in it? Don't know but the rest of the definition does describe KBS as an epoxy. Nathan turned me on to it. This clear is being used more and more in bait making. Dale
