  1. X2 RP, RP and you people please watch for thread about airbrushes. Dale
  2. Oops, your right Ray. My bad! Dale
  3. I believe that I have found something fast, safer to apply and lighter on the bait. I just need time for UV effects to happen or hopefully not. I need to prove the products before stating what they are by name. I will not say something works until I'm sure that I can with confidence. Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. Dale
  4. I have got to ask, but has the paint been frozen? Shipping this time of the year can have this to happen, depending where you live. Next has it been contaminated even in the airbrush? The next thought is, it could be a bad batch. I'm assuming that we are talking about a opaque. Or are we talking about, sealer, pearl etc. Take a bb shot, bearing, split shot etc. and put in your paint and shake the heck out of it, to mix it good. That could be the problem to. For right now that's all I got, hope this helps. Dale
  5. Oh my, I just realized you comment about engineering Dave. I'm going to have a little fun now, but how I fell. From the beginning of time the people who made things work did this from "trial and errors". The Engineers, took experiences passed along and put the knowledge into mathematics. I deal with Engineers every day, but in my industry they know nothing of how to "get it done". Example the Romans ruler. But alas, I respect them for the knowledge they have and helps me in stress effect and such things. As long they respect my knowledge. A topic for another category, but I couldn't help it. Dale
  6. I never took the test to the extreme that would have failures to any of the three. I guess I could have with the test equipment that I have at my disposal. But I did the test at home. They all did just fine, but knowing that a twist (barrel) would be more stronger, it's what I went with. But on very small baits that will not allow a bigger drill hole, it's good to know a straight hanger or tow eye will do the trick. Have a good one, Dale
  7. WOW, it's your prerogative to do as you wish and how you wish. It also doesn't hurt to throw out ideas. As far as for me "I'm not trying to build baits in production". As far as someone's else opinions and thoughts as long as they are offending I will respect it. I'm not closed minded either. I either agree or not. I think what helps me, I will value your opinion. Have a fantastic day, Dale
  8. I want to make the baits as fast as possible. To allow me to do others things. However being new to this, I want a good foundation. Taking time at my point of producing baits will allow me to make a good bait each time. I'm now at a point of doing just that. Being confident in the process you set allows this. I would build a house with a good foundation and work my way up with a good process. For me the house is build, but my eyes are still open to something new and maybe better. Being fast is really irrelevant when I like hand shaping my baits by hand. Let's call it faster. Take Care, Dale
  9. Not really AZ, the bubbles were noticeable during the sealing test, but during the clear coat there was none. No water intrusion to be found. Still some simple testing left, but time consuming. Just let them set and relax in the sun, then cooling. It appears to well worth the effort. Thanks, Dale
  10. Lol, it would be a problem. We use a venture pump to check weldes on tanks. It does not create a lot of vacuum if you control the pressure flow. Hmmm....I'll keep that in storage and give it a go once I figure away to adapt. Thanks for the info. Pete Dale
  11. You got it V-Man, the best I can remember. Some of my pics with me and a fish are up there in gbs so I had to bring them down to fit. It wasn't the fish size,.....oh no it maybe me. Indeed Gone2long, photobucket is another, couldn't remember the name. I believe you will get there now. Have a great day people! Dale
  12. Yep as Ben stated, but your pic's could be to large in gb's. There are place on the internet that can bring down to the size needed. One of these places is "tinypics". Take your time and you will figure it out. You will have to view some ads. Then answer a question by putting in their password. It's not hard. Hope this helps, Dale
  13. Thanks for the advise, but I only sell here there in wire baits. But I'm no where near selling cranks, I just don't have the time nor am I good enough yet. I'm like Travis, I like working with the wood baits. Just pouring them is not as appealing to me. PVC, maybe in time but not yet. It's just that I have to stop making cranks until I get the others completed, couple of months I guess. I'm gonna start on them next weekend. So I wanted to prove the clear coat good or not by then. No I'm not looking to sell cranks, well not no time soon. Dale
  14. Lol, I love that knowledge of the name "rattletrap". I'm getting preliminary feedback already. I guess because of the warm weather that is happening this year. The rain is keeping some of the folks off the water tho. Enough time tho to start making comments about my baits by them. They say that they are catching fish (yet small), which is happening with any of the baits that they use. Understand these are people that keep in contact by whatever means or just coming by and talking. Most are young men that grow up around me; coaching them, friends with the children etc. They also know each other. They will fish any time they can, which is what I need and they know this. They are requesting different paint schemes and depth. Now they are saying, I'll help with the cost and time involved". The information that I gave to them is close, about each bait in general; depth, action. As I stated,"do this with people that you can trust", friends. Word of mouth is starting to happen. It can work. One problem could be happening, I started this for my use. This may become a mistake. But I'm getting info much faster then I could have gathered it. Cheers, Dale
  15. Merry Christmas group. Dale
  16. Nah, this is just curiosity about a product. So while there I just said, what the heck about a few minutes setting it up and learning something from it. While at the same time making baits. Very soon I will have to get back to making wire baits with a time limit that I do sell. So finding these answers are important to me with the time I have, if nothing else the test will tell me that I'm going or not going in the right direction. I may have to go back to D2T, DN' s or a MCU. But I won't know until I try. I'm just passing on the info as I find it. May help someone, who knows. But if I find something cheaper and faster, but yet just as good.......it's an epiphany. Dale
  17. The first test is now finished. I accidentally left it longer then I believe necessary (24 hrs.). I had a intrusion of 25% with that sealer. Now tomorrow I will start the final test, with the sealer, paint and the clear coat on another sample. That will tell the story. Dale
  18. This group has move me forward in knowledge that kept me from making errors after errors. Now again they communicate with me to confirm my thoughts or send me in the right direction. Packman I'm sure you have a lot knowledge to give others. As Fish Pirate stated I wish all of you in having a great holiday, no matter your beliefs. See all of you on the flip side in 2016. That's when we can debate our opinions some more. Dale
  19. I have a tool box with seperate compartments, to be honest I need another. This organizes everything nicely for me. Keeping them dry as state above is important and also dust free. As stated sealed plastic bags will do this. I add a little super glue or 2T to the back of them to help with the stick and a extra seal when installing. I know that the clear coat will hold them, but it's just a extra protection if the factory adhesive is just not right. Take Care, Dale
  20. I agree with BobP, it's to your taste. To me a bone color, is a soft white or a egg shell in some cases. I like this color for belly painting, example for a frog and tadpole schemes. This for me is a simple mix, pearl white with a touch of opaque black to taste. The black will take the white to a "flat" or a matte shade with leaving some of the pearl look. It also seems to leave a look of texture. Createx is the brand, but I'm sure any brand with these colors can create this look. Take Care, Dale
  21. Truly interesting ideas and test! All of your suggestions have got me thinking and I'm going to try something. I don't know if it will work so I'll keep it to myself for now. What I'm getting from your suggestions on the sealer that penetration into the wood is the best, which then creates a barrier. I have worked with wood for years as a hobby and some profit, but furniture does not get put into water. But the sealing I get. I really messed up on a new design, which left four blanks (didn't swim). They will be my "ginnypigs". I have a few days off, so I will start this today and maybe do some painting. Later, Dale
  22. No it's not Sniper. Find people who will honestly throw them. People who knows how a bait should run, colors for different types of water clarity, how to tune a bait without throwing to the side, etc. These people will let you know if nothing else is to change design (weight,etc.). You will make that decision, but you must listen carefully. In the long run these people is your advertisement. Especially if they are known for fishing in your area. Keep the give away to people you trust. These people will pass the word if you make a good product. However it can take some time. Everything up to selling I'm doing, the selling is just from other experiences. The quality of your product is the key and staying with it. Also having fun while doing it. Take Care, Dale
  23. Travis I had a moment to think about what I had posted this morning and thought that it would be a waste to ruin a bait body. I feel you are right about the time a bait is truly in the water and the first protection is the primary one. However I also agree with Musky Glenn. The reason for this is that the paint with the top coat. I'm thinking about sealing the way I normally do and soak a piece of wood with hangers for a reasonable time. What the amount of time is I'm not sure yet. That will tell me about my wooden blank. Then drill some holes in another piece of wood and paint it only near these hangers. After that, clear coat it as normal and dunk that piece. All weighing will be done before and after. I have a moisture meter also, but I haven't never truly trusted it. Using both should make me happy. I'll have it finished by the end of the weekend. I believe this is my last concern about creating baits in general. Now I can learn about designs and how to weight them properly. There are just things like this that I'm not confident about. Thanks for all of your input, Dale
  24. I'm not looking to sell at this time. My giving baits to others is to multiple my knowledge, to how well I'm doing with the design and if the person is happy more the better. That's why I gave some to friends who knows about fishing. I have been asked to make some for a auction for a charity. I'm not keen about that yet. I'm not confident yet about my work. So I agree with Travis, I bought from a guy who always made me good baits. He has a good reputation and he just paints or makes baits now. The word will spread with time and good work. Dale
